Welcome to the 2023 Melbourne Disability Connecton Expo, sponsored by Blossom Community Care. Inside this magazine, you can fnd some great profles and sponsor spotlights, advertsements from providers and updates from us here at Developing Australian Communites.
This year we are delivering the biggest events Australia has ever seen in the Disability and NDIS sector at Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. We are also launching our huge Virtual Connecton Expo platorm so that Australians can connect with service providers, see updates, watch on demand content, join in with virtual conferences and topic days from leaders all around the word.
The last few years have taught us all more than ever that we need lots of diferent ways to connect and stay connected. This is why we are partnering with so many great sponsors and building a huge network and movement with partcipants, families, carers, Guardians and service providers from all over Australia to help us see a disability sector we can all be proud of.
Working with the Natonal Disability Leadership Organisaton (NDLO) we are also able to support the Disability Staf Recogniton Awards in each state to raise funds and support Paralympics Australia, the Australian Paralympic Team and the next generaton of Paralympians. It is a huge night and a great way to take tme out and look at how we can all work together.
As we always say, we don’t do halls, stalls and pamphlets alone. We know that getng out
and connectng needs to be supported and an opportunity for the community to come together and spend tme together. Our Expos are community events over two days and we make sure there is plenty to do, lots of space, seatng, food, entertainment and a great atmosphere so people can enjoy their tme connectng. This is why we see many people come on both days just to cover everything that is on ofer.
Don’t forget, if you have a burning NDIS queston, make sure you swing by the Ask A NDIS Expert - Support Hub.
The last 3 years we have had the honour of being on hundreds of items of coverage across radio, TV and print media raising awareness of important issues and changes in the disability sector and NDIS space. We have also had the opportunity to connect media outlets with some amazing service providers and people living with disability to share their stories.
With the huge media presence we experience here at Developing Australian Communites, our Expos and campaigns, we have grown our marketng solutons departments and media release capacity to regularly release content, announcements, stories and updates to over 6,000 media outlets, journalists and
newsrooms around Australia. We know how tme-poor service providers are and we are now helping many organisatons to show what they can do, so that the people that need service optons can fnd them when and where they are required.
With the Royal Commission and the huge amount of work being done by our new Minster the Hon Mr Bill Shorten and his state colleagues we have seen the Government focused on change and improvements. It has been a welcome sight in the last 12 months to see the work of leaders in Australia like Australian Paralympic legend and disability advocate Mr Kurt Fearnley AO, appointed Chairman of the Board of the Natonal Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and the work done by our 2022 Australian of the Year Mr Dylan Alcot OAM.
2023 is looking to be a huge year for Australia, the Disability and NDIS Sectors. We look forward to working with so many great members of our community, services providers and sponsors. Lets make those connectons and see real change!

Developing Australian Communites welcomes
Tradies Finance as a Gold Sponsor of the Melbourne Disability Connecton Expo on the 21st and 22nd April 2023.
Tradies Finance is a Non-Bank Lender with a unique lending product which allows more and more people to be involved in NDIS Investment Propertes, which is a huge win for people with disabilites, as demand for propertes isn’t keeping up with the needs of clients.
With Tradies NDIS lending product, Owner Occupiers and Investors can use a Long Form valuaton to value the property, rather than a traditonal Short Form valuaton. This means they can use the full purchase price and 90% of the NDIS rental rather than fgures from a standard rental to secure the property.
Rod, the Managing Director at Tradies Finance, has a daughter with cerebral palsy, so he has lived experience of disability and the aspiratons parents have for their grown children to live a life of independence and autonomy as they reach adulthood and want to achieve all the things that any young adult wants, their own home.
Specialist Disability Accommodaton (SDA) is housing that is designed specifcally to meet the needs of people with very high support needs. Purpose-built disability housing is a growing market segment.
When combined with the SDA commonwealth funding payment model, SDA housing investments provide lucratve rental yields, much higher than what is atainable in standard residental or commercial propertes. SDA payments are made under the Natonal Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) program, to eligible partcipants to enable them to pay for accommodaton in SDA housing.
The Natonal Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent statutory agency. Their role is to implement the Natonal Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). There are around 4.3 million Australians who have a disability. Within the next fve years, the Natonal Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will provide more than $22 billion in funding a year to an estmated 500,000 Australians who have permanent and signifcant disability.
The Australian Federal Government, working through NDIS, has commited funding towards Specialist Disability Accommodaton for the next 20 years, providing an ultra-high yield investment opportunity for ethical property investors looking for more than just great income, but more importantly, ofering the opportunity to make a real diference in the lives of people with a disability.
The number of people who need to live in supported accommodaton is on the rise but there is a critcal shortage of propertes available and that is where Tradies Finance can help. With their focus on ethical investng, they can guide you through the process and help you garner an understanding of the NDIS system to help you make an informed decision about where to invest.
Tradies Finance have a number of wholesale funders behind them, and have been in business for nearly 20 years, so you can rest assured they know their stuf. They have also partnered with a number of other specialist companies in this space, to make sure every piece of the puzzle is covered. The great thing is that you know your investment’s end result is for the tenants to live their best life possible.
