Che’ McFerrin, Reliant an NRG Company 2013 Supplier Diversity Champion
C
he’ McFerrin is the Supplier Diversity Coordinator and Purchasing Specialist with NRG Energy, Inc. She joined NRG with over eight years of experience in minority and women business development that includes both the private and government sectors. In her current role, she assists minority, women and small business enterprises in maximizing their opportunities to participate in NRG’s procurement and sourcing processes. She also oversees the management of the company’s procurement card purchases. Prior to joining NRG in 2011, Che’ has been noted for her role in the development of Supplier Diversity initiatives at Halliburton where she was an integral part of the program after its restructuring in 2006. She was instrumental in building innovative strategies that increased diverse supplier utilization for small businesses. She also educated and mobilized Halliburton’s 50

employees as advocates, garnered support for business development efforts to increase profitability and customer satisfaction; aligned supplier diversity with global sourcing and procurement initiatives; and established a defined metrics and measure system to chart progress toward world-class standards. Che’s professional efforts have been recognized by various organizations throughout the nation. Some of those accolades included being named The 2010 Best in the Decade - Supporting Stars in the MBNUS, a Minority Business News Magazine. She was named as one of three people who were relentless in their dedication and the ability to uphold and maintain a Supplier Diversity Programs during transitions. Her well-rounded career includes her work as a Certification Specialist at the Port of Houston Authority, and a Supplier Diversity Specialist at the Houston Inde-
pendent School District. She has also worked for several Fortune 500 companies, including Continental Airlines and Federal Express. Che’ earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and serves on the Houston Citizen Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors. Of course, the most important aspect of her life is her family — her husband, daughter — Bryce and their maltese-yorkshire terrier.
