Attheoutset,IwouldliketocongratulateDivisionNfortheirNewsletter Neptune andalsowouldliketoexpressmyheartfeltthanksforgivingmetheopportunityto sharetheforeword.

Thetheme"ZerotoOne"tookmebackto6yearsagowhenIalwaysbelieveddoor die, success or failure, yes or no and nothing in between was the purpose of undertaking any task. Once I joined Toastmasters I learnt something beautiful called "Intent" or "Purpose". When you take up any task or challenge the efforts you put in with a focused intent will help you reach the destination. During my journeyasaToastmasterLeader,Idiscoveredthistruthofnotbeingbotheredby results,butthejourneyoreffortsyouputintoreach1fromzerochangesthegame. When you have the right intent and when you follow the value system you have createdyourselfwilldefinitelyhelpyoureach1.Enjoytheresultsyoudeserve,but neverforgettocherishthejourneyandthelessonsitteaches.

Thethemeisaninterestingonethatbringsamessagetoallthememberstowork together,share,enjoyandlearntogetherandrisetosuccess. Iamafirmbelieverinthetruththatalonewecandosolittleandtogetherwecan dosomuch.Inthesetestingtimes,Ifeelthisholdsmoretruth. We have all joined Toastmasters in search of something - friendship, improving communication skills, and growing as a leader; the reasons are manifold and it variesfromeverymember.Iwishwestrive,andtogetherwecanachieveourgoals; Ibelievewhenwehelpotherstoachievegoalswecanachieveourgoalstoo,and liveawonderfuljourneyoflife.

Journeys inspire me as I love travelling. The fun, thrill and satisfaction I feel on a tripareunparalleled.Iremembersomeyearsago,Iusedtopackalotofstuffinmy bags with everything I might need, and more, in the future course of travel. This sometimes was frustrating, the weight of the bags and the hassle to carry them reducedthefunofthetrip.TheweightusedtopullmedownwhileItriedtoboarda train,aflightorsimplywalkontheroad.TheextrabaggagewastheproblemandI decidedtoreducemypackingtokeeponlyessentialsinfuturetravels.Thishelped me,travelmorefreely,andlightlyandenjoylifeinacarefreemanner.Inlifetoo,we oftenhavealotofbaggagefromthepast.Thisbaggageweighsusdown.

WeatToastmastersalwaystalkaboutthecorevalues,contests,leadership, meetingroles,pathways,DTMs,etcetcetc.Butwhatarewemissingouton intheprocess?Myfriend,Wearemissingoutontheexperience.Whilewe have the aim to achieve and we are running so badly behind it that we forget that journey is more beautiful than the destination. There might be onebigtrophywaitingforyouattheendbutallthosesmalllessonsonthe wayarefarmorepreciousthanthattrophyattheend.

6MonthsasaDivisionDirector,Icanproudlysaythatwehavecomealong way from where we started. 250 Members, 200 educational awards,14 Clubs, 5 education sessions, 3 areas, and 1 division and I can say that this hasbeenanexperience.

Althoughwehavebeensuccessfulinthepast6months,wehavemiles to go before we sleep (to quote Robert Frost). The upcoming months will bringyoualotofactivities,goalstoachieve,checklists,andopportunities to test your hard work. I would encourage every member to participate in the upcoming International Speech Contest to contribute to their club’s successandmaketheirdivisionaPRESIDENT’SDISTINGUISHEDDIVISION.

From J.K. Rowling to Barack Obama to Colonel Sanders to Dhirubhai Ambani…. thelistisendless.Whatdothesewell-knownnameshaveincommon?Theybegan with Zero and went on to become no. 1 in their chosen field. What is it that sets apart these achievers? The belief they had in themselves, and in the vision they had.Addedtothatwereperseverance,passionandpatience.Theperfectrecipeto gofromZerotoOne.

1. The first trait to achieve something, therefore, should be an obsession, a positiveone,ofcourse.Yourobsessionisthemostvaluabletoolyouhavetobuild thelifeyoudreamof.

2. Next, we should be willing to adapt ourselves to the changing scenario. The worldanditsdemandskeepevolving.Soshouldwe.Therecentpandemicshowed us many hard-hitting truths. Humans the world over, adapted themselves to the work-from-homeculture.

3. Work smarter, not harder. This means putting in the appropriate amount of work at the appropriate time. Working hard is never the goal. The real goal is to workhalfasmuchandgettwiceasmuchdone.

