Adult, 3 children sent to hospital after wreck BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

A slippery roadway may have caused a one-vehicle wreck Wednesday night. Four people, including three children, were transported to the hospital with injuries following the wreck in North

Corinth on Mississippi Highway 2 near North Polk Street. According to Corinth Police Department Capt. Landon Tucker, who responded to the late night wreck for accident reconstruction, the vehicle was traveling west on Highway 2 before leaving the roadway.

“From the road marks, we can tell the driver crossed in front of traffic before going into the ditch,” he said. “The vehicle then hit a culvert and overturned before landing upright.” Lakesha Richardson, of Guys,

“The rain didn’t help and the slippery roads may have been a factor. Drivers need to take extra precaution when driving in the rain or on wet pavement.” Police Capt. Landon Tucker

Tax collector wants to add drive-through BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Alcorn County is looking at the possibility of establishing a drive-through location for residents to make property tax payments and renew car tags. Both the current and former tax collectors, Larry Ross and Greg Younger, like the idea. “It’s going to present a lot of benefit to the people in the county,” said Ross. He is interested in leasing space at the former Trustmark Bank branch location at the corner of North Parkway and East Shiloh Road. An insurance office recently opened in the building, and some questions emerged about the legality of the two offices operating under one roof. “I still have the concerns I had before about the commingling of a public office and a private office in the same workspace, particularly when that public office is handling public funds,” said Board of Supervisors Attorney Bill Davis. An attorney general’s opinion obtained by Ross did not resolve the question, and the supervisors directed Davis to seek another one with more pointed questions. The drive-through would be another option for those who wish to avoid the stairs at the courthouse. “I always had the feeling

that the citizens of Alcorn County would appreciate a drive-through window where they could go through and pay property taxes and renew car tags,” said Younger. Supervisor Tim Mitchell said he does not like the idea of placing a drive-through off of county-owned property. He suggested the supervisors’ office would be a suitable location, although it would have the initial cost of outfitting a drive-through on the former sheriff’s department property, which has some unused space. Ross is looking at a threeyear lease if his proposal is eventually approved.

People of the Crossroads TaNechi Temple, Corinth A spokesperson for victims of sexual and domestic abuse, Miss Black Mississippi U.S. Ambassador 2017 TaNechi Temple is using her platform to help others find their voice. “Statistics show that African Americans are far less likely to seek professional help when dealing with mental health issues as a result of traumatic experiences,” explained Temple. “My goal is to send the message that your mental health is just as important as emotional and spiritual stability. It’s okay to seek counsel through therapy in addition to exercising your faith.” An Interventionist, Assistant Warrior Band Director/Color Guard and Drum Instructor at Corinth High School, Temple is preparing to represent Mississippi and compete in the Miss Black U.S. Ambassador Competition, held in July in Orlando.
