Historic road report back at Shiloh park BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
A piece of Shiloh National Military Park history is back home. The detailed bound file completed in 1947 by the United States Department of the Interior National Park Service was returned to Shiloh recently. The file done on ShilohCorinth Road (Tennessee Route 22âMississippi Route 2) had been in possession of the Mississippi Department
of Transportation (MDOT) since 1947. MDOT Tupelo Branch Director Mitch Caver came across the file and contacted the park. âIn the 1920s, road control of Highway 22 and 2 was transferred to the National Park Service before being transferred back to the two individual states (Mississippi and Tennessee) in 1947,â said Caver. âI thought someone might be interested in having the report back.â

Todayâs libraries offer more than just endless rows of books. âItâs not your grandmotherâs library,â said Corinth Librarian Brandon Lowrey, who is inviting the community to get involved in several activities lined up for National Library Week, including an open house and an effort to relaunch a book club. âItâs a time to celebrate the contributions of our nationâs libraries and to promote library use and support,â said Lowrey. âWe encourage the citizens of Corinth and Alcorn County to utilize all of the library services. We have computer usage, DVDs and VHS. We have art displays, exhibits and poetry readings. We have a weekly preschool story hour, copy services Please see LIBRARY | 2A

Fittingly, the two men are both civilian/soldiers, not West Pointers, and better represent the volunteer armies of both sides.