4.Acceptfailuresthatwillcomeyourway.InyourjourneyfromZerotoOne,don’t expect miracles. Be prepared for setbacks. Also remember, you are not alone. There will always be people who will have your back. Build strong relationships withthem.

On1stJuly2022,theclusterturnedintothenewlyformedDistrict126. IamgratefultohavegottentheopportunitytoservetheDivisionandtheDistrictas an Area Director. This is the first time that I am serving as a District Officer. The opportunity came with its own set of challenges. Having served as Club's Executive-CommitteeOfficerinthepast, Ihaveinteractedandworkedcloselywith thethenAreaDirectors.Ihavereachedouttothematoddhourswithrequestsfor assistance and they always reverted almost immediately. They made everything look so easy. It's only now that I am on the other side of the grass I realise how challenging the role is. The amount of hard work and planning that goes into conductingflawlessandglitch-freecontestsisunimaginable. Thefruitsoftheirhardworkanddedicationarebeingenjoyedbyallofustoday.It waswhenIattendedtheDOTP2atVizagIobservedthatDivisionNwassohighly respectedbyotherDivisions;thereasonbeingthatDivisionNhassteadfastlyheld on to the core values of Toastmasters International and served its members diligently. ItisthisrichlegacythatIwishtocarryforward.

Beingatthehalfwaymarkofmyjourney,ithasbeenfulloflearnings.Icansafely saythatIhavegrowninleapsandboundsintermsofselfbeliefandconfidence. Due to the vision a few leaders had Division N come into existence, comprising areasofNagpur,Raipur,andBhilaiandmanymoreunexploredareas.

Justliketheseunexploredareas,wehavepotentialinus.Beingacollegestudent and an Area Director helped me explore a bit of potential in me. It has its own benefits and its own challenges. You get to learn from the keenest minds around you,yougettointeractwiththemostcreativeminds.Butatthesametime,youare responsibleforthegrowthanddownfallofaclub.Keepmotivatingandhelpingis mymottoandspreadingloveandknowledgeisDivisionN's.

When one individual grows, that person tries to educate people around and this processneverstops.Eventually,acommunitygrowsasawhole.

Istronglybelieveinthequote“Strengthandgrowthcomeonlythroughcontinuous effortsandstruggles.“IfeelproudthatI’mamemberofDivisionN.TheDivisionis notjustputtingefforttobeoneofthebestDivisionsbutalsoleadingbyexample. TheDivisionsupportedmesincefromdayOne,throughoutthejourneyofanewbie tobecominganAreaDirector.

It was never too easy for me to come out of my bubble and be a Leader, but ToastmastersgavemeaplatformandmyfellowToastmasters(family)werealways there to guide me. I will be always thankful to Division N and the members of DivisionNforpushingmefordifferentleadershiproles.

I will always cherish the journey from a stranger to a member, a member to a mentorandamentortoafamily.I’mhalfwaythroughmyjourneyasaLeaderanda number of hurdles are waiting for me but I trust the process on top of that my fellowteammatesTMBhumi,TMMonicaandofcourseTMSakshi,whowillalways betheretoholdmyhandwhereverthesituationgolaborious.

Contest

UTSAH,thejointAreaContestofAreas1,2,and3,ofDivisionN,District126,was heldonNovember13thand14thof2022.Thecontestsawparticipationfromover 30contestantsfromallthreeareasofDivisionN,andsixwinnerswerecrownedin boththeHumorousSpeechContestandtheEvaluationsContest.

IntheHumorousSpeechContest,thewinnerswereTMIqraandTMSamikshafrom AreaN1,TMPalakandTMHargunfromAreaN2,andTMAkshanshandTMAamir from Area N3. In the Evaluations Contest, the winners were TM Samikha and TM SanjanafromAreaN1,TMPalakandTMGunjanfromAreaN2,andTMVaishaliand TMVaibhavfromAreaN3.

Term

The first-ever joint Division Conference for District 126, known as Euphoria, took place on December 3rd and 4th, and then again on December 10th and 11th of 2022. TM Deepalika, the Past Division N Director, served as Convenor for the conference, while TM Monica Dixit, Area N1 Director, acted as PQ Chair. The Divisionliveduptoitsmottoof#ShineTogetherasmembersactivelyparticipated and nominated themselves for various roles at the conference. Area N3 Director TMRushikeshtookontheroleofContestChair,whileAreaN2DirectorTMBhumi juggled several important roles including Contest Chair, Timer, SAA, and Tally Counter.

