Flames destroy family residence BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com
It was pandemonium Monday morning as firefighters from four different stations responded to a ferocious blaze at a residence on CR 556 near the Prentiss County line. At approximately 7:30 a.m., firemen arrived to find the home, located on a dead end drive, had already been decimated by flames. The structure was unrecognizable, resulting in a total loss. Firefighters scrambled to contain grass fires as it raged out of control. A gas tank near the home had become dangerously overheated and had to be cooled off. “It took six or seven thou-
sand gallons of water to extinguish the flames, said Pisgah Fire Chief Gary Yancey, whose unit was the lead fire department working the scene. Tankers and responders from Southwest V.F.D., Biggersville V.F.D., Jacinto V.F.D. and Pisgah V.F.D. also responded to the call. Flames reignited a few hours later and were doused yet again. “The floor is still burning, said Yancey at about 2 p.m. Monday. Embers will continue to smoke and smolder for som time. No one was at the residence when the fire started. “The cause of the fire is still undetermined, said Yancy.
