CICT dauntlessly upgrading despite odds with 10th IT Congress Jhasmine Estacio & Jonathan Pizarra
With the initiative of the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS), the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) virtually celebrated its 10th IT Congress themed “Valor’s Vision: The Dauntless Upgrade” last June 07-11, 2021 using various online platforms. For the past decade, SWITS has been organizing the event to help students showcase their potential and be more industry-ready. This year’s
edition is the longest IT Congress spanning five days. It is also the firstever virtually held and free IT Congress. “The theme is very timely as we have to be dauntless and that we have to continuously upgrade amidst this pandemic to continue our mission of providing quality and relevant education,” said Dr. Keno C. Piad, CICT Dean, in his opening remarks. “Despite all of the hardships that happened, we are still thankful and blessed as everything happened according to plans. Although there are some flaws and inadequacies, we still learned from them,” said SWITS President Lenith Pili regarding the
problems they faced as organizers. After the opening salvo, the Mobile Legends and Valorant competitions were held on the second day. On the other hand, students took the spotlight on the third day in the X-QuizIT: Test of Knowledge, C++, and Java programming events. Other competitions are the LayIT-Out: Unleashing Creative Minds organizational shirt competition; Digitech: Past, Present, Future digital art competition; and Valor’s Vision: Inspire. Educate. Motivate videomaking competition. The fourth day was highlighted by the plenary webinar session entitled Valor’s Talk: Strengthens Mind and Spirit to Achieve Grit. Keynote speaker John Raphael Dela Paz, the owner of West Point Esports, talked about esports management and his experience in managing an esports team. Patricia C.
