“It appears the victim may have been robbed. We know there was stuff missing from the home, but we are still talking to family members and collecting more information.”
The victim of a Monday afternoon homicide in North Corinth has been identified. Shomarick Payne, a 24-yearold black male, was found dead with single gun shot wound to the head, said Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance. A friend arrived at the home to check on the man and the front door was open, said Dance. Po-

A piece of Corinth history may be one step closer to becoming a downtown attraction. During the regular meeting of the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, board members heard a presentation from Crossroads Museum Director Brandy Steen and museum board member Lee Thurner regarding a request for funds for the project which would provide housing to display the 1924 American LaFrance pumper fire truck on loan to the museum. The City of Corinth loaned the truck to the museum

Sixteen-year-old Brady Spencer wants to be a corporate attorney when he grows up. It’s his interest in law, business and politics that has helped him succeed in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). “I got started in seventh grade and I’ve always had teachers who have pushed me toward FBLA,” said Spencer, who was recently elected as the state president for the FBLA Mississippi Chapter. “It’s a tremendous organization I feel fortunate to be a part of. I always recommend other high school students to get involved in a student organization ... even if it’s not FBLA, it’s always a very rewarding experience.” The Kossuth High School sophomore also serves as the KHS chapter president. Spencer is the son of Roger and Mandy Spencer.

The first level will be an enclosed, temperature-controlled display area to protect the fire engine from future deterioration. The second level would be used as a viewing platform for visitors to watch or photograph passing trains. The most recent plans have been altered to make the structure handicap accessible, which would include a lift.

The delinquent lunch charge policy is paying off. Alcorn School District Superintendent Larry B. Mitchell said the new policy enacted by the board in February has helped the district recover debt. The policy was written after USDA said all schools must have such a policy in place. “It has helped us tremendously to get our numbers down,” said Mitchell. “We are in much better shape now compared to a few months ago.” The districts delinquent lunch charge account was “well over $1,000,” according to Mitchell. Now the account is down to around $400. The policy is a threestep process that begins when a student’s debt reaches $10. The process includes several attempts to collect the charge from the parents includ-
