Two Corinth agencies are warning the public of scams perpetrated by individuals claiming to represent them. The Corinth Police Department received calls Wednesday

for donating money to the department. The city actually purchased new body armor for the entire force in 2015. “We are not asking people to donate money for a bulletproof vest or anything else, for that

matter,” said Police Chief Ralph Dance. The police department would not do a phone solicitation to raise funds, he said. Meanwhile, the Corinth Gas Please see SCAMS | 2

Locals looking to start a career in law enforcement have a great opportunity. Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell said he’s looking for a few good men and women to work as correctional officers at the county jail and regional correctional facility. “We need people who are looking to start a career,” he said. “Whether the person moves up through the ranking as correctional officer or is looking to get a head start on another law enforcementrelated career, a correctional officer is a great place to start.” Now hiring two to three full timers and several part timers, Warden Josh Davis said the job includes overseeing inmates on a daily basis and supervising and escorting prisoners between different parts of the facility. “It’s not a hard job, since there’s really no manual labor,” Davis said. “It can be stressful at times, but rewarding as well. Being a correctional officer is important and the right person can make a difference.” Positions starts at $9 per hour with a .50 cent increase after a six-month probational

Alcorn Central seniors ‘Save the Best for Last’ BY L.A. STORY lastory@dailycorinthian.com

Senior Sounds is a tradition at Alcorn Central High School and a senior rite of passage and the 2017 edition will be presented this week. ACHS seniors will present “Save the Best for Last” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. nightly at the Coliseum Civic Center, located at 404 Taylor Street, in Corinth. The show’s director is ACHS teacher, and longtime associate of the production, Twila Bridges. She expressed enthusiasm for this year’s show, which will feature several selections of music from the 1990s presented by a cast of 39 students. “Save the Best for Last” was the theme of the show, as voted on by

the senior class, explained the director. “The senior class voted on this name because they were the last class born in the decade of the 1990s. Several of them requested we do a show about the decade of the 90s and that is what we are doing,” said Bridges. “I actually surveyed the kids about their ideas and we try to work in as many of them as we can each year, adding things that are important to them along the way. In addition, we always try to highlight their talents and skills ... even as simple as juggling or gymnastics.” She said one of the seniors suggested they use the theme of “The
