WELCOME FROM THE CHANCELLOR Dear Buccaneer fans, On behalf of the Blinn College District, I welcome you to another great season of Buccaneer athletics.

This is an exciting time to support Blinn athletics as we look forward to another outstanding year of academic and athletic achievement.

Last year, Blinn’s dance team made history with its eighth consecutive national title while the cheer team placed second in the nation at the National Cheer Association & National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships.

In addition to these accomplishments, the volleyball team placed fifth at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championships in West Plains, Mo., women’s golf placed 13th at the national tournament in Ormond Beach, Florida, and men’s golf tied for 19th at the national tournament in Lubbock, Texas.

In addition to their success in intercollegiate competition, Blinn students enjoy a supportive, close-knit community at a campus that continues to grow. In recent years, the Blinn-Brenham Campus has welcomed the Kruse Center, a 36,000-square-foot student recreation and activities center that also hosts Buccaneer volleyball and basketball games; the Doyle Coatney Center, an 11,184-squarefoot indoor baseball and softball workout facility; and Mill Creek Hall, a 464-bed residence hall.

This fall, Blinn opened a new 72,000-square-foot science, technology, engineering, and innovation building on the Brenham Campus, providing a new home for Blinn’s science, engineering, and nursing programs. With more than 17,000 square feet of laboratory space and a 3,000-square-foot innovation center complete with new and emerging technologies, this facility represents just one of the ways that Blinn is preparing its students for success.

According to new data from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Blinn’s academic transfer rate ranks No. 1 in the state. Just as importantly, Blinn students taking 30 credit hours during the 2021-22 academic year will save 43% in tuition and fees compared to the average state university.

Few colleges can offer this combination of affordability and educational excellence.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is the governing body of two-year college athletics, offering athletic and academic opportunities to college students. It is the second largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the United States with over 500 member schools in 43 states. HISTORY OF THE BUCCANEERS The Blinn College athletic teams have not always been called the Buccaneers. From 1903-1929 they were called the Gophers, and from 1930-1931 they were the Bulldogs. The Buccaneer mascot officially was adopted in 1932.

W

ith historical roots established more than 138 years ago, the Blinn College District offers a variety of academic transfer, health science, technical and community education, and continuing education courses for approximately 17,500 students who attend one of our five campuses or comprehensive online programs.

The first athletic teams appeared in 1903.

G.W. Kopp coached football, basketball, and baseball, while teaching commercial business courses. In 1934, football was discontinued but reappeared in 1948, when Dr. James H. Atkinson was hired as the director of athletics and football and basketball coach. That year marks the beginning of the modern athletic program at Blinn.

The premier two-year college in Texas, Blinn’s academic transfer rate ranks No. 1 in the State of Texas. Additionally, Blinn has received historic recognition for community engagement as one of only six community colleges in the nation selected for recognition by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Blinn has been listed among the most affordable large community colleges in the nation by AffordableCollegesOnline.org and one of the top community colleges in the state by Schools.com, and according to data from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Blinn students who take 30 credit hours during the 2021-22 academic year will save 43% in tuition and fees compared to the average state university.

In 1940, the Marie Heineke Memorial Gymnasium opened and basketball began to flourish because it could now be played indoors and at night. The women’s basketball program began in 1978, followed by women’s softball in 1995 and volleyball in 1996.

Today, Blinn’s student athletes continue to distinguish themselves, both in intercollegiate competition and in the classroom. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Buccaneers compete in the Region XIV Athletic Conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. In 1995 and 1996, Blinn College made history by becoming the first college to win back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association football championships with 24 consecutive wins. Blinn added a third national title in 2006 following a perfect 12-0 season, followed by a fourth title in 2009 with an 11-1 record. In 2008, the Buccaneer volleyball team won its first national championship, finishing with a 33-2 record, followed by a second title in 2011 and back-to-back titles in 2013-2014.

The Buccaneers compete in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, and volleyball. Complementing the athletic teams are the Blinn Cheerleaders, the Buccaneer Treasures Dance Team and the Blinn College Marching Band.

