Witt retiring as CRP chief BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Crossroads Regional Park’s longtime director is retiring. Todd Witt remains on the job with the parks and recreation department until a final date is determined. He does not expect his official exit to be before May 15. “Todd has done an excellent job,” said Butch Carmichiel, chairman of the Corinth-Alcorn County Parks and Recreation Commission. “He has taken the park to another level.” Carmichiel met with the Board of Mayor and Aldermen behind closed doors Tuesday evening to notify them that the park commission has Witt’s resignation in hand. The park board handles the hiring of the director and will begin advertising the position in Sunday’s newspaper. Resumes are due by May 1. Witt has served as director of parks and recreation since

Downtown Corinth homeowner Stuart Green watches his workers tear apart his home on Taylor Street. Several thousand bees had made his attic, wall and floor their home.

The honey bee normally nests inside a hollow tree, but occasionally they’ll use a wall or attic space inside a house as a nesting site. The insect can find their way into a home through the smallest crack. A bee only needs an eighth of an inch hole to get inside.

Downtown Corinth homeowners Stuart and Nan Green have first hand knowledge of the honey bee. The couple and their three children have been living with bees in their attic for more than 10 years. “We first started noticing bees swarming around outside,” said Stuart. “We have hundreds of bees, maybe even thousands

The home at 1012 Taylor Street began its second century with a fresh renovation. Owner Chad Dickerson admits some might consider the intersection of different styles within a bit quirky. “I like a mix of antiques and contemporary,” he said. “I’ve got a mix of original art and vintage art. I’ve got mid-century modern pieces mixed in with antiques, and it works for me. It’s probably not ideal for everybody, but I like it.” Black, white and red are the dominant colors throughout the house. “I didn’t set out and say I’m going to have a blackand-white house, but it kind of happened that way. And it works.” Built in 1908, the home formerly had a wrap-

The Corinth Air-Evac Lifeteam along with Magnolia Regional Health Center EMS employees, friends and co-workers of the late Thomas Timms will host the first Tom Timms Memorial Golf Tournament, celebrating National EMS Week. It is planned to be an annual event. “We wanted to get people together during EMS week to honor Tom and the EMS community that he loved so much,” said Flight Nurse RN Ricki Barnett. “Our goal is to raise money to give back to the things he loved, Timms EMS and our community.” The four-person scramble will be held May 23 at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course with shot gun starting at 9 a.m. The deadline to register for the event is May 16 Please see TOURNEY | 2

It’s not something I take lightly or leave lightly.” He will continue residing in Corinth. “I’ll always be a supporter and help out any way I can,” said Witt, who grew up in Belmont. “It’s been a pleasure being a parks and recreation director for all these years and

His father took the lead on the renovation, which was no small job. “We replaced 18 floor joists beneath the house, all the electrical and all the plumbing,” said Dickerson. “Pretty much anything that had tile or linoleum on it was rotten

Of the home’s three fireplaces, he chose to keep the ones in the living room and master bedroom and covered the one in the guest bedroom.
