THREE
Welcome to Season 3
“What is saved in the cinema when it achieves art is a spontaneous continuity with all individuals. It is not an art of the princes or the bourgeoisie. It is popular and vagrant. In the sky of the cinema, people learn what they might have been and discover what belongs to them apart from their single lives.” John Berger
As we progress and grow into Season 3, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us and stepped into the Curzon’s red velvet embrace at any time but especially during the last two seasons. Our aim has been to be ‘more than just a cinema’; creating events and experiences that enable on-screen narratives to come alive allowing communities to get involved and become part of a dynamic conversation.
As ever, we continue to screen the latest mainstream and independent films which are added to our weekly listings: what you will find in the pages that follow are our curated strands of one-off events that you can book further in advance. It may be sunny as I write this, but we are already planning Christmas outings to create nostalgic memories. Think Snowman with added snow, Frozen with added song and Elf with added Elf-iness.
This season we’re thrilled that Classic & Cuppa screenings are all part of Cinema Rediscovered. Sound & Vision is back to remind us just how key soundtracks are as live musicians and DJs bring the venue, and films, to life. Outdoor Adventures contains uplifting stories of resilience in the face of adversity. Colour & Light delves into the visual arts from Basquiat to Van Gogh with live animation from Paper Cinema for all the family. Connections provides space to delve into issues that are as pressing locally as they are globally, with our Live Comedy nights giving much needed respite through laughter. Event cinema is a proper event at the Curzon with live opera to serenade you outside the bar. Lastly, you’ll find this season’s immersive screening, another collaboration with the one and only DJ Cheeba, as we go dark, for The Lost Boys...
Dive in, dig deep, book up.

La Haine + Q&A + DJ Ngaio
The 1995, the Cannes- winning, coup de cinema quickly achieved a cult status that it’s held onto almost 3 decades later. La Haine blew up the film scene like few other films have done, uniting audiences and catapulting a marginalised conversation into the mainstream. It set the bar high and continues to resonate, sadly growing in relevance rather than being consigned to history. It’s visual style, killer soundtrack, and social commentary will be celebrated and explored in this big screen outing with added extras.
Witness at first hand the stories and recollections of the people on the front lines of this incredible moment in time, which split communities and the nation in two, and which has ripples that still resonate to this very day.
