Man faces aggravated DUI charges BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
An Iuka man has been charged with two counts of Aggravated DUI. Zachary Crum, 28, was charged Monday morning and remains jailed in the Alcorn County Jail awaiting arraign-
ment. Crum was charged by the Mississippi High Patrol after he apparently rear-ended a vehicle around 4 a.m. near Strickland Bridge on U.S. Highway 72 East Saturday, March 6. Crum was traveling west bound in a 2003 GMC Sierra
when he hit a 2006 Mazda Tribute driven by Eva Austin, 72, of Rienzi. The crash caused the Mazda Tribute to leave the road before overturning several times, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Ray Hall. Austin and passenger, Al-
ice Thrasher, 74 of Corinth had to both be extricated from the vehicle. The two women were initially transported to Magnolia Regional Health Center and later transferred with life threatening injuries to North Mississippi Medical Center.
Austin and Thrasher were both listed in good condition on Monday afternoon. Troopers collected physical evidence at the crash scene which indicated Crum, who was not injured in the wreck, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Ensuring residents know who to contact in case of an emergency, the Alcorn County Republican Party will hold a special informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 at the Corinth Public Library. “When disaster strikes, we want people to know exactly who to contact for help,” said Mike Stewart, chairman of the Republican Party. “While it is understandably easy to panic under stressful situations, we are less likely to do so if we have a game-plan in place beforehand.” Open to everyone regardless of political affiliation or creed, the meeting will spotlight lo-

Rose and her husband, Bill, have two sons -- Benjamin, 14, and Alex, 11. “Even our two dogs are male,” she said. “I have learned if I turn Adele on, they run.” The face behind Keep Corinth-Alcorn Beautiful has been nursing a herniated disc for several weeks. “I got this special stand for my computer and it allows me to work while standing,” she added. “It’s a little weird, but definitely less painful than sitting down all the time.” When not picking up litter, Rose enjoys babying her chickens. “Few people know that I’m a hobby chicken farmer,” she added.
