A Message from Maria Dear Prospective Sponsor, The Green Seal Program is a student-run certification system aiming to promote sustainable event planning and management among student clubs within the Commerce Undergraduate Society (CUS) at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. Administered by CUS Sustainability, Sauder’s student-run business sustainability committee, the Green Seal is awarded to organizations based on the demonstration of leadership in one or more of the following areas: waste reduction resource minimization, and energy reduction. In its second year of operation, we are excited to be expanding the Green Seal Program to be a sponsorship-based initiative so that we can provide CUS clubs with discounted green resources from company sponsors to facilitate the sustainability of the club’s operations. We hope to be able to award the Green Seal to more clubs as a result and thus increase the practice of sustainability within Sauder. In return, we would provide you with a multitude of marketing and promotional benefits. With your help, the Green Seal Program will transform the CUS into a more sustainable student society and inspire the next generation of business leaders. Please feel free to explore the rest of this package and contact us with any further questions or concerns. We truly appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you. Sincerely, Maria Jose Fernandez Corporate Relations Director

How Sponsorship Works

We are primarily looking for in-kind sponsorship for discounted sustainable materials and services from companies that we will provide to CUS clubs for use in their events, such as catering discounts or merchandise provided at-cost. We also accept monetary sponsorship. As a Green Seal Program sponsor, your company will receive many benefits in the form of marketing and promotion, both from CUS Sustainability and the clubs that will benefit from your sponsorship, as the latter are required to acknowledge and promote sponsors before and during their event. Hundreds of students and staff will be reached through multiple levels of promotion. You will also have the opportunity to facilitate the growth of the next generation of sustainable business leaders.

Sponsorship Benefits From CUS Sustainability  Logo and hyperlink on CUS Sustainability Facebook pages, websites, and Twitter  Posts on Facebook page and website highlighting sponsoring company in greater detail  Logo placement on all promotional material related to the Green Seal Program event (print and online)  Logo on all Green Seal Certificates awarded to other CUS clubs From CUS clubs that used sponsored resources for an event  Logo placement on all promotional material related to the Green Seal Program event (print and online)  Poster at the Green Seal Program event promoting sponsoring company 3

Applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

INSPIRE

2. Promotional and print material, if absolutely required, should be printed on 100% recycled paper. 3. Recycling bins should be placed adjacent to trash cans.

Past Events and Initiatives Sustainable Resources Initiative This past year, we have acquired two key sponsorships to provide CUS clubs with discounted or free sustainable resources. Firstly, we worked with a printing company that provided sustainable printing for our promotional material. We also acquired reusable water dispensers and compostable water cups, which we provided to clubs free of charge in order to discourage the use of bottled water at events.

Green P.O.I.T.S P.O.I.T.S. is a bi-weekly beer garden that is a longstanding social tradition at Sauder. Last year, we co-hosted “Green P.O.I.T.S on St. Patrick’s Day to promote sustainability in a social setting. To reduce waste, beer was stored in kegs as opposed to individual cans. We also provided discounted, sustainablyprinted posters for the event. Students were asked to bring in their own mugs, as an alternative to compostable cups for which we charged an extra dollar.

Urban Dash Urban Dash is a one-day, sustainability-themed competition styled after The Amazing Race. We helped Urban Dash develop a sustainable marketing plan to promote the event, which utilized our discounted sustainable printing service. CUS Sustainability also provided Urban Dash with water dispensers for refill stations along the race route as an alternative to bottled water. As a result of our collaborative efforts, Urban Dash was awarded the Green Seal by CUS Sustainability, as well as the Commerce Undergraduate Society Green Award in 2013.
