Police charged a Corinth man with manslaughter on Friday in connection with the Tuesday night shooting death of Deondre Simmons. Corinth Police Department Capt. Dell Green said Darius Gaines, 21, of Bunch Street, was charged with the offense. Bond was set at $100,000. He is accused of shooting 19-year-old

A high school student has been charged a day after bringing a weapon to school. Zerek Hurd, 18, of Washington Street, was charged by the Corinth Police Department with felony possession of a weapon by a student and carrying a concealed weapon. The concealed weapon charge is a misdemeanor. Hurd, a senior at Corinth

A spring storm system brought small hail, flash flooding and power outages to the Corinth area Friday afternoon. A half-hour power outage hit parts of the city about 2:25 p.m., resulting in traffic signals being out at the crossings on U.S. Highway 72 and leading to traffic backing up. While heavy rain prompted a flash flood warning, it was only the usual trouble spots, such as the Cass Street underpass, that required street barricades. “The only reports we’ve received are underpasses flood-