Kruse Center - Volleyball and Basketball The 36,000-square-foot Kruse Center on the Blinn-Brenham Campus provides a facility the entire community can enjoy. Featuring an event arena, cardio room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, an indoor track, meeting and multi-purpose rooms, and a selfserve vending MicroMarket, the Kruse Center serves as home to the Buccaneer men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball teams, along with Blinn recreational sports.

The Kruse Center provides students and the community a high-quality space for general fitness, weightlifting, dance and yoga, kinesiology classes, and meetings. The arena also is used for high school playoff games and hosts camps during the summer months.

“This first-class facility will add vibrance and energy to Blinn’s campus community, helping to recruit and retain the high-achieving students who are the lifeblood of this institution,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District, at the facility’s 2017 grand opening.

The Kruse Family The Kruse Center was designed with the support of a generous gift from siblings Mildred Kruse Bridges, Evelyn Ann Kruse, Ed. Kruse and his wife Evelyn, and Howard Kruse and his wife Verlin in memory of their parents, E.F. and Bertha Kruse.

The Kruse family is involved in many civic endeavors in Brenham and throughout the state, and has been particularly supportive of Blinn College and Texas A&M University.

In 2011, the Kruses were major contributors to the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex, home to Blinn’s nationally renowned Agricultural Sciences Department. The family contributed to the state-of-the-art A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center that opened in 2010, and has donated to the College’s Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center, which hosts fine arts performances throughout the year. The Kruses have established endowed scholarships to help high-achieving students reach their career goals through a Blinn College education.

1. CUB STADIUM - FOOTBALL

The Buccaneers play their home games at Brenham ISD’s Cub Stadium, located at 1600 East Tom Green Street. Seating capacity is 6,300. The main press box on the home (west) side is air-conditioned. Visitors park on the south end of the stadium.

The field is an AstroTurf playing surface, new in 2021. The excellent drainage provides a great surface in all weather conditions.

The 25x14 foot Daktronics scoreboard was installed in 2010.

2. LEROY DREYER FIELD - BASEBALL

Built in 1988, Leroy Dreyer Field is one of the finest baseball facilities in the state and among the top junior college complexes in the nation.

Besides being home to the Bucs, it also has been the site of the TexasNew Mexico Junior College Coaches Association all-star games, the Texas-New Mexico Junior College state baseball tournament, the Region 14 tournament, and numerous Texas high school playoff games.

The dimensions of the natural turf field are: 325 foul lines, 355 power alleys and 375 straightaway center. Athletic field expert Floyd Perry rated the playing surface among the top 1 percent in all of college baseball.

The covered grandstand features seating for 665, a concession stand, restrooms, and an air-conditioned press box. The facility also houses home team training and locker rooms and coaches offices.

3. HOHLT PARK - SOFTBALL The Buccaneers began play on their softball field in 2001. Located at Hohlt Park on the north side of the city, the facility features a lighted field with a premier playing surface, all-weather tarp, covered seating, and a club house. In 2012, a new, modern scoreboard was added.

4. RANKIN FIELD AT HOHLT PARK MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Buccaneers play their home games at Rankin Field at Hohlt Park, located at 2425 North Park Street. The lighted facility features a Bermuda grass playing surface and seats up to 400 spectators in the bleachers on the north side of the field.

Covered dugouts for home and visiting teams are located on the north and south sides of the field, and the facility features a press box and the Blinn Field House. Parking is located to the east of the field.

Hohlt Park features 85 acres of land used for various sports and events and also is the home of Blinn College softball.

The field is named for the former Blinn coach who retired in 1986 after 28 years at the helm. He compiled a 653-249 record and had five national tournament appearances. In 1991, he was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2017, Dreyer was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame. In 1994, Dreyer retired as Blinn’s athletic director after holding the post for 35 years. His uniform number, 34, has been retired. In 2014, a new, modern scoreboard was added.

5/6. DOYLE COATNEY CENTER

The Doyle Coatney Center opened in April 2017, providing indoor practice space for the Buccaneer baseball and softball teams. It is one of the premier baseball/softball facilities in the State of Texas, providing numerous batting cages, an infield practice area, and space for our pitchers to hone their skills. It also houses a weight room and classroom. The facility was made possible by a generous gift from Doyle Coatney, a former member of Blinn’s football, basketball, baseball, and track teams.

