Sharon has extended her expertise to penning her memoir and becoming an author of “Turning Hurt Into Purpose.” This true life story was written after she lost her entire immediate family within a 10 year timeframe to various illnesses and having to return to Florida to bury everyone because she was the sole survivor. This memoir is based on spiritual, physical, mental and professional experiences of survival, growth and knowledge based on positive outcomes as a result of her struggles. Sharon and her family attend The Fountain of Praise. Believing in the value of family, Sharon has been married to Will Phillips Jr. for 24 years; they have one daughter, 10 grandchildren, 3 stepsons, and a great grandchild (“they are truly the Wind Beneath Her Wings”). While recuperating from major surgery, Sharon continued to make a difference in the community by working with local Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee and her staff and Congressman Al Green to assist families during tragic and difficult situations. She continues to serve and financially support various boards, such as the Chinese Community Center, Vietnamese Cultural Association, Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation and the Board of Directors for Metamorphosis. She had the privilege of being honored by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee of the Eighteenth Congressional District; the Congresswoman says Sharon was “Honored for her underlying efforts in the community and her commitment and hard work and dedication to helping others …” Sharon Phillips’ life story embodies the term “servant leadership.”
