Rienzi hits snag on school property BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

RIENZI — A reverter clause in the property deed for the closed Rienzi Elementary School may prevent a private school from locating there. Mayor Walter Williams said the town’s attorney received a letter from the Alcorn School District regarding the recent

agreement between the town and Pathway Christian Academy, which planned to begin classes at the former elementary school property in April. The letter informs the town that the arrangement would trigger the reverter clause. The town had thought the private religious school would be an acceptable use.

“They don’t see it that way,” said Williams. “If the state and federal was putting money into it, I could see their point. But there’s no state and federal money being put in.” Pathway Christian Academy, a K-12 school in Corinth, planned to use the gymnasium, Please see PROPERTY | 2

“It looks like every time we stick our head up out of the hole, there’s a foot there to step on it. I’m going to try to get the county and the whole community [behind us], and, if I have to go worldwide like the flag, I’m going to do it.” Rienzi Mayor Walter Williams

Magnolia Regional Health Center Auxiliary’s most recent Volunteer of the Year recipient said volunteering began many years ago with a persistent friend. MRHC recently announced Peggy Treadway as the 2016 recipient of their Volunteer of the Year. Treadway was presented with the award during a ceremony at the Mississippi Hospital Association’s Volunteer of the Year awards held at the Jackson Hilton. Treadway has been married to John Treadway for 43 years. They have two sons, three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. While Treadway began volunteering for MRHC Auxiliary (a.k.a. “Pink Ladies”) in 1997, she indicated her interest in volunteering had begun with a push from another volunteer. “I had said I was interested, but never filled out an application,” said Treadway. The volunteer was a friend who had also worked with Treadway for many years at ITT. Treadway had retired in 1995 and said she was not anxious to commit to anything so soon after retirement. However, her friend was persistent. “She actually brought me Please see AUXILIARY | 2