WEIGHT ROOM

Blinn has a top-quality weight room that opened in 1992. The modern, 4,000-square-foot, air-conditioned weight room has more than 12,500 pounds of free weights available to all Blinn athletic teams for their weight training programs. In 2013, the weight room was updated with a new floor and updated equipment.

8/9. BRENHAM COUNTRY CLUB - MEN’S AND WOMEN’S GOLF The 18-hole golf course at Brenham Country Club is home to the Blinn College men’s and women’s golf teams. The Buccaneers practice and host tournaments at the par-72 course, which also features a 300-yard driving range, a well-equipped pro shop, and a golf professional on site. Brenham Country Club is located at 4107 Highway 105 in Brenham.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR SCOTT SCHUMACHER Scott Schumacher is in his 10th year as the Blinn College athletic director.

In 2020-21, Schumacher oversaw a Buccaneer athletic department that captured one national title in dance and had five teams earn trips to national tournaments. The Blinn volleyball, men’s golf, women’s golf, dance, and cheer teams competed at nationals, while the volleyball and men’s golf teams also won conference championships.

In addition, the Blinn volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, baseball, and softball teams made trips to Region XIV tournaments.

The Blinn dance team made history by claiming its eighth consecutive national title and third straight in Team Performance at the 2021 National Cheer Association & National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships. The dance team placed second in Pom Open and cheer team placed second in Advanced Small Coed in the junior college division.

The Blinn volleyball team finished fifth in the nation after earning a trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. The Buccaneers won the conference championship with a 12-1 record and concluded the season with a 27-3 overall record.

The Blinn men’s and women’s golf teams made history by claiming spots in the NJCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships. The men’s team finished 19th in the nation, while ranked 16th in the national poll. The women’s team finished 13th in the nation, while ranked 14th in the national poll. In addition, the men’s team won the Region XIV

Championship and Blinn’s Riley Simmons was named the Region XIV Tournament Champion.

Other highlights in 2020-21 included volleyball players Jayde Shelton, Loren Scott, and women’s basketball player Hailey Atwood earning NJCAA All-America honors, Shelton and Atwood being named Region XIV Players of the Year, Scott winning the Region XIV Setter of the Year Award, and Atwood earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Player of the Year honors. In addition, Shelton, Marco Rodriguez Jr. (men’s soccer), Hope Hillhouse (women’s soccer), and Dylan Theut (baseball) were named NJCAA Players of the Week.

In May, Blinn head softball coach Rick Church was inducted into the NJCAA Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2021. This prestigious honor was given to Church, who has accumulated 928 career wins, and currently ranks 14th in all-time softball wins in the NJCAA. Blinn head coaches Terry Gamble (volleyball), Jeff Jenkins (women’s basketball), and David Johnson (men’s golf) were named Region XIV Coaches of the Year.

A record 196 student-athletes were named to the spring athletic director’s honor roll and four Blinn student-athletes were named Atkinson Cup Award winners after maintaining perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA) throughout two years at Blinn.

Blinn has captured 42 national championships since 1987, including 16 national championships under Schumacher.

Schumacher also serves as the head men’s basketball coach. In 31 years as a junior college head coach, Schumacher has compiled a career record of 594-358. He ranks 14th in all-time wins among active men’s basketball coaches across 439 NJCAA programs. He has led three different junior college programs to conference championships and a top10 national ranking in the NJCAA polls. Schumacher is in his 35th year coaching basketball at the collegiate level and 13th year as an NJCAA athletic director.

ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JAKE GORDON Jake Gordon enters his third year as the Buccaneers’ assistant athletic director and his eighth season with an NJCAA athletic department.

Gordon returned to Blinn College after serving two seasons as the assistant athletic director at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio.

Gordon is in charge of eligibility for all Blinn athletic teams, game day operations, and live streaming all home games on the Blinn College Athletics YouTube channel.

