Work Truck Solutions and Ford Pro Collaborate to Power Commercial Vehicle ‘Locator’
THEME:
Having recently returned from Work Truck Week (WTW), I was reminded about how much the commercial vehicle ecosystem is truly a community. Walking the show floor, having conversations with so many people - from commercial vehicle dealers, to upfitters, to finance providers, to OEMs and many, many more - definitely reiterated how much we’re all in this together. And beyond that thought, it also emphasized the impact of forging relationships because they are at the center of what enables us to build toward a better future in the industry in which we’re all passionate.
If you didn’t attend WTW, I’d encourage you to find a way to go next year - it’s worth the investment of both your dollars and your time. Beyond WTW, you should also look for other ways to connect with colleagues across the space, such as in-person shows or meetings, as well as virtual ones like the just completed Commercial Vehicle Business Summit. I can tell you I almost always come back from shows with all types of new ideas, and just as importantly, numerous new connections, all of which help me build my “community” and paths toward the future.
A couple real-life examples that stress the importance of cultivating our commercial vehicle community include Scelzi having one of their enhanced service body trucks in the Ford Pro booth on the show floor in Indianapolis, or Will Brogan’s article about the power of partnerships (and you can read more about both of these in this issue).
And finally, one more example that truly highlights the uniqueness of the commercial vehicle ecosystem. Even though it may seem a bit counterintuitive, Caleb Pontius from Rockport Commercial Vehicles shared something with me at WTW that definitely resonated. He was talking about a van body manufacturer meeting that occurs on Tuesday every year at Work Truck Week and he specifically mentioned the collaboration that takes place in this meeting, even though it is composed of companies that are competitors throughout the year. They get together to talk about challenges they’re facing and opportunities to do things better. It shouldn’t be a shock to anyone reading here, but connecting with ALL types of people, including competitors, doesn’t happen in other industries - it’s something that makes our industry so different and special.
Continue to seek out ways to further your connections and build YOUR future.

Strategic partnerships are essential in the commercial vehicle industry, driving efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction. Candy McCollum, Business Development Manager for Comvoy, and Alan Levy, Founder of Crestline Auto Transport, recently shared insights during a discussion about how these partnerships are shaping the commercial vehicle community.
Auto transport is an integral part of the commercial vehicle ecosystem. From manufacturers to fleet managers, every entity relies on effective transport solutions to keep their businesses moving. “It doesn't matter if it's the manufacturer, the chassis manufacturer, the body, the dealer, the end user, fleet managers— it has to get moved”, McCollum pointed out.
Crestline Auto Transport has built its foundation on collaboration, acting as an extension of its clients’ sales, operations, and logistics teams. “We find ourselves as a key and critical component to help move product along and to help small businesses, mid-sized businesses and large accounts generate revenue and do their business by getting the finished product to them,” Levy explained. By forming strong partnerships with dealers, manufacturers, and service providers, Crestline enhances the efficiency of commercial vehicle transportation.
In an industry where efficiency is paramount, partnerships create a smoother experience for the end user. “We have the depth and the breadth of experience
and understanding of the landscape that is commercial and fleet and auto transport as a part of the overall setting and environment within commercial fleet,” Levy said.
By working closely with all parties within the commercial ecosystem, Crestline aligns its transport services with the needs of commercial vehicle operators. Their expertise in moving upfitted and modified vehicles adds significant value, helping businesses acquire the exact vehicles they need without logistical challenges.
The commercial vehicle industry has evolved from a localized market to a highly interconnected nationwide network. Historically, customers would visit local dealerships to inspect and purchase vehicles. Today, digital tools have expanded the marketplace, enabling businesses to source commercial vehicles from anywhere in the country. With this shift, reliable transport services have become a crucial component of the process, ensuring that vehicles reach their destinations efficiently, transparently, and securely.
