Locals schedule prayer program BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” – Psalm 34:17 The 65th Annual National Day of Prayer is taking a patriotic approach on Thursday at the Alcorn County Courthouse. “Our focus this year will be the presidential election,” said Bobby Capps with Crosswind Ministry. “We will take the national prayers from the Bible of how people like David and Daniel prayed for their nation and pray those prayers.”
The annual event held in downtown Corinth is set for 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Please see PRAYER | 6A

When Freddie Burns died last week at the age of 102, he took several books worth of history with him. A Pickin’ on the Square favorite during his time in Corinth, Burns — known to many as “Freddie Boy” — died Thursday at an assisted living facility in Selmer, Tenn. Funeral services for the Booneville native are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Forrest Hill East Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn. A talented musician who loved to share stories about the past, Burns remained sharp until his last days, according to his niece, Virginia Shipman, of Biggersville. He became a popular performer of what he affection-

Billy Harbin loves to climb trees. He is the sole owner and operator of Pickwick Tree Service. He gained experience in the tree care business, working for a decade for Asplundh Tree Company from 1972-82. After working for Kimberly-Clark in Corinth for five years, he began his own tree business in 1987, returning to his roots, so to speak. Harbin’s brother is Randall Harbin, owner of Harbin Heating and Air. Now 61, Billy Harbin has been married for six years to his wife, Verna, who also helps out with the family business. They are active members of First Baptist Church in Counce. When not taking care of trees, Harbin enjoys going for a ride in his pontoon boat on Pickwick Lake.