While at Lakeland, Gordon assisted the athletic director with the day-today operations of the athletic department, eligibility, and the Athletic and Fitness Center (AFC). He was in charge of athletic communications, administered the website, promoted the College’s seven NJCAA Division II sports programs, administered an academic tracking system for student-athletes, oversaw the academic retention program for student athletes, and held event management duties.

Prior to Lakeland, Gordon got his start in a collegiate athletic department

as Blinn's communication and sports information specialist. He served in the role for three seasons. While at Blinn, Gordon was instrumental in promoting the accomplishments of an athletic department that won a volleyball national championship in 2014, four national titles in cheer and dance, and made three national tournament appearances in volleyball, women’s basketball, and softball.

His duties as a sports information specialist included producing press release for all athletic events, taking photos at athletic competitions and events, interviewing coaches and student-athletes, administering the athletic website and social media sites, and collaborating with local and national media to help the College gain positive attention.

Prior to working at Blinn, Gordon worked at various newspapers in the state of Utah, including The Vernal Express, Salt Lake Tribune, Tooele Transcript-Bulletin, and Deseret News. While at the Vernal Express, he served as the sports editor, covering high school and local sports for Uintah County, designing sports pages, and maintaining the sports section of the website.

He is a native of Tooele, Utah, and received his bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Utah and Master of Business Administration in sports administration from Saint Leo (Fla.) University.

Jake and his wife, Tiffany, have one daughter, Lucy, and one son, Andrew.

The Bucs’ athletic student success coach provides academic, educational, and personal development support for more than 300 Blinn student-athletes, trainers, and managers.

DR. KENNETH MASENDA Assistant Director of Academic Advising

Dr. Kenneth Masenda joined the Blinn College District as an athletic student success coach in January 2017. His duties include advising each of Blinn’s NJCAA athletic programs as well as Blinn’s athletic training program.

Dr. Masenda serves as an adjunct instructor in the Humanities Department. In March 2021, he became the Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Counseling on the Brenham Campus.

Prior to his arrival at Blinn, Dr. Masenda was an academic advisor for athletics at Tyler Junior College.

In his six years at Tyler, he oversaw academic advising for all 12 of Tyler’s NJCAA athletic programs as well as advising duties for Tyler’s athletic training program.

He also taught as an adjunct instructor for the college and assisted in other duties with the departments of advising, admissions, and the registrar’s office.

Dr. Masenda earned a doctorate in higher education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in December 2015. His dissertation was entitled “Academic Advising for Student Athletes at Two-Year Colleges.” He also holds a master’s degree from A&M-Commerce, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, and an associate degree from Navarro College. He is a native of Denton, Texas.

The Learning Center is equipped with state-of-the-art computers and academic resources to assist student-athletes in their studies.

On average, student-athletes spend 4-5 hours in the academic facilities each week, with tutors on hand at all times to help with any subject.

Seven Blinn Athletic Programs named NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year The NJCAA has recognized the Blinn College volleyball, softball, men’s golf, women’s soccer, baseball, women’s golf, and men’s soccer teams for academic achievement.

All seven teams were named 2020-21 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year in their respective sports after maintaining a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better throughout the academic year.

The volleyball team posted a 3.57 GPA, the softball team posted a 3.48 GPA, the men’s golf team posted a 3.36 GPA, the women’s soccer team posted a 3.35 GPA, the baseball team posted a 3.24 GPA, and the women’s golf team and men’s soccer team posted a 3.01 GPA. In addition, 61 Blinn athletes were named to the NJCAA AllAmerica team for maintaining a GPA of 3.60 or higher.

ACADEMIC HONORS The Atkinson Cup

In 1999, the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association established the Dr. James H. Atkinson Cup in memory of the former coach, athletic director, and president for his contributions to Blinn College and Buccaneer athletics.

The Cup is based on academic achievement and honors the sophomore student-athlete with the highest grade point average in college-level courses with a minimum of 48 transferable hours.

The Blinn College District has named a record four studentathletes the winners of the 2021 Dr. James H. Atkinson Cup after they maintained the highest cumulative grade point average in the athletic department.