Crestline’s real-time transport quotes, along with their integration on platforms like Work Truck Solutions’ dealer sites and the national marketplace, Comvoy. com make this transition seamless. Dealerships serving businesses, or business shoppers, can calculate transport costs, leading to faster decision-making and smoother operations. Levy observed, “We've gone from an environment where customers, even dealers alike, were kicking the tires at dealerships and really getting the look and feel of a vehicle – Now it's ‘clicking’ the tires.”
Transparency in vehicle transport is essential, and partnerships help businesses to have the data they need. “These are very specific vehicles that, right there on the (landing) page have a complete description of it with a visual as well, so the client has a clear understanding of exactly what he or she is looking for. And then being able to couple that with a reputable provider that could actually transport it from point A to point B to help with the transaction and get that [vehicle purchase process] deeper down the funnel,” Levy emphasized.
By partnering with Work Truck Solutions, which combines real-time transport quotes with detailed vehicle data, businesses can streamline the buying process and ensure their operations run smoothly. “It opens up a lot of doors, and knowledge is power. What I've known from years of experience with Work Truck Solutions is that they offer and provide so much education and awareness to the community that it really makes the purchasing process and the opportunities for small, mid-size and larger businesses to grow that much easier,” Levy concluded.
As the commercial vehicle industry continues to evolve, so too will the role of partners grow. The ability to efficiently move specialized vehicles across the country is more critical than ever. With companies like Crestline leading the way in innovation and service, the industry can be assured of the support for continued growth and efficiency.
Levy’s insights underscore the transformative power of collaboration in commercial auto transport. By fostering partnerships, embracing digital tools, and strengthening the community, Crestline Auto Transport is not just delivering vehicles—they’re helping to deliver success.
Success in the fleet and commercial industry isn’t built in isolation—it’s forged through collaboration, shared knowledge, and strong relationships. Whether you’re a dealership leader, a salesperson, an upfitter, or a tech provider, the reality is clear: we are stronger together.
Over the years, we’ve seen first-hand how partnerships drive innovation, improve customer experiences, and open doors to opportunities that no one could achieve alone, yours truly included, as Commercial Truck Training’s acquisition by One Nexus has set our efforts on a trajectory that was only previously possible in pipedreams. So, as we view the impact of our industry partnerships, one thing stands out—the value of a trusted community working toward a common goal.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside an incredible group of industry partners—from those who have hosted, presented, or sponsored our Ultimate Boot Camps to the professionals who have shared their expertise. Every collaboration reinforces the importance of relationships in this industry.
As things evolve in 2025, we are excited about what’s to come. The connections each of us build and the new opportunities on the horizon remind us all just how fortunate we are to work with people we trust, respect, and genuinely enjoy being around.
This side of the industry, for as long as I have been in it, has always been about establishing and enhancing relationships. If that changes, we’ll be at the forefront of training the change, but I’m not holding my breath!
For those in sales, the importance of industry partnerships cannot be overstated. If you haven’t yet built strong relationships with key players in your market, now is the time. Surround yourself with professionals who bring new insights, complementary skills, and a shared commitment to success. Events like the NTEA Work Truck Show last month are ideal for efforts like that!
One of the most exciting aspects of this industry is its ingenuity. Creativity isn’t just about innovation— it’s about recognizing the strengths of others and integrating them into a shared vision for success.
Upfitters design solutions that make work trucks safer, more functional, and better suited to real-world applications. Sales professionals develop creative ways to build trust—whether it’s through a personalized approach, a thoughtful follow-up, or even something as simple as a well-placed candy dish at a reception desk.
Technology partners continue to refine and expand the tools that help
dealerships connect with customers, manage inventory, and streamline processes.
We don’t have to do it all alone—we just have to know who to call. The best professionals in this industry aren’t just experts in their own space; they’re connectors who understand that success is a shared effort.
And if you ever need a reminder that opportunity is everywhere, just take a moment to observe the vehicles at a local gas station tomorrow morning. You’ll likely see a dozen-plus upfitted work trucks in a single parking lot— each one representing a business that needs the right solutions, tools, and people to help them operate efficiently. That’s why we do what we do.
