Each post requires increased education as well. You must have a two–year associates degree to advance to sergeant, 96 credits towards a bachelor's degree to be considered for a lieutenant position, and a bachelor's degree to make captain.

If I went around asking people, "how many people want to be a police officer?" I'm pretty sure I'd get funny looks. I want to take you back to a time where I was sitting in my dentist 's office, laying down on the plastic covered chair, with a bright light in my face and an uncomfortable noise coming from the metal tools scraping my teeth. Im sure everyone has had an experience with dentist who tries to have a conversation with you while they are working on your teeth. As I was trying to communicate with my dentist, she said something that made my day go from just a normal day to an extremely pleasant day. "Hey, I remember you telling me you were thinking about being a k–9 police officer, I have a patient who is one, do you want me to put you in touch with him?". My eyes widened and I excitedly said,"Yes! That would be great!", with a mouth full of saliva and metal tools. This statement opened up an opportunity I would never forget.

There they help enhanced my decision making skills, leadership abilities, and helped me grow as a man. After serving on active duty I worked in the corporate world and joined the Marine Corp reserves. It wasn't until after a few deployments to Iraq I decided to finally get focused on my career in law enforcement by attending the Hillsborough Community College Police Academy and continuing my education there by working on my A.A.S. Degree in Criminal Justice there as well. I do plan on expanding on that by getting a Bachelor's degree at U.S.F.

Grown ups always love asking children one question all the time, which is what do you want to be when you grow up. Kids always answer so fast without even thinking about it, they answer I want to be a fireman, teacher, doctor, lawyer, and police officer. It's easy to say any of those careers because they don't know what it takes or what it truly means to be what they say they want to be. In my case I want to become a police officer. Being a cop is good and sounds like a cool job to have. As a kid I didn't know what it truly meant to be apolice officer. Sometimes what other police officers do that are negative get reflected onto the other police officers even though they are not all like that. But being in law enforcement can also be a good thing and can be a rewarding job.
What I knew: What I knew about my topic from the beginning was that it's not easy being a police officer. Being a police officer is actually very stressful and rewarding at the same time. Why I Chose Law Enforcement as My Major With all the jobs out there in the world, how does anyone decide what they want to do with their lives? Most of the time this is the first question young people ask themselves when they are trying to figure out what they want to major in at college. This question caused me a lot of confusion about my possible future career. The career I finally choose, like many other young adults, was law enforcement, to be a police officer. In the following paragraphs, I will describe the reasons for my choice, along with the effects that my education and training have on my goal of becoming a police officer.

It gives me a leg up on other applicants for police jobs that only have a degree or military training. With both military training and a degree, the only competition for a job is someone with both military training and degree like me or someone who already is a police officer and is looking to move somewhere else. The job outlook for future police jobs looks good because as the population increases every year, the criminal element increases as well resulting in more police officers needed to deal with the increase in crime. This increase in police jobs also means there are more openings for advancement to higher level police jobs such as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) or a police dog handler (K–9 Unit). Both of these police jobs appeal to me and would be the pinnacle of my career, only barely being beaten by becoming a SWAT Commander or a Police Chief. Getting either a SWAT or K–9 Officer job is going to be tough because these two higher level police jobs are the most sought after by police officers, especially those officers that are ex–military as in the case of SWAT. In order to get a SWAT or K –9 job, I plan on showing them I am the best person for the job. I am working on this even now by keeping up with my physical training by working out twice a day. I go to the gym for two hours in the morning and then in the evening, doing sprint drills

You should hire me as a Juvenile Probation Officer for this department for several reasons. First off, I am a patient and persistent person, especially when working with children. Working in a daycare can be stressful and overwhelming to many people. Trying to teach a room full of 10 to 15 three–year–olds is not only challenging but testing. There have been many occasions where a child was throwing a fit and would hit anything and everything in their path, including me. I would sit them down and calmly speak to them until they relaxed enough to hear what I was saying. Sometimes this process took up to 15 minutes alone. However, once they were calm, we would talk to figure out the problem, and both the child and I would come up with a solution. Now I know working as a probation officer, I won't likely be handling children that young, but it's the same concept. You must take the time you have available to that child and make it as positive as you can while being as persistent as you can, for some are going to try to push you away. We all have a calling in life. A few years ago while enjoying a delicious dinner with my family, I began to daydream staring through my kitchen window. Worried by the blank look in my eyes, my wife Kim leaned over towards me to ask what thoughts were going through my head. "I am having an epiphany", I told her. I knew that if I push myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually I can succeed in the pursuit journey. Still staring out the window, I asked myself, "If I'm blessed to make it to age 85, would I look back and regret that I had never tried to serve my country as an officer and a coastguardsman?" The answer was an undeniable yes. Then I took a glimpse over at my son Mason, who also stood sitting at the table and thought to myself,...show more content...

My greatest skill is being physically, emotionally, and spiritually balanced. I'm guided by a set of principles that have endured throughout my life. Overall, I believe that Company needs to be organized, to work well as a team and get along with one another, and to be able to solve problems effectively. With organization, I think that each day we should have a set schedule as to what we are going to do and for how long; additionally, I think we need to really sit down the class period before a performance and talk about who is bringing what (i.e. makeup or props) so that nothing is forgotten. This will make everything less stressful. As for teamwork and getting along with each other, I think we need to periodically do team building activities throughout the year to strengthen our relationships with each other. To address problem solving as a team, I think we need to have "come to Jesus" circles slightly more often, especially if it has to do with the behavior of Company members. I think it is a good way to really fix the problem without the solutions just going in one ear and out the other. Why I Want To Be A Police Officer
During one of the first days in class every cadet was asked why they were at the academy and why they wanted to be a police officer. My initial response to that question was that I wanted to help others. However, I would like to make clear what I meant by this, and point out that even though helping others remains being the primary objective, it is not the exclusive reason for wanting to be a police officer. Helping others remains being my primary reason, followed by the desire to have a divers career and by the benefits that are associated with being a police officer.
Helping Others
Police work is really unique in the fact that police officers help people every day, even when the officer or the public doesn't realize that this is happening. This can be achieved in a variety of ways including prevention of victimization, or even helping criminals make better choices.
Saving victims
Every interaction with the public, every ticket/citation given, every response to a domestic violence call can potentially save a life. If they get a ticket, the possibility of them speeding or driving under the influence again would be smaller than before. Entering the career of law enforcement is not always easy. Becoming a Police Officer means that I would become a justified employee of the police force. As a Police Officer, I would typically be responsible for placing criminals under arrest, looking for crimes and preventing them before they can happen, protecting the community and it's property and many other things. It is not an easy job at all, Police work can be stressful and dangerous because there is a constant possibility of being injured or killed every day, but it is definitely worth it in the end. Even though those were clear examples, being a Police Officer alone would just be saving someone's life. Enforcing the law saves peoples lives, and that is exactly what I would be doing. Everything that I would do would be preventing something that could have been fatal. Police officers have been a part of history for a long time, the earliest time is recorded back to the sixteen hundreds. When the first Europeans came over to the United States, they felt that it was necessary to protect themselves and their people from the inhabitants that were already here and had no interest in sharing their land with them. Any man and young boy that was physically able to protect their people was required to do so. There
