Wedoasmuchworkin-houseaspossibleandcontractoutmuchofthe pruning.Pruningandtreecareisanever-endingprocessontheproperty.Once thetreeshavebeenremoved,wegointogrindthestumpsandbackfillthehole sowecanbereadyforsodpreparationcomespring.
Priortothesubzerotemperatures,wealsowentoutand watered any newly planted evergreen trees and shrubs.Smallsnowtotalsdonotalwaysprovide adequatemoisturefortheseplantsinthewinter,especiallythosethatareinthe southernexposedareasoftheproperty.
Oncetemperaturesdroppedandwefinishedtreecare,westartedtomoveto insidework.Whetherweare organizing the shop tostarttheyearoutright, cleaning up and inventorying supplies for upcoming orders, or staining benches, we always have plenty of items to keep busy this time of year.As Iwritethis,someexcitedstaffmembersarealsofinalizingtheirdesignandbuild fortheIceCone!
Therecentfrigidtemperaturescansometimesbehardtobear,butultimatelywe arepleasedwiththerecentsnowonthepropertycombinedwiththeselowtemps. Itreducesourconcernforicedamagearoundthepropertywhenitstayscoldafter snowfall.
Sincewehavelargecollardamsaroundthegreens,theyareunabletosurfacedrain properly.Lowertemperatureshelpreducethethawingandfreezecycleweoften getinDenver.Anotheradvantagewehavethisyearisthedrymonthof December.Thefactthatweknowallourshortgrasswasopenwithoutsnowand icecoverageisverybeneficialbecauseour“iceclock”hasn’tstartedyet.
OnceweenterMarch,ifwehaven’tseencertainareasofturfduetosnowand potentialicecoverage,wewillstartremovingsnowfromcertainareas.Awet, heavysnow,orwarmspellfollowedbyanothersnoweventmayexpediteour removalprocessandcauseustostartinFebruary.

Additionally, practicing your chipping isoneofthebestthingsyoucandofor yourshortgame,ANDYOURFULLSWING.Thisisbecauseitgivesyouagreat understandingofwhattheclubisdoingthroughthehittingzone,orthelower halfofthegolfswing.So,findapingpongballorfoamgolfball,andhitsome chipshotswhereveryoucaninthehouse.Thiswillgiveyouexcellentcontrolof theclubfaceasyougetreadyforthe2025season!
Finally, let's get our body ready for golf. Findawaytodosomesimple flexibilityandmobilityexercises.Youcandothiswithnothingbutyourown bodyweight.Ifyoumakeitahabittostretchandgetmoreflexiblethisyear,your golfswingwillhaveamuchbetterchanceofbeingmoreconsistent.
TheprimarydutyoftheHandicapCommitteeisto "enhance the enjoyment of the game of golf and to give as many players as possible the opportunity to… compete, or play a casual round, with anyone else on a fair and equal basis."
