A local child care facility has been shut down by the state, alleging sexual and physical abuse to at least six children while they were in care of the facility. A letter posted on the door at the Circle Y Child Care and Learning Center from the Mississippi Department of Health provides notice of the suspension of the license of the facility and the ongoing investigation that at least six children may have suffered sexual and physical abuse at the facility or on the premises near the facility. An emergency suspension of license was issued on Wednesday. “The continued operation of said facility has been determined to constitute a substantial hazard to the health and safety of the children entrusted to and cared for by such facil-

Three new buses are set to hit the street for the Alcorn School District. A trio of International 77-passenger buses were delivered Tuesday. “This is a pretty big deal for us and we are pleased to be able to do it,” said district superintendent of education Larry B. Mitchell. “This has been long overdue.” The district purchased a 2015 and two 2016 International buses from Summit Truck Group of Tupelo. Alcorn Central, Biggersville and Kossuth will each get one of the buses, which will be put in service early next week. “We are beginning to replace a lot of our older buses,” said shop foreman Robert Stacy. “Our oldest route buses were bought in 1992.” Cost of the buses were $79,000 for the 2015 model and $81,925 each for the 2016

Some 20 youngsters took advantage of the school break to “Spring into 4-H” on Monday. Students – ages 8-18 – got an in-depth look at 4-H through four workshops and fun activities at the Mississippi State Extension Service. “Our goal is to promote 4-H,” said agent Tammy Parker. “The 4-H members did a great job this year of inviting their friends.” Patrick Poindexter, County Director with the Mississippi State Extension Service, kicked off the event with an

One may not know his name, but may recognize his face. He is a killer. Bugs, that is. This man can be seen in many homes, businesses and industries as a technician for Gold Bold Pest Control. His name is Chris Green and he loves his job. “I can be my own boss. I’m always working and meeting a lot of new people,” said the bug zapper about the job he has held the past 20 years. “I enjoy helping people solve their problems.” He covers a wide area for Gold Bond, including Alcorn, Prentiss, Tishomingo and Itawamba counties. When not working, Green likes any kind of outdoor activity, including fishing, gardening and yard work. The 45-yearold loves fishing for bass. He has a wife of 21 years, Amy, and they have one daughter.

The focus is clear for the Corinth Breakfast Lions Club. The group’s mission to provide eyeglasses for those in need will see a new fundraiser for the next two weekends. “I had brought up that Easter is an untapped holiday,” said Treasurer John Peebles. “We get ready for months on end for Christmas, but Easter to me has always been more important, and we don’t get ready for it like we do for Christmas.” Thus came the idea to borrow the Salvation Army’s bellringing and kettles campaign associated with Christmas. Wearing yellow vests, club members will be stationed at the entrances of six different stores. The first event will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. to
