Irwin had not had the opportunity to interview one of the candidates, and was not ready to vote on the issue. Going forward, he wants po-

School district goes wireless BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

The Alcorn School District is going wireless. Board members accepted the more than $262,000 bid from InCare to install wireless Internet at all 11 district campuses pending E-Rate funding approval. “Although InCare did not submit the lowest bid, they are the only company who guarantees speed,” said Network Administrator Rose Seaborn. “The wireless will be capable of delivering high speed Internet connections for up to

30 devices per classroom.” InCare will provide the district a turnkey operation with Ruckus R700 with WAVE2 Guarantee Extreme Switches. “It’s no secret we are behind technology wise in the Alcorn School District,” said board member Russ Nash. “Wireless is the next step for us. We need to do this.” The district also received wireless Internet bids from C Spire, Synergetics and Venture Technologies. Seaborn said she hopes the wireless will be operational before the 2015-16 school year kicks off in August.

Charity Ball menu to have ’20s flavor BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com

Guests at the 53rd Annual Charity Ball will dine on scrumptious appetizers and decadent desserts as they socialize at the 1920’s-style shindig. “The menu is going to be super classic and consist of heavy Waldorf Astoria-type hors d’ oeuvres,” said Charity Ball Refreshment Chairwoman Susan Bailey. “Due to the popularity of our charcuterie table, we are bringing it back again this year.” Featuring soppressata, mortadella, salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, drunken goat cheese, cheddar, parmesan and blue cheese, pickled grapes and snow peas, olives, peppadews and pepperoncinis, and breadsticks and crackers, the charcuterie table is shap-

ing up to be quite the spread. Grandiose appetizers will include prime rib sliders with horseradish aioli, shrimp cocktails, spinach dip with chips, Waldorf chicken salad mini croissants, meatball on a skewer and smoked salmon crudité with a caviar garnish. “Dessert will be black and white,” said Bailey. “In addition to chocolate-dipped strawberries, mini cupcakes and brownies and champagne jello shots, SoCo Bakery will be preparing black and white cookies.” A cash bar with a selection of five different beers, wine, champagne and giggle water will be available at $5 per ticket.
