Powerball jackpot reaches $700 million EASTVIEW, Tenn. — Businesses in McNairy and Hardin counties which sell Tennessee Lottery tickets closest to the Mississippi stateline are reporting record sales when the multi-state jackpot reached a record $675 million.

game to a new record for Powerball and the largest jackpot of any lottery game in U.S. history. “Players around the country have joined the excitement for a chance to win such an incredible prize, but should remember to play responsibly; it only takes
one ticket to win,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. Also remember to sign your ticket immediately after purchase. Tickets must be purchased no Please see JACKPOT | 6A

January is an imaginative month at the Alcorn County Welcome Center. The first month of 2016 has been tabbed as “Creative Economy” at the center. “Our theme months have changed up this year,” said center supervisor Sherry Brown. “This month we are promoting things people create.” A display with items from such places as Pray Pottery, Hinkle Creek Pottery, Aspen Bay and a painting by artist Tony Bullard can be seen at the center through the end of the month. The criteria for inclusion among Mississippi’s creative enterprises is that the company’s products or services acquire their competitive advantage or receive substantial value from a distinctive appearance, form, content or sound, according to Mississippi’s Creative Economy study. “Things which bring people to the state such as Green Market and the Crossroads Museum are considered part of the creative economy,” added

Ivan Parker is bringing the “Midnight Cry” to Corinth. The Southern Gospel artist will be performing the signature song along with a few others during a Friday, Feb. 19 concert at the Corinth Coliseum Civic Center. Jason Parker and The Downs Family are also slated to appear at the 6:30 p.m. event. “Midnight Cry” – written by brothers Chuck and Greg Day in 1986 – was originally recorded by Gold City with Parker as the lead vocal. The song has been recorded thousands of times and sung all over the world in different languages. It was also featured in the first “Left Behind” movie. “Midnight Cry” quickly became the signature song of Parker. “I just could not get away from the message in the song,” said Parker via his website. “It meant a lot to me because it was the message that tugged at my heart the night I gave my heart to the Lord.”
