The Corinth Board of Mayor and Aldermen is making its intentions more clear regarding a proposed special sales tax. In Tuesday’s meeting, the board voted to amend its prior resolution regarding a special sales tax for infrastructure and economic de-

velopment to make it up to 0.25 percent rather than up to 1 percent. Rep. Lester “Bubba” Carpenter is introducing a bill requesting Corinth be allowed to set a special election in which residents would vote on whether to collect the special sales tax. At any given moment there are approximately 33 homeless individuals residing in Alcorn County. Crosswind Ministries is seeking a solution. Partnering with MUTEH (Mississippi United to End Homelessness), the nonprofit ministry will once

again conduct a comprehensive search for the homeless in their area. Conducted once a year, the 2015 Point-In-Time (PIT) count will focus solely on the revelations of one day. “The mindset there is by taking a small slice (one day), if we have down our homework thoroughly enough, then the one day we hold the

ATLANTA — Southeast Regional Director Stan Austin announced Dale Wilkerson has been selected as the next superintendent of Shiloh National Military Park headquartered in Shiloh, Tenn. Wilkerson has served since 2007 as the administrative officer at the Natchez Trace Parkway, headquartered in Tupelo. “We are very fortunate to have Dale com- Wilkerson ing on board as the superintendent at Shiloh,” Austin said. “In his 20year Park Service career he has proven himself to be a dedicated and effective leader. He did an outstanding job as acting superintendent of Natchez Trace Parkway and has shown a great ability to work with park partners and community leaders. We know he will be a great leader for one of our most significant and iconic Civil War parks.” “Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh National Cemetery and the Corinth Interpretive Center are such great places,” said Wilkerson. “I am truly honored to have been selected as superintendent.” Wilkerson will begin his new assignment in early February. “Although the Revolutionary War established the nation, we are defined as a people mostly by the struggles endured during the Civil War,” said Wilkerson. “At the Battle of Shiloh, there were almost 24,000 casualties, more than all the previous U.S. wars combined to that date … this is truly a place of honor, one of the hallowed grounds in the United States.” The National Park Service celebrates its 100th anniversary next year. “As we move toward celebra-
