Car runs under truck; 3 airlifted, 4 injured BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Three people were airlifted from the scene of a wreck involving a car and an 18-wheeler in the Biggersville area Wednesday night. It happened about 6:30 p.m. on County Road 409 as the driver of the 18-wheeler was returning home and attempting to park his rig. Deputy Lucas Wooten said the trucker was backing the

truck into his driveway. “The car was westbound on 409 and ran right into the trailer,” said Wooten. The car went under the trailer, resulting in entrapment. Wooten said it is unclear if the driver simply did not see the truck or what may have caused the car not to stop. “The truck driver did have all his lights and everything was in working order,” the deputy said.

The car contained two males and two females. Three from the car were flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and the fourth went to Magnolia Regional Health Center. The truck driver was not injured. Wooten said names will be withheld pending completion of the accident report. Officials were on scene until about 8:30 p.m.

Art competition winner announced BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

More than 25 area students and their teachers visited Long-Lewis Ford-Lincoln on Thursday as the dealership announced the winner of its window art competition. Select art students from Alcorn Central, Biggersville, Corinth and Kossuth took part in the contest sponsored by Long-Lewis. Each school used up to four windows at the company to display art. “We gave them some criteria for their display like they had tie in their school, the Ford emblem and a Christmas theme,” said Internet Manager Jeremy Hartnell, who headed up the competition. “Schools had two weeks to complete their project.” Once the murals were completed, Hartnell posted photos of each mural on the dealership’s Facebook. The school with the most likes at the end of the contest won. Corinth High School took top honors with 448 Facebook likes, followed by Alcorn Central High School with 265 likes, Biggersville High School with 186 likes and Kossuth High School with 74 likes. The Corinth students were awarded a $500 check for their winning mural of the movie

“Elf,” which featured an oversized version of the Will Farrell character in his trademark green elf uniform and a depiction of CHS inside a snow globe. “We’re so thankful for Long Lewis for asking us to participate,” said CHS art teacher Jennifer LeGoff. “The students had so much fun working on this project and even more fun asking friends and family to vote.” LeGoff said the students shared ideas and designs, before the class voted on the final design. When CHS art students heard about the competition they couldn’t wait to get started. “It sounded so cool,” said 18-year-old CHS senior Tetra Tyes. “I started thinking about ideas immediately.” Tyes was quick to mention the entire group helped with the product. “It was a team effort,” she said. “All seven of us and Mrs. LeGoff worked in the cold and rain to get it done.” Other CHS students who assisted in the mural included Renee Prulhiere, Baylee Howard, Sydney Warren, Elizabeth Whitehurst and Erin Overholt.
