The field is set. A little after 9 a.m. today a new Corinth Coca-Classic 10K winner will cross the finish line. In a matter of hours after the first runner finishes, the popular 6.2-mile running event will close its 33rd year on a successful note. “We try to be on the cutting edge and always have,” said race founder Kenneth Williams. “The race has a lot of firsts because we look at what is popular with runners … we have been blessed to hit on the right elements which runners seem to appreciate.” Corinth’s major running event was full as of Tuesday, according to organizers. For a second straight year, 1,500 runners/walkers registered for the 8:30 a.m. start today in downtown. “It should be wide open as far as a male and female cham-

Running is important to Janet Thompson and Woody Harrell. So is the Corinth Coca-Classic 10K. The two local running enthusiasts will be among a trio honored today following the race. Thompson, Harrell and Memphis runner Vic Thayer will be recognized as Gold Standard Bearers. “The 10K is such a community event,” said Thompson, a teacher at Corinth Middle School. “Everyone in town turns out on race day and on that one day everyone is on the same page.” Thompson, a New Albany native, became hooked on the sport.

“Her enthusiasm grew and soon she was involving her friends and emerging into a leader,” said 10K race co-coordinator Mona Lisa Grady. The CMS teacher taught a “Run for God” class at her church. She also helped start the “Boston Strong” run in town following the 2013 tragedy at the Boston Marathon. “The event was done only a week after the tragedy and was one of the first events of its kind in the U.S.,” said Grady. Thompson’s organization raised over $2,000 for Boston Strong with 200-300 people taking part. A member of Team Corinth, a local running club, Thompson
