My journey with Toastmasters began in 2019, and from that day to today, it has been a truly wonderful and amazing experience. I joined during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, and all our meetings were held online. Despite these challenges, we continued with our online meetings, and I can’t express how valuable those experiences have been. In 2021, during TM Gihan Jayaweera’s year, I was selected as the Vice President of Membership for Oasis Toastmasters Club. This marked a turning point in my Toastmasters journey and my life as a whole. While I had held leadership roles university, Toastmasters was a unique and transformative experience. In that year, except for the President, all other executive members were relatively new to Toastmasters. Yet, together with our dedicated members, we worked tirelessly to make Oasis a significant club in District 82. You all may recall the year when we proudly won the Beyond the Boundaries award at Ovation, even the Golden club award. It was a testament to the dedication and passion of our members. The following year, I was honored to be selected as the Vice President of Education. Alongside Sankhanie and our entire team, we continued the legacy of Oasis Toastmasters Club, taking it to new heights. s the Area Director of Division K, Area 2, I wanted to take a moment to

acknowledge the incredible achievements of your club. Your dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and I am honored to be a part of your continued success.

As a result, they were able to achieve 6 DCP points and are working on achieving the rest of the points. Recently I completed my first Area Director's visit to Oasis Toastmasters Cub witnessing an awesome meeting. I hope that there will be more and more Toastmasters who are capable of playing a paramount role in the district. Not only the above but also they had Theme Meetings which added a variety to the regular meeting schedule and which made members more engaging. I would like to wish all the very best to the Oasis Toastmasters Club for their future endeavors. TM SANKHANIE SURAWEERA AREA DIRECTOR Area 2 , Division K District 82

Oasis, a standout club in our division, thrives on teamwork rather than individualism, a key factor in its success. The club not only excels internally but also actively supports the division and extends help to other clubs. This cooperative spirit sets Oasis apart, making it a model of sportsmanship and success. These are few observations that I had by myself with regarding your club. I can see that Oasis toastmasters going have very bright future. All the very best for your future activities. fter laying the foundation for Oasis Brand during my tenure as VPPR two years ago,

stakeholder feedback underscored the challenge of swiftly enhancing our quality to match the standards of other top clubs in Toastmasters International. Thus, when I assumed the role of Vice President Education (VPE) just four months ago, I initiated a thorough research endeavor to ascertain our members' current standing and understand their shortterm and long-term expectations from Toastmasters.

Following insightful discussions with the Club Executive Committee (Exco), we collaboratively established VPE objectives aligned with Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals. Currently, our achievements stand at an impressive three out of six DCP goals related to education, including nine level completions, four Ice Breakers, and a 100% pathway enrollment rate.

A significant milestone for Oasis occurred as, for the first time in history, four members advanced to the Division's speech contest, accompanied by another member progressing to a different division level. This accomplishment reflects not only individual growth but also the collective strength of our club. To further enhance the sense of community and shared knowledge, the Oasis Education team and Exco initiated an impactful endeavor – special online club meetings held bi-monthly. These sessions serve a dual purpose: reconnecting past and present members and creating an environment for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Past members share insights, offering inspiration and guidance to the current generation, fostering a familial atmosphere within Oasis Brand.

The "Lead to the Glory" outbound leadership training session, orchestrated by the VP Educational team for Excos and potential young leaders, emphasized the pivotal role of grooming future leaders.

Conducted by an experienced corporate trainer, the session delved into various leadership facets, including effective communication, decision-making, and team building. This initiative aligns with Toastmasters International's ethos that leaders are made through structured modules, drawing from the experiences of established leaders and practical application.

Looking ahead, our commitment extends to external mentor assignments, encouraging mentors to explore the mentor pathway, and providing increased opportunities for club members at the area, division, and district levels. These initiatives, coupled with our continuous focus on connectivity, shared experiences, and leadership development, position Oasis as not merely a club but a nurturing ground for individuals to lead, learn, and leave a lasting legacy.

WANT TO JOIN OASIS? Give me a call.. First of all, I must say, I’m happy to be the VP Membership of Oasis Toastmasters. Oasis is like my second family. So, as the VP membership I do my best to my family. The Vice president membership role is a very difficult role in a club because the VP Membership’s job is to gain more members to the club and somehow make them members of the club. It was really challenging because of the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, but I could achieve 06 new members, 01 reinstated member, and 91% member retention before last October. This is a teamwork. All the executive committee members and the VP Membership extended team are always behind me helping to achieve this challenge. Every meeting is a special meeting for me as I became one of the key roles of the meeting in explaining the value of Toastmasters. Sometimes I think “Am I talking too much?”. No, it was not, becasue that is the ‘service’ that I can give to my club. If I become successful, I get a call from a guest after few days. “I want to get the membership. Please send me the account details and the fee. I will transfer the amount.” Those are the most beautiful words I hear as the VP membership. Finally, as the VP Membership what I have to say is that Toastmasters is a good opportunity to connect with people, loose your fear of public speaking, become a better leader, learn about lots of things, work as a team, and have fun. This is about more than your payment. It will build up your personality, and improve public speaking skills and communication skills. So, my dear friends think about your future, Toastmasters is the place where leaders are made. TM CHAMATH LIYANAARACHCHI Vice President Membership 2023/2024. Oasis Toastmasters Club, Nittambuwa.

