Bicyclist hurt in crash with carrier BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

A Corinth man remains hospitalized after being hit while riding his bicycle early Saturday morning. Herchial Jones, 66, of 103 Oakland School Road, was airlifted from the scene to North Mississippi Medical Center in

Tupelo after being hit around 6:30 a.m. by a newspaper carrier delivering the Daily Journal. According to Debra Pugh with North Mississippi Medical Center, Jones is in fair condition as of Saturday afternoon. Jones was traveling northbound on the bicycle when he was hit by a southbound Honda

Accord driven by Ronnie Harris. The wreck took place at the intersection of Oakland School Road and County Road 216, less than a mile from Jones’ house. Corinth Police got the call at 6:41 a.m. after it was originally dispatched to the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department.

“It looks like it was a matter of the sun being in the driver’s eyes, causing him to not see the bike, said Corinth Police Department officer Lane Fowler. An accident reconstructionist was on the scene following the wreck to determine the cause. According to the driver, Jones attempted to get up and

leave with his bicycle until first responders arrived. “He almost broke out the windshield, said Fowler of the impact. “But if he would have had a helmet on, he might have been all right. The accident is being investigated by the Corinth Police Department.

Developers transform city’s ‘SoCo’ district BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

Less than two years ago, the downtown Corinth warehouse area of Wick and Franklin Streets were a wasteland of crumbling brick walls, shattered windows, peeling paint and fading memories. Those same streets are now seeing a renaissance of renovations. Please see ‘SOCO’ | 2A
