Order will allow specialty beer stores BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
The Corinth Board of Aldermen on Tuesday adopted an ordinance amendment that will allow specialty craft beer stores to operate in the city. It came about as a result of a
request from Brandy and Jeff Phillips, who want to open such a store next to their Wine Barn business on U.S. Highway 72 West. It was not possible to operate such a store under the existing wording of the ordinance. The amendment excludes a
business licensed to sell specialty craft beer from the requirement to have at least 65 percent of floor space occupied by foodrelated products or drug storerelated products and at least 50 percent of the gross sales from products other than beer or
light wine. The amendment defines a specialty craft beer as one made by a brewer who is “small, independent and traditional.” It further gives quantifiable definitions of “small,” “independent” and “traditional.”
The Wine Barn owners were previously planning a restaurant next to the business. In other items before the board: ■ The city is requesting cleanPlease see ALDERMEN | 2

Event honors fallen soldier BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
Five years after Staff Sergeant Seth Ricketts was killed in Afghanistan, his father Bill Ricketts continues to fight for his son’s memory. A few months after his son’s death in 2010, Ricketts began planning for an event that would forever honor his son, while also raising money for fallen soldiers and their families. “Seth died doing what he loved doing, protecting his family and his country,” said Bill Rickets. “I’m going to keep working for his memory and helping those men and women who believe in the same thing he did.”