I love that this industry is built on genuine connections. Our industry thrives on that. Many of you laugh at the running joke that “We all got into fleet and commercial by accident, and when we left, we found our way back.” But there’s truth in it. People stay in this business because they find a community that feels like home
Publications like this one and various industry associations help us stay connected, push each other to improve, and work toward a stronger, more collaborative future for fleet and commercial. It’s not just about individual success—it’s about ensuring the entire industry thrives.
For me, personally, I’m grateful to have found my way back to this community once again.
One of the most rewarding parts of leading the trainings we conduct is seeing how different dealerships and teams tackle challenges. Every organization has a unique approach, but the most successful ones have one thing in common: a commitment to learning and adapting.
Some of my favorite conversations happen when someone reaches out and says,
“That one thing from training—that’s what really helped me.”
That’s why we end our newsletters with some version of a simple yet powerful statement:
“We’re here to help.”
Because, at the end of the day, our purpose is to equip you with the knowledge, tools, and connections you need to succeed. It helps you, and the greater community of commercial and fleet.
If you’ve made it this far, I’d say you’re exactly the kind of avid learner who makes this industry what it is. And for that, I thank you.
These new crane bodies complete our hardworking lineup capable of handling all your lifting needs. Equipped with essential features and compatible with most leading cranes, these four crane bodies deliver a lifting capacity ranging from 11,500 to 78,000 ft.lbs. And, they’re backed by our national distribution network for upfitting, service, parts and accessories, so you can keep your business running at its best. It’s everything you need to start picking up more work.
We are often fascinated with the promise of futuristic sports cars and “concept” vehicles that bear only a faint resemblance to today’s models. Sometimes we become so obsessed with thinking about the long-term future that we fail to appreciate the achievements of today – until we see them up close.
Such was the case at last month’s NTEA Work Truck Show, where a visit to the Ford booth allowed visitors to see the latest in state-of-the-art truck body design. Scelzi Enterprises was proud to display one of their newest enhanced service body trucks, fully loaded with the latest in work truck technology.
Featured in the Ford booth at the show:
1. An 11-foot Scelzi Service Crane Body
• LED work lights that work on all corners, in the cargo area, and even in the compartments
• Perforated cab protector
• Polyurea-lined cargo floor for non-slip safety
• 24-inch rear work deck with vise stand
• Class 5 receiver hitch
• Scelzi roller drawers with “Press-down, Pull-out” operation
• Patented Scelzi Electronic Master Locking System that locks all compartments from the truck ignition key/FOB
• Crane reinforced body frame on the passenger side, and an AutoCrane EHC-32
• Enpak A30GBW (by Miller) welder/generator/air compressor/battery charger
2. A 2024 FORD F-350 chassis cab, 84 CA, fully loaded with Ford’s integrated VIS 2.0 System
The external features of this truck body are impressive enough that Ford booth visitors were giddy just to walk around and appreciate the top-tier caliber quality features. But when they got to the cab and could observe a brief demo of the VIS system, their smiles grew even larger. The VIS system helps upfitters like Scelzi seamlessly integrate their equipment in one place without most of the frustrations they typically experience on accessory-heavy truck bodies.
“I don’t claim to understand all the technology,” states President Mike Scelzi, “but I can appreciate how well the VIS system simplifies the operations of a featurerich truck body like ours. And our engineers tell me that once they played with the programming interface a little bit, they really love using it.”
The VIS system is not just a time-saver for truck body upfitters. The system also helps end users by moving more of the controls to the cab’s digital dashboard screen. “This is a huge leap forward in user-friendliness for the truck body owner,” states Scott Martzen, one of Scelzi’s in-house experts on the system. “I have spent the past two years collaborating with the Ford team on the VIS system, and it has completely transformed how we approach upfits. The system simplifies integration by providing direct access to chassis CAN signals, eliminating the need for additional modules or complex wiring. This not only streamlines the installation process but also gives us the ability to implement advanced safety features more efficiently. The inclusion of soft switches within the factory interface is another gamechanger—it allows us to customize controls without additional hardware, reducing complexity and improving reliability. With these capabilities, we’re able to deliver upfits that are not only more efficient but also safer and more intuitive for the end user.”