DTM SHEHARA DISSANAYAKE

“Oasis Toastmasters club has a lively and creative set of members. The professionally conducted fun filled meetings, close bond between members regardless of distance, creative and out-of-the-box PR campaigns to promote the Toastmasters brand are what makes the club unique. The quality of member experience in terms of communication and leadership skills enhanced by the club is evident as they keep producing division level speakers and district leaders to the fraternity.”

TM CHATHURIKA JINADASA

“I had the pleasure of attending the joint meeting of Oasis and Readers TMC, which was also my first joint meeting with Readers, and I absolutely enjoyed the hospitality, welcome and friendliness of Oasis TMC. It was very obvious to see what a close knit club they are, how well they embody the core values of Toastmasters and how they support each other like a family to help each other reach their best. I also know how kind, considerate and helpful they are to others in the wider TM community. I wish them continued success and look forward to more interactions with the club in the future!”

TM AMNA ZAMAN

“Oasis Toastmasters Club is a group of fun and friendly Toastmasters whom I'm privileged to have worked with. Their dedication to meticulously planning and executing meetings is truly impressive! Wishing them continued success in creating engaging and enjoyable meetings!”

GUEST ASHEN WIJESINGHA

“The OASIS Toastmasters Club in Nittambuwa is a vibrant and engaging platform for individuals looking to improve their communication skills and build a strong network. With a focus on strategic content and consistency and when I went there for a club meeting they warmly welcomed me and I felt like all the members are just like my family. I felt grateful be with them.”

Let’s learn from a District Champion.... 1.Know Your Timeline, In order to be a Champion you need to know when your club contest will happen. When your area contest will happen, and when will your division contest is happening. You need to start getting ready at least 3 months before the club contest. 2. To assess your current position, compare your speeches with those of other champions, such as international and humorous speakers, to determine your current level. 3. Off Season Training, what you can do in the off season training is to find your errors and try overcome your errors. For example if you have language issue or vocabulary issue you can work on your language usage and vocabulary at these time period. 4. Season training is a three-month period before a contest, during which you learn techniques from off-season training. Two weeks before the contest, you must deliver a solid speech and a script, and it's crucial to write your own speech, not relying on a mentor or family member.

“BE THE CHAMPION WHO YOU DREAM TO BE”

5. Perfect practice makes perfect. In the off-season, deliver a speech at your club and have everyone evaluate it. Use an evaluation sheet and provide it to your VP of Education. Ask for feedback on points you liked and those you think need improvement. 6. Listen to various evaluations of your speech and filter out what needs improvement. If it aligns with your ideal points, accept it, if not, leave it. We should not follow everyone's advice. 7. Delivery Of The Speech With the amendments you had in your speech practice well and deliver your speech in the club contest. 8. Change Some Parts Of Your Speech Let’s imagine that you won the club contest. Then you have to change some parts of the speech and keep on good practice of the speech that you have changed. 9. Mental and physical preparation is crucial for contests, including avoiding sugar and cold items to prevent illness and ensure a healthy mindset. 10. Practice consistently, ignoring negative feedback, and stay focused on your goal. Remember that success comes with time, and you may need to wait another year for better luck. Be prepared to win but also expect to lose.

Oasis toastmasters club is not only about doing educational meetings and completing pathways but also, it is including with some entertaining and adventurous items as well. Toastmasters visited Diyathalawa as their annual trip and make an unforgettable toastmasters meeting memory. In this year Oasis Toastmasters visited Nuwara Eliya and completed their 290th meeting at Kandeella Reservoir in Nuwaraeliya. It was 3 days annual trip. In the first day of trip, the trip was started early in the morning from Nittambuwa by hired bus.

The staying place was really amazing and eye-catching place because it was surrounded by flower garden and small harvested hills. On the first day night they had a bbq dinner with fun games. The dinner was prepared by their own. It was a great experience to all of them. The climate was really cold and it was about 13 degrees of celcius at night.

There were 16 participants. The breakfast was taken in an eyecatching place near Avissawella while they were travelling. While they were travelling, they stopped St. Claires’s Waterfall and Bakers waterfall and enjoyed those places by taking beautiful photographs. They could reach Nuwaraeliya at around mid-day and lunch was taken near Gregory-lake. After having lunch, they went to buy some goods for preparing their meals. After shopping moment, they went to their resort which was booked for Oasis Toastmasters.

On the second day of the journey, they woke up by 8.00 am in the morning and had their breakfast and started to visit places in Nuwaraeliya. Since it was a rainy day, they couldn’t climb Piduriuthalagala. Therefore, they visited Ambewela, Highland and Kandella reservoir.

They got amazing toastmaster photos at Kandeella reservoir. It was looked like a mystery place because of the thick mist. And the climate was really cool. The decided to have their 290th Oasis Toastmasters meeting at Kandeella Reservior. They got so unforgettable photography experiences there. In the evening they went to have a town visit and had their evening tea at a restaurant.

While they were traveling, they bought some strawberries, pears, and some strawberry products from shops in Nuwara Eliya. Also, they did not forget to play some enjoyable games and sing songs while they were on the bus. They got their dinner at a restaurant in Peradeniya. While they were traveling, they were enjoying some horror stories.

At around 7.00 pm they got to their rest house and prepared dinner. It was also a great dinner with some delicious toast. They did some fun games like round robin session. On the last day they woke up early in the morning and packed their stuffs because it’s their last day of their trip.

All the travelers reached Nittambuwa around 9.00 pm at night. Actually, it was a wonderful and unforgettable journey with lots of memories of the Oasis Toastmasters Family.