Overall,thejointAreaContestandDivisionConferenceweresuccessfuleventsthat broughttogethermembersofDivisionNtoshowcasetheirskillsandsupportone anotherintheirpursuitofpersonalandprofessionalgrowth.

Mymentor(TMSakshi)toldme,“ifyouwanttopreparefor any contest. Do not prepare for it just by yourself but practisewithotherstoo.”ShesuggestedIgoandtakethe evaluator role in other club meetings and ask them for feedback. I took her advice, and the feedback I received helped me become better and prepare for the Evaluation contest.

Being a contestant was a proud and fascinating moment for me. I was sitting and enjoying the contest, seeing the contestantsputintheirhardworktomakeuslaughduring the Humorous Speech Contest and learning to improve through others' mistakes and how gracefully you can give someone points for improvements during the Evaluation Contest.

Afterthecontest,therewasonethoughtbeingawinneror loserisamyth.Youcompleteonepathofyourgoalandget readyforthenext.

TM Iqra says, “While preparing for the contest the first thing which struck my mind was I have to give my best shot. I have come so far which means I'm capable of doingthis.Ijustneededtoprovemyself,Istartedputting more effort into my presentation skills as that's my strengthwhichspicesupthespeechandthebestpartis toenjoytheprocess. Being a contestant was a great experience for me while competingwithsuchgoodspeakersandlookingaround atsomanypeoplewhoarestandingwithmetosupport andmotivatemewhichkeptmepumpedup.Also,itfeels great to hold a winning position even though I got to knowalotaboutmycapabilities.”

TM Samiksha says, “Contest is like strong positive emotionswithphasesbeforeandafter.

WhenthecontestbeganIfeltlikeexpressingmythoughts andfeelingsintheformofmyspeech.BeforetheContest, during the preparation phase, I focused on thinking, organising and ordering my thoughts along with delivery to help me prepare and get better for the contest. No matterhowmanytimesyoureadit,itseemsincomplete. This was the feeling that I had during the contest. But whenmynamewasannouncedasawinner,allmyefforts paidoff.”

TM Vaibhav says, “the Evaluation Contest is a different ball game. It is like delivering a prepared speech but an impromptu one. I am thankful to my club NTC for providing me with quite a few opportunities to make evaluationsbeforetheactualcontests.Ithelpedmetrya few patterns and finalise the one to use in the contest. I went through some videos of evaluations and used the techniques I found interesting. Of them, the one I eventually used was from District Level Evaluation champion Jonathan Peng. As per his suggestion, it is more useful to dive deep into one strong point of the speechthandescribingshortlymanypoints.Practiceand learningweremypillarsforpreparation.Youmayhavea lotofpreparationsandmayhavecontestedmanytimes, buteachtimeIwasonthestageIfeltthebutterfliesinmy stomachwouldwreakhavocbeforeItookthestage.The experience of being part of the Division Contest was enriching. The performance and the energy were admirable. And to top it all, witnessing a beautifully crafted and delivered speech was of immense value in terms of learning. I stood third in the contest. It is of course a thing of pride and pleasure. It gives motivation and pushes to contest more and do better next time, everytime. NagpurToastmasters Club,N3 15

"Itdoesnotmatterwhatkindofresulttherewillbeinthe end.Ihavealreadywon."Withthisbeautifulquoteinmy mind,Istartedpreparingformyspeechtwoweeksprior to the contest. For me it wasn’t about winning, I felt I alreadywonbyreachingtheDivisionlevelallIwantedto dowastogivemybest. While preparing I chose the topic and took suggestions from a few colleagues on how to write the speech. I completedthatintwodaysandstartedmodifyingitwith the help of my mentors. I had a lot of doubts about myself and my preparation. But then my colleagues mademerealisemypotential. While contesting, my experience was full of learning. When the contest began, I was really nervous about my performance because it was an online contest. I felt like going out of my comfort zone. Also, I was contesting in bothEvaluationContestandHumorousSpeechContest, so the pressure was double, but as soon as the contest began, I witnessed the performances of other contestants and felt privileged to learn so much from them. It was not only about the speeches they were presenting but when I noticed them giving their heart and soul into their performances. It was visible that despite being so experienced, they had the hunger to learn more, and this gave me the motivation to keep learning.
