Legislation that would have added an additional sales tax on goods purchased in Corinth died this week after making its second appearance in the state
capitol. Mayor Tommy Irwin asked Mississippi lawmakers to again support a resolution for a local sales tax increase of 0.25 percent last month. Both Sen. Rita Potts Parks
(R) and Rep. Lester “Bubba” Carpenter (R) sponsored the bill, which stated the additional funds could only be used on infrastructure. “I believe the Corinth sales tax legislation died this ses-

Absentee voting goes on despite challenge

The American Legion Auxiliary is looking for blood donors. A blood drive is being hosted by the group today at the Post 6 Legion Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drive is being done through United Blood Services. “We chose United because they service North Mississippi when there is a need for blood products,” said Carlean Parker with the American Legion Auxiliary. Appointments and walk-ins are both being accepted, according to Parker. Those with appointments will be taken care of first. “Giving blood is important in many different ways,” said Parker. “We never know when someday the life of a loved one or even ourselves may depend on the gift of a blood donation.” Parker points to 9/11 when the need of blood was tremendous. “Had it not been for the donations from common everyday people the call could not have been answered,” she said. “While we pray nothing like
