What’s poppin narwhals! I hope you are all off to a smooth and healthy start to the school year! After being sheltered in place for over half a year, I think we have now nearly fully adapted to the way things are. I am astounded by Division 42 East’s resilience and passion for service through these troubling times. This time is always one of the busiest of the year for Key Club, combining your return to school with college applications, SATs, other clubs ,and more. Nevertheless, the visible effort that has been put forth by our officers, members, and advisors has continued to amaze me. However, it is still not yet time to rest! Key Club has been facing membership decline for the past few years, diminishing the funds we can put towards saving children, homeless that we can feed, and all the other possible changes we can set forth in this world. This is the reason why member recruitment is so imperative to not only D42E but the whole CNH District. To all of our members, and especially our now seniors, go out and make an effort to put forth the legacy you want to leave for future members, prepare your club with the trustworthy leaders, and make memories in Key Club while you still can. Bringing new members into Key Club not only improves our organization, but the communities we serve. So get out there recruit members, serve in this difficult time, and, hey, maybe even fundraise a few dollars for PTP in the process.

Swimming in Service,

Carter Kawaguchi Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021 D42E | R10 | CNH District

Hey Narwhals! Summer has finally ended, which means most of you will probably get busier from school work. Out of all of our school years, this one will be quite different as it is all online. I wish you all the best of luck handling assignments virtually! Besides school work, I hope you all continue to provide service and stay active in Key Club as we will be trying our best to create projects and events for you guys to participate in! This summer was a success in terms of participation as we have been actively receiving membership involvement in our summer events. Even though it was all virtual and our resources were limited, it was nice to see that we can still be able to stay connected. I look forward into serving you all during the school year and I hope you all STAY SAFE and HEALTHY! Swimming in Service,

Heather Nguyen District News Editor 2020-2021 D42E | R10 | CNH District

For over two weeks in July, the Key Club at Westlake High School held a back to school themed donation drive. It stretched from July 22 up until August 5. Our members and anyone else who wanted to join were encouraged to donate any and all sorts of school supplies for those who needed it. Many of these donations included notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and more. Any donations made before the end of the drive on August 5 were to be dropped off at our club’s Kiwanis Advisor, Cristy’s house. On the last day for the donation drive on Wednesday, at 3:30, all of the donations were collected and brought to Pederson Park. There, a group of volunteers including some of our members helped to help organize and package all of the donated supplies into separate bags so that the supplies could be easily handed out the following week. The Adelante Comunidad Conejo Donation Drive was Newbury Park service project where we would gather or buy certain necessities such as food/supplies and deliver it out to the center for people in need. To make it easier for everyone in our club, we decided on planning dates, times, and locations for the donations. Our club advisor Betty, agreed to use her address as a drop off station for the donation drive where she would then drop all of the donations off to the center.

The MRP or Member Recognition Program is the program created by the CNH District to give members the recognition that they deserve! The program is open to all dues-paid members of the district and is awarded in four different levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. For Bronze through gold you will receive a personalized certificate and Platinum recipients will be able to walk across the stage at DCON and receive a plaque! Each level has its own respective achievements including but not limited to service hour requirements, event attendance, leadership positions, and other accomplishments. Please note that you do not need to complete every achievement listed for each award! For example, you only need to complete 5 of the 9 requirements to receive the Bronze Award. In addition, the requirements for the MRP have been adjusted to accommodate for the difficulties that one might face with the quarantine so look below to see the updated rubric explaining the items for each level. Now, what is the best part of the MRP? It doesn't require any application or supplements! The MRP works by utilizing the MRF (Monthly Report Form) completed by your club secretary to keep track of every member within the CNH District to determine which are eligible for awards. The only thing that the MRP requires is your passion, time, and effort! If you would like to know your progress on the MRP, reach out to your Secretary or President for your information from the MRF!