The Ford VIS 2.0 is just the latest chapter in work truck tech development, with plenty more enhancements to come. At Scelzi Enterprises, it is one more opportunity to help build the best solutions for their customers that are humanly possible. “We are nowhere close to being done yet,” emphasizes Mike Scelzi. “In some ways, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Stay tuned for the next 5 years as robotics along with AI (artificial intelligence) guide more of our designs and production techniques. Our dealers and end users will be the big winners.”
The future may not be here yet, but presentday technology is already great at Ford and at Scelzi Enterprises.

Electric vehicles were supposed to be the next big driver for dealerships. But challenges overcoming consumer doubt, combined with inventory shortages that rocked the entire car-buying industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, left room for an unexpected opportunity for dealerships. That same pandemic catapulted the growth of last-mile and home-delivery services, reshaping the global business environment. And though the world has moved on from the multiyear pandemic, the significant business opportunity for the commercial vehicle industry has not passed.
While the pandemic presented challenges for dealerships, it also highlighted the stability and profitability of commercial-vehicle sales. Today, vehicle inventory levels are more in line with prepandemic levels, yet the economy presents a different slate of challenges.
Retail auto buyers are more often shopping based on a want rather than a need, which means delaying a purchase doesn’t have the same ramifications as it does for commercial customers.
Business owners are driven by necessity. Their livelihoods depend on reliable vehicles, making them less susceptible to economic and political fluctuations, such as the season dealers find themselves in today with still-high interest rates.
Selling to businesses unlocks a powerful growth engine for dealerships — a “one-to-many” dynamic. Commercial customers are definitely in-market when they are shopping, and often buy more than one
vehicle. Commercial-vehicle shoppers are also more likely to recommend a dealership to friends, family and employees who are also buying a vehicle, resulting in one customer and many vehicle sales. With retail buyers, the opposite is true; it’s a many-to-one scenario, with up to 10 prospects resulting in only one vehicle sale. As you can see, the math is much more favorable for a dealership on the commercial side of the business.
Commercial vehicles also provide long-term revenue opportunities. Business owners prioritize vehicle uptime to minimize downtime, costing them from $2,500 to $5,000 per day that a vehicle is down. This translates into a more proactive approach around maintenance, and thus increased service revenue. Some dealerships report repair order values from commercial customers are 2 ½ times higher than retail customers.
OEMs have recognized the potential of the commercialvehicle market and are investing in dedicated divisions and support programs. The initiatives provide dealerships with the tools and resources to support the surging demand of this segment, such as expanded inventory, streamlined financing, and innovative solutions, like mobile service, telematics and fleet-management tools that enhance vehicle uptime. That level of support enables dealerships to cultivate more robust and valuable relationships with local businesses, opening doors to new revenue streams and seamlessly integrating commercial operations into their existing business models.
Dealerships that embrace the commercial-vehicle market can unlock significant growth and profitability. New dedicated commercial divisions, like Ram Professional, Ford Pro, and GM Envolve underscore the significant shift in the industry's focus. By understanding the needs of commercial customers, focusing on their unique market drivers, leveraging OEM support, and adopting innovative strategies, dealerships can position themselves for longterm success in a dynamic industry.

At Work Truck Week’s Ride & Drive, I got behind the wheel of several cutting-edge commercial vehicles, including the Ram ProMaster EV Super High Roof, which offered a surprisingly smooth, quiet ride with plenty of space for upfits. I also checked out the powerful new eSprinter, climbed into the Rivian Commercial Van for the first time, and was especially impressed by the sleek, fully electric Class 5 truck from Zeus Electric Chassis and One Stop Truck & Equipment.
The Ride & Drive offered a firsthand look at the innovation happening across the industry. It’s clear that the future of work trucks is not just coming—it’s already here.
