Board OKs more land for battle group BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Preservationists are getting more land for interpretation of the Battle of Corinth. The Corinth School District Board of Trustees on Monday approved the conveyance of the

playground area and another lot to the east at the old West Corinth Elementary School property to the Friends of the Siege and Battle of Corinth Commission for $10. The three parcels were purchased by the school district

from the Corinth Urban Renewal Agency in 1980. The preservation group already purchased the parcel containing the school building from the City of Corinth. It is expected the area will be developed mainly as green

space with markers and signage describing the approach to Battery Robinett. The school district can dispose of property in this fashion for cultural or educational purposes. There will be a reverter clause that would put the prop-

erty back in the school district’s hands if it ceases to be used for the specified purpose. Other business of the meeting, which was the first for newly appointed trustee Dennis Please see LAND | 2A

Oasis Medical Center celebrates the beauty of life during the annual Walk for Life, scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at Crossroads Regional Park in Corinth. The Center’s spring fundraiser, now in its 21st year, invites walkers and runners of all ages and athletic ability to take part. As singles, couples, families, teams of youth, churches, and coworkers tread the two-mile course, they are coming alongside the Center as it provides information, support, and help for local individuals and families. The non-profit pregnancy center has historically been known for

providing pregnancy testing, ultrasound, and information for women who may be pregnant. This summer, the center plans an outreach to men through evening classes that emphasize “Practical Fatherhood.” The class is suitable for fathers of non-adult children as well as men who are expectant fathers. The series will take place at the OMC office at 2421 Proper Street. Greg Williams, OMC board member, will be teaching the fatherhood class. “This year we were convicted of the need to expand our concern that fathers step up and become active in the lives of those children,” said Williams. The new ministry to men is an af-

firmative expansion for the center. Williams explained, “I am excited about leading this study on practical fatherhood and humbled by the opportunity to possibly make a difference in these young dads’ lives.” For those for wish to take part in the walk, check-in time is 8:30 a.m. and starting time is 9:00 a.m. The pledge process is simple: walkers ask supporters to sponsor them with a one-time tax-deductible donation. Pledges do not have to be collected by walkers; OMC will collect pledges by mail. Walkers may walk on their own or on another day if April 18 is not convenient.