Blinn dance team member Jamia Smith (Houston), women’s basketball player Hailey Atwood (Austin), men’s soccer player Ethan Unger (Frisco), and softball player Emily Murphy (Round Rock) maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA) throughout two years at Blinn.

“The athletic department is excited to honor these four exceptional student-athletes,” said Scott Schumacher, Athletic Director.

“To maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average over two years while participating in athletics takes extraordinary dedication. The future is very bright for these student-athletes.”

Smith helped the Blinn dance team earn its eighth straight national championship at the 2021 National Cheer Association & National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships. Blinn took first place in Team Performance in the junior college division with a score of 93.96 over McLennan Community College (91.9) to earn Blinn’s 42nd NJCAA national championship. Next year, Smith will continue her academic and athletic career at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Atwood helped the Blinn women’s basketball team post an impressive 43-13 record in two years and lead the Buccaneers to the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament as a nationally ranked team in each of the last two seasons.

Atwood was named a first-team All-American, Region XIV Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year after finishing eighth in the nation with 443 total points in 24 games. Atwood signed with the University of Texas at San Antonio to continue her academic and athletic career.

Unger helped lead the Blinn men’s soccer team to the Region XIV Tournament appearances in each of the last two seasons. In two years at Blinn, Unger played 31 games, started 27, and recorded five goals and nine assists. As a freshman, he led the Buccaneers with seven assists. This season, Unger tied for second on the team and seventh in the region with four goals and put up a .444 shooting percentage.

Murphy earned second-team all-region and first-team all-conference honors after helping lead the Blinn softball team to the Region XIV Tournament this season. In two years at Blinn, Murphy had 38 hits, scored 15 runs and drove in 17 runs in 117 at-bats. This season, she tied for fourth on the team with 35 hits, posted the fourth highest batting average (.354), and shared the team lead with 10 walks.

Sponsored by the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association, the Atkinson Cup was founded in 2000 to honor the sophomore student-athlete with the highest GPA in a minimum of 48 transferable hours. The award is named for the late Dr. James H. Atkinson, former Blinn athletic director and president.

THE BUCCANEER MARCHING BAND The Blinn College Buccaneer Band performs throughout the fall to support the Buccaneer football team at all home football games and even select away games. Adding to the halftime show’s colorful pageantry is the Blinn College Color Guard, performing exciting routines to the sounds of the Buccaneer band.

Music majors and non-music majors alike participate in Blinn’s marching and concert bands. In fact, approximately 30% of Blinn’s band are music majors. Band students come from high schools of all sizes from across the state.

In addition to football games, the Buccaneer band performs at exhibition performances, campus concerts, and conducts a concert tour each spring. The band also hosts and performs at the annual Buccaneer Marching Band Festival during the fall semester.

The Buccaneer Band is part of the Blinn College Music Department, which offers small classes, one-on-one attention, practical learning, and easily accessible faculty so that students are actively engaged in a superior learning environment. Blinn offers a wide range of instrumental studies, including piano, brass ensemble, woodwind ensemble, jazz band, percussion ensemble, and a steel drum band.

HEAD MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SOCCER COACH MICHAEL MCBRIDE Michael McBride enters his third season as the Blinn College head men’s and women’s soccer coach.

He has coached at the collegiate level for 21 years.

The Blinn women’s team concluded the 2020-21 season with a programbest 6-3 record and claimed a spot in the NJCAA Region XIV Women’s Soccer Tournament for the first time in the program’s three-year history.

The Blinn men’s team finished the 2020-21 season with a 6-8 record (5-7 in conference) and claimed a spot in the NJCAA Region XIV Men’s Soccer Tournament for the third time in its three-year history. In addition, the women’s and men’s soccer teams were named 2020-21 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year.

McBride holds a 248-139-21 record (.641 winning percentage) as a men's and women's soccer coach. He has earned 13 coach of the year honors and 11 of his players have moved on to play professionally, including one player who played for Canadian men’s national team (senior team).

