County backs likely natural gas expansion BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Alcorn County supervisors agreed to give their blessing to a possible natural gas expansion by Walnut that would extend into western parts of the county.

At the request of the Mississippi Public Service Commission, the board adopted a resolution in support of the passage of a bill allowing Walnut to expand service from Tippah County into Alcorn County. The resolution is, however, con-

Corinth is building capital at the State Capitol. The Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and close to 20 other local constituents visited the Mississippi State Capitol for Corinth Capitol Day on Wednesday. The group, which included representatives with The Alliance, Main Street Corinth, Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Corinth School District and Alcorn School District, left legislators with the message “It’s More Fun Up North” during a three-hour meet-and-greet. “Everyone appreciated us being down there,” said tourism director Christy Burns. “Our state representatives – Nick Bain, Rita Potts Parks and Lester “Bubba” Carpenter – are all always good about introducing us to other legislators.” Members of the Corinth group took up two sections of the state capitol building rotunda. Slugburgers and tamales were on the minds of legislators during the Corinth visit. “Everyone was asking about them,” said Burns with a laugh. The two food items – something Corinth is known for over the years – were served two years ago during Corinth Capitol Day. Plans for the next capitol day will begin in May. “We just wanted to thank them for all they do,” said Burns. “It also helps to keep our name on their minds.”
