Corinth Coca-Cola expands territory BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Corinth Coca-Cola Bottling Works has expanded its territory in West Tennessee with the addition of the Jackson and Paris markets.
The expanded territory rights, first announced in April 2013, were enabled when Corinth obtained distribution rights and related assets from Coca-Cola Refreshments USA, Inc., who first received the rights from
Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated. “By expanding our sales and distribution capability in West Tennessee, we are positioning our company to continue to be successful for another hundred
years,” said H.L. “Sandy” Williams, chairman of the Corinth bottling works. “This expansion also aligns our company with The Coca-Cola Company and Please see COCA-COLA | 2A

Civitan Club putting steaks on the grill to help children BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
The Civitan Club isn’t looking as number 13 as unlucky. The civic organization is expecting its 13th Annual Civitan Steak Sale to be another successful effort in helping children in the area. The club fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday under the porch area
of Gardner’s Supermarket for a second consecutive year. The meal consists of an 8-ounce ribeye, baked beans, cole slaw and Texas Toast. Tickets for the annual club fundraiser are $12 and can be purchased at Gardner’s or Roger’s Supermarket or at the event. “We didn’t like going up on the price, but beef is at an all-
time high,” said steak sale chairman Tim Wood of the slight increase from $10. “It’s still a great deal and would make a perfect Mother’s Day gift.” Last year was a record event for the local club. Over 600 steaks were sold during the event at Gardner’s. The previous high was 475. Please see CIVITANS | 2A
District with the help of the outstanding senior class,” said Childress. “This group has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships. We look forward to their future success and are proud to have them representing the Corinth School District and hope their life lessons and academic knowledge from CSD will help them develop into successful leaders.” The slate of graduations could be tricky for those who Please see GRADUATION | 2A
Mail carriers ready to stamp out hunger BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
The mailman is asking for a little something extra on Saturday. Corinth mail carriers are again participating in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, a project of the National Association of Letter Carriers, which has generated thousands of pounds of food donations for the AMEN Food Pantry. It is something the food ministry has come to depend on to boost its supply. “We have been very pleased with the way the community has responded to it in past
years,” said AMEN volunteer John Cooper. Please see DRIVE | 2A
Renowned baritone will be part of artist series BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com
Stirring hearts and uplifting spirits through music, the Corinth Music Club will present the third event in their Visiting Artist Series on Thursday, May 7. Slated for 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, the highly anticipated concert will feature performances by world-renowned baritone James Martin, accompanied by Corinth’s own Ben Tomlinson. “The series sprang from an idea we had after a program
concerning Corinth artists like Henry Dalton and Beth Nichols Middleton, who over the years gained fame and success through their musical gifts,” said Cathy Alexander, chair of the Visiting Artist Series and National Music Week Committees. “Middleton, who grew up in Corinth, was our guest artist in the fall of 2012. CREATE was generous in giving us a grant to bring her here. We were able to generate funds to carry on the program.” Last year’s guest performer was Corinth native Jane Redding, a soprano and interna-
tional operatic star performer, who graduated from Corinth High School in 1986. “This year, we wanted to do something with Ben who will be leaving Corinth shortly to enter Veterinarian School at Mississippi State University,” said Alexander. “Over the years, he has participated in the yearly Piano Festival, sponsored locally by our club and nationally by the Federation of Music Clubs. As a student, he was eligible for scholarships to summer camps funded by our Club. In short, he has a long history with our club and with Corinth.”
“Ben agreed to do our program this year and we gave him the go ahead to plan any program he wanted to,” she added. “He told us about James and said he really would like to get him to Corinth and here we are.” Held in celebration of National Music Week (Sunday, May 3-Friday, May 10), the exciting event is available to the public for a suggested $10 minimum donation. Tickets may be purchased at Ginger’s, the Corinth Area ConPlease see SERIES | 2A