Prior to Blinn, McBride spent three seasons as the head women's soccer coach at Nicholls State University. Under McBride's direction, the Colonels earned the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award in 2016, 2017, and 2018; earned the highest grade-point average in the 21-year history of the program; and clocked the highest annual community engagement hours in program history.

Prior to Nicholls State, McBride spent 16 seasons (2001-2016) as the head men's soccer coach for Notre Dame College. For eight years (20092016), he also served as the college's Assistant Athletic Director for Community Engagement.

McBride started the men's soccer program at Notre Dame College in 2001 and helped it transition from the NAIA level to the NCAA Division II ranks. Under his direction, the Falcons posted a 213-76-16 overall record (.737), the highest winning percentage in program history.

McBride's team won the American Mideast North Division championship in its second season (2002), then won four more division championships (2004-07), three conference titles (2008, 2009, and 2010), and made four NAIA National Championship appearances (2005, 2008, 2009, and 2010). In 2010, McBride guided Notre Dame to a 23-1-0 record and the program's first National Championship Final.

He has coached 25 All-Americans, 23 All-Academic athletes, two American Midwest Conference (AMC) North Players of the Year, an AMC Freshman of the Year, an AMC Player of the Year, two Mountain East Conference MEC) Players of the Year, an NAIA National Player of the Year (2010), and an Independents Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) National Player of the Year (2011).

Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, McBride was a Professional Footballers Association Community Coach from 1992-94. In

addition, he was an assistant coach at Walsh University from 1997-2000.

Prior to his coaching career with Walsh, he was a scholarship athlete for the Cavaliers from 1995-1998. During his playing career, he earned AllAMC and All-Region honors and was an NAIA All-American nominee. Off the field, McBride was an NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete.

McBride holds his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Senior "A" License, the United Soccer Coaches of America (USC) Premier Diploma (distinguished pass), Level 1, 2 & 3 Goalkeeping Diplomas and Director of Coaching Diploma. In addition, McBride also earned both a Preliminary and Preparatory Badge from the English Football Association.

He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education and a Master's in Education from Walsh. He earned a second master's degree in education from Notre Dame College in spring 2013.

McBride's wife, Becky, is Blinn's Vice Chancellor for Student Services.

They have two daughters, Roisin and Alannah.

SOCCER ASSISTANTS ALEXANDRIA JACKSON

Alexandria Jackson enters her third season as a Blinn College men’s and women’s soccer assistant coach. In 2020-21, she was named to the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 Program, a year-long education and mentorship program designed to support up-and-coming members of the coaching profession who are 30 years of age or younger.

During her first season with the team in 2019, the Blinn men’s team finished the 2019 season with a program-best 10-7-1 overall record. The women’s team finished with a 6-9-1 overall record, 4-7-1 conference record, and received a 2019 College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award from the United Soccer Coaches Association.

The women’s soccer team also was named a 2019-20 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year for maintaining a 3.15 GPA. Prior to Blinn, Jackson served as head coach of the Phoenix Rising club soccer teams. She oversaw four teams that finished the season with records above .500 and made Arizona State Cup appearances. In addition, all members of the U17 team signed letters of intents to 20 NCAA Division I and II teams.

Prior to Rising Phoenix, Jackson spent five seasons coaching the Waldorf University women’s soccer team. From 2014-2016, she served as an assistant coach and was named head coach in 2017.

She helped lead the Warriors to North Star Conference Tournament appearances from 2014 through 2017. While there, she coached 30 all-conference players, five Champions of Character, and 35 scholar athletes.

Jackson was a four-year collegiate soccer player for NCAA Division I Northwestern State University. As a freshman, she led the team in game-winning goals (4) and helped lead the Lady Demons to a conference championship. As a sophomore, Jackson started 10 games while logging 700 minutes. In her junior season, Jackson appeared in 16 matches and started 15 times to accumulate more than 1,000 minutes of play. As a senior, Jackson started and played in all 19 matches for a total of 1,715 minutes. Playing a pivotal defensive role, she assisted on two goals. She was the team captain in 2012 and 2013 and a four-time scholar athlete for the Southland Conference.

Jackson played professional soccer for the St. Catharine’s Jets in Ontario, Canada, and FFC Montabaur in Germany.

