GeorGia’s Gone Gun happy

he state of Georgia recently passed new gun legislation that is receiving criticism, and for good reason. The Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014, or the “Guns Everywhere Bill” as opponents have named it, allows individuals to obtain a about anywhere they’d like.

The numerous places Georgians can now carry guns into includes places of worship, bars, school zones, school functions, government buildings, certain parts of airports, and even private buildings, so long as the owners give permission, according to the Washington Post.

GeorgiaCarry, a gun rights group in Georgia, lobbied for the bill, and considers it to be a “meaningful pro-gun administration,” although they also think its wateredAssociation is, not surprisingly, praising the bill saying it is the most “comprehensive, pro-gun reform legislation introduced in recent history.”

The bill sparked debate in Georgia among various political groups. Americans for Responsible Solutions, as well as Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense In America, strongly opposed the bill, saying that it was extreme and “moved Georgia out of the mainstream,” according to USA Today.

“I don’t know of a single pastor in the state of Georgia who has been lobbying to have guns brought into their churches,” said Warnock, according to CNN. “When we say ‘Pass the peace,’ we mean P-E-A-C-E, not the P-I-E-C-E.” This bill is so ridiculous that if it weren’t

real, I would think it is satirical. It is lawmakers were thinking when they passed the bill. Did they honestly expect private buisnesses, airports and places of worship to allow people to bring guns onto their property?

One can imagine that most of these establishments will ban guns on the grounds that it is bad for business, and improper for worship.

This is not “comprehensive reform,” this at the expense of other needs. By passing this bill, Georgia compromises everything reasonable in the realm of gun rights, and satisfy both gun owners and those who want tighter gun control.

Gun control activists, as well as gun owners, should try to overturn this legislation. Other states will look at this, and

failure of this bill. extreme reaction in the opposite direction, or at least extremely restrictive gun control laws. In the end, it may harm gun owners far more than it ever helped them.

This kind of extreme does not make for good laws or policies. Only when a reasonable middle-ground is found, can a law be truly helpful to society.
