More candidates join busy ballot BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Candidates continue to sign on for election 2015 in Alcorn County. The open chancery clerk’s race gained a second candidate as Karen Duncan filed to run

for the office as a Democrat. An employee of the chancery clerk’s office, she joins former tax collector Greg Younger in seeking the post. Incumbent Bobby Marolt recently confirmed he will not seek reelection to a third term.

A seventh candidate has filed for the constable post 2 race — James Bryant will seek the post as a Republican candidate. In the post 1 race, John C. Butler Jr. has requested his name instead appear on the ballot as Johnny Butler.

Ned Cregeen, who recently confirmed he intends to run for sheriff, made it official by filing to run as a Democrat, bringing the number of sheriff candidates to five. Another, David Nunley, will not file until the final day of qualifying, Feb. 27.