Jackson graduated from Northwestern State in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health and exercise science. In 2016, she earned a Master of Arts in organizational leadership from Columbia Southern University. She also holds her National Diploma, Advanced National Diploma, and U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) C License.

RUDY ROEDIGER

Rudy Roediger enters his first season as a Blinn College men’s and women’s soccer assistant coach.

He brings approximately 20 years of coaching and scouting experience, including 10 years in the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA. Prior to Blinn, he served as an assistant coach for Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., for one season. In 2021, Roediger helped the Golden Grizzlies to the most Horizon League wins in program history while producing the program’s first Horizon League Player of the Year and first Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy semifinalist, Noah Jensen.

Prior to Oakland, Roediger assisted with the start of the men’s soccer program and served as an admissions counselor at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. In 2018, Roediger became the only full-time head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa. Prior to his tenure at Lackawanna, Roediger spent three seasons at the helm of Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga. The Fighting Tigers posted a 10-8-0 record in 2015, an eight-win improvement from the previous season, which made Andrew the second most-improved win/loss NJCAA Division I men’s soccer program in the nation that season.

In 2013-14, Roediger served as the head recruiter and assistant men’s soccer coach at Montreat College (N.C.). For his work with international students off the pitch, Montreat College Admissions Department awarded Roediger its Servant Leadership Award.In 2012, Roediger helped guide the Bluefield College (Va.) women to the third most-improved win/loss team in the NAIA. Roediger earned his first collegiate coaching at Bethany College. Roediger became the 1994 NCAA Division III National Champion’s recruiting assistant, where he helped secure two players, Russell Gaither and Cameron Ward, who would go on to earn All-PAC honors in their freshman season.

In addition to his collegiate coaching career, Roediger spent time coaching in the Antra Lyga, where he became the first American to coach professional soccer in Lithuania in 2017. Roediger has served as a national team scout for the British Virgin Islands since 2015.

Roediger had a two-year stint as a coach at South Webster High School (Ohio) and spent two years as a coach and athletic director at Piketon High School in Piketon (Ohio). He also has experience coaching club and Olympic Development Program across the country. He has coached over 100 high school, youth, and ODP players who earned NCAA and NAIA scholarships.

A graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, Roediger was a part of the 1999 team that won the All-Mid-Central Conference Tournament championship before losing in the NAIA regional final. IWU finished fourth at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament.

Roediger holds coaching and scouting licenses from United Soccer Coaches, United States Soccer Federation, and the Football Association of England.

HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH TERRY GAMBLE Terry Gamble enters his fourth season as the Blinn College head volleyball coach with 25 years of experience coaching at the collegiate level. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning three NJCAA volleyball championships and three NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.

In his career, he compiled a 957-323 record (.748 winning percentage).

Gamble ranks first in all-time wins among active coaches in the NJCAA with 828. In addition, he ranks sixth in all-time wins in the NJCAA. Under Gamble’s direction, the seventh-ranked Buccaneers made their first trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship since 2015 last spring, where they finished in fifth place. After claiming the Region XIV conference title with a 12-1 record and finishing second in the Region XIV tournament, Blinn went 3-1 in the national tournament. The Buccaneers upset fourth-ranked Utah State University Eastern and second-ranked Odessa College before wrapping up the season with a 27-3 record.

Jayde Shelton was named a first-team All-American, Region XIV Player of the Year, and named to the NJCAA all-tournament team as a freshman, while Loren Scott was named a second-team All-American and Region XIV Setter of the Year as a freshman. Gamble was named the Region XIV Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons with the Buccaneers, while five players earned first-team all-conference honors. In addition, the volleyball team led Blinn’s athletic programs with a 3.62 team grade point average (GPA).

Blinn finished the 2019 season ranked No. 19 in the nation with a 29-8 overall record. In 2019, four Buccaneers were awarded all-conference honors and five moved on to four-year programs to continue their playing careers. Essence Clerkley was named the Region XIV All-Conference Freshman of the Year and the Buccaneers were named a 2019-20 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year after posting a 3.21 GPA. The 2018 Buccaneers posted a 29-10 record and finished the season ranked No. 17 in the nation. Blinn went undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 record for the Region XIV South Zone Division Championship. After an outstanding first season at Blinn, which included his 900th career win, Gamble was named the Region XIV South Zone Division Coach of the Year.

