State allows day care to reopen BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
Circle Y Child Care and Learning Center is back open, 14 days after being shutdown for sexual and physical abuse allegations. The day care located on Wheeler Grove Road south of Corinth was allowed to reopen late last week, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health. “We closed the facility for 14 days, and after that period it was entitled to a hearing. But the department did not find enough evidence to hold
a hearing,” said Mississippi State Department of Health Communications Director Liz Sharlot. “The facility reopened on March 31 with (one) restriction.” Sharlot said because the day care is housed in the same building as the Genesis Christian Academy private school, operators must keep children enrolled in the day care on “that side of the facility.” “The local sheriffs department still has an open investigation,” added Sharlot. With the city board’s approval now in hand, the Downtown Motel can check out of the short-term accommodations business. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Tuesday approved a variance for Reid Bostick and Gary Mitchell to convert the Polk Street business from a motel to 10 two-room apart-
ment units. Approval was recommended by the board of adjustment last week, and no opposition was voiced before either board. Bostick fielded a few more questions about the aesthetics and floor plan before the city board. With some upgrades, he believes the building can fill a need for professionals Please see MOTEL | 5

The Mississippi Monument was dedicated in October of 2015. “Since the SCV and UDC did not get the recognition we should have during the dedication, we are having the event to do what we did not get to do then,” added Ellis.
