OPS – The Heart of the Community Community Newsletter – Term 4 Week 6 Monday 19 November 2018

Huge thanks to the wonderful group of parents and teachers who accompanied our 46 Year 7 and 8 students on their 6 day Wellington Camp last week. Students were kept very busy with a full itinerary that included visits to Gallipoli Exhibition in Te Papa, a tour of Parliament buildings, busking outside Courtney Place Food Court, a ferry journey to Picton, news broadcasting and music making at Capital E, commuter train travel, art workshop at the City Art Gallery, a cable car ride and an afternoon at Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary. Our OPS Seniors were fabulous ambassadors everywhere they went with comments from everywhere we visited about how well behaved and knowledgeable they were. Thanks to Mrs Warren for preparing the students so well prior to the trip.

CONGRATULATIONS to all our Yr 4-6 athletes who have qualified to go through to the North Cluster Athletics Competition this Wednesday 21 Nov. We were very proud of the OP School Spirit and to see the growth mindset show through in all our OP athletes at the small schools athletics day last week. Thanks to all parents for your support and to Louise and staff for running this successful event.

Our LOST PROPERTY has ballooned – please check the trolley on the front deck to make sure nothing belongs to your children. Named clothing is easy to return – thank you to all families who have named items.

Tierra Japanese students – Host Families required.

Friday Sausage Sizzles have finished for the year. Welcome to new teaching staff for 2019. Ali Lawrence, Katherine Kittson and Charmaine Joubert have all joined the OPS team for 2019 in part time positions. Frances Towers and Kirsten Symes will also be returning in 2019. We are looking forward to having a very strong teaching team next year.

In Term 3 2019 for two weeks from 21 July our school will be hosting a group of eighteen 11-14 year old students from Japan. We require families or Omokoroa residents who would be interested in hosting one or two of these students for the two weeks. You will be paid for hosting. Hosts involved in 2017 were very positive about the experience and the opportunity for their family to learn about the Japanese culture. Please see Vicki or Heather for an information pack. If you know of any Omokoroa residents who would be happy to host two Japanese students please let them know about this opportunity. Registrations of interest need to be made by the end of November. Have you been good this year? Santa wants to hear from you Go to Santa’s website and write to him… Visit nzpost.co.nz/writetosanta, where kids can use the interactive website to design their own Christmas scene and send it to Santa with a message. He’ll reply with a personal response. The kids will need help to enter their name and a postal address (school or home). If Santa receives a message before Sunday 2 December he will post his reply, otherwise he’ll email a letter that can be printed.

For demonstrating a positive ‘can do’ attitude and showing care and concern for others on Wellington Camp.