In 2018, six Buccaneers were awarded all-conference honors, two received all-Region XIV Tournament honors, and four moved on to four-year universities to continue their playing careers. Shelby Sheets was named a NJCAA All-American, AVCA Two-Year College All-American, and the Region

XIV All-Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, and Roxanne Morris was named the Region XIV All-Conference Setter of the Year. Blinn was named a 2018-2019 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year for maintaining a team grade point average of 3.0 or better throughout the academic year.

Gamble came to Blinn after four seasons as Jacksonville State University’s head coach, where he took the team to three conference tournaments.

Gamble spent four seasons at McNeese State University, one season as the head coach at the former Midland Lutheran College, now Midland University, and spent one year as a first assistant coach at Texas Tech in 2009.

A majority of Gamble’s coaching career has been spent at the junior college level. From 2005 to 2008, Gamble served as the head coach at Iowa Western Community College. In 2006, Gamble was voted the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Coach of the Year after guiding the Reivers to the NJCAA national championship that year. He also was named the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year and coached the AVCA Player of the Year in 2006. He took IWCC to a seventh-place finish at the National Championships in 2007 and a fourth-place finish in 2008.

Gamble had a successful run as head coach at St. Clair County Community College from 1999 to 2004, where he led the Skippers to national championship titles in 2000 and 2004 and to a third-place finish in 2001.

His first coaching stint was at Mott Community College from 1995 to 1998.

In 1998, he led Mott to a ninth-place finish at the National Championships.

Gamble had a Top 20 National Ranking in 15 of his 16 junior college seasons and also was elected to the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame and Iowa Western Sports Hall of Fame.

Gamble’s coaching honors also include three District C Coach of the Year awards, three District D Coach of the Year awards, one District 8 Coach of the Year, seven Regional Coach of the Year honors, and eight Conference Coach of the Year accolades. He has won eight regional championships, six state championships, and 14 conference championships, and has coached 17 All-Americans, 20 Academic All-Americans, three NJCAA National Players of the Year, 18 all-tournament players, 20 regional players of the year, 37 all-region tournament players, 14 conference players of the year, 38 all-state/all-region players, 52 all-conference and 31 all-conference honorable mention players. He also was selected the president of the NJCAA Coaches Association in 2007.

Gamble graduated from the U.S. Sports Academy. He was an All-American setter and helped win a national championship in 1997 with Western Michigan’s club team.

Gamble lives in Brenham with his wife, Krista, along with their three puppies, Thor, Loki, and Juco. He has three children, Kyle, Kristi, and Kody, and two stepchildren, Austin and Kourtlyn, along with five grandchildren.

Anna Aschenbeck enters her first season as a Blinn College volleyball assistant coach.

Aschenbeck has spent the last three years at Amarillo Xtreme as a head coach for ages 11-18. In 2019, she was the head coach at San Jacinto Christian Academy (Amarillo), where she led the Lady Patriots to the second round of playoffs.

Aschenbeck lettered in all four years at Bushland High School and helped the Lady Falcons win the 2013 state championship before starting her collegiate volleyball career. She was recruited by Arkansas State, Wyoming, New Mexico State, Houston Baptist, and San Angelo University before signing with Northern Colorado University as an outside hitter and middle blocker.

Ashenbeck spent her sophomore and junior seasons as a middle blocker at Angelo State University, where she helped lead the team in kills and blocks. She finished her volleyball career at West Texas A&M University, where she also received her bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in education.

She resides in Brenham with her husband, Grant.

BLINNPROUD NO. 7 BUCCANEERS PLACE FIFTH AT NATIONALS The seventh-ranked Blinn College volleyball team earned fifth place at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship after upsetting second-ranked Odessa College in the West Plains Civic Center. With the win, the Buccaneers ended the year with a 27-3 record.
