A long day of filming on Monday for the makers of “Blood Country” took them from sleepy Jacinto to a cabin in Tippah County. Back in Jacinto on Tuesday, the crew was again inside the courtroom late in the morning, working on a jail conference scene. Park friends group to hide 3,000 eggs TISHOMINGO — Children up to age 12 are encouraged to hop, hop, hop on down the bunny trail to Tishomingo State Park to hunt up over 3,000 eggs set to be hidden. The first Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Friends of Tishomingo State Park will be held Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. “sharp” at Tishomingo State Park, 105 County Road 90, in Tishomingo. Senior adults can now make their reservation to get information ... and lunch. After several years of success, the Senior Connector Spring Fling will be back again Wednesday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Mississippi State University Extension Center. “What we’re doing is getting senior citizens as much info as we can as to what services are available to them. They can also get advice or get information on what might be free or low cost for them,” said Tom Chartres, Community Development Council. Along with information and handouts, Chartres said there will be free blood pressure checks, glucose checks and free eye sight exams are offered to each senior. “Last year we had 100 glucose checks done,” said Chartres. There will also be lunch provided and sponsored by the Community Development Council at no cost to seniors adults. Lunch choices are either a barbecue or smoked chicken plate. In order to attend, seniors will need to call The Alliance and make a reservation. The deadline for reservations is April 12. Once registered, the attendees will receive a postcard which will serve as the entrance ticket, lunch meal ticket

People of the Crossroads Elvira Irons, Corinth “Retirement can be boring and I don’t like that,” said Elvira Irons. A Corinth native, Irons has worked in many capacities. She worked at Refreshments, Inc., and at area restaurants for many years. Her most recent position, before retirement, was as a Title 5 worker for Northeast Community Services with Belinda Keith. She keeps her daily routine interesting when she has engaging people to speak with. Her hobbies include good conversation — on the phone or in person, Facebook and reading. She mentioned that, whenever the opportunity presents itself, she loves to travel and do things. She has two sons, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In her local retirement community, she can be seen visiting with people, cooking and looking after the needs of others. “I like to stay busy,” she said with a big smile.
