STUDENT GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN FOR THE MAGNA CARTA OF STUDENTS

It began with a call to the different student sectors in the university prior to the event for a discussion regarding the different issues that challenge the rights of students.

During the convention, the Student Government presented the Magna Carta and its sections.

In an effort to fulfill their promise during last year’s student government elections of a fair and just system for all the student sectors in Bulacan State University(BulSU), the BulSU Student Government(SG) launched What is the Magna Carta of their campaign for the Magna Carta of Students during the Students Students?

While the Magna Carta holds a lot of promise for the student body of Bulacan State University, the question of whether the Administration will heed the call for a more comprehensive guarantee of students rights and welfare is still up in the air.

BULSU OPENS SAMBALARAN CAMP PROJECT III

Bulacan State University launched Sambalaran Camp Project III themed “Bayanihan ng Mga Bayani ng Bayan” at the Valencia Hall last November 11, 2019.

“Dahil sa ating pananaliksik, masasanay at mamumulat ang mamamayan sa malaking tungkulin sa ating lipunan na ginagalawan at mahalaga ang kooperasyon ng bawat isa sa

atin,” said University President Dr. Cecilia Navasero-Gascon as she gave the opening message.

Gov. Daniel Fernando of Bulacan served as the honored guest and speaker for the event.

The event also featured the university’s donations to the victims of the Mindanao earthquakes last October 2019.

Before the event ended, Fernando thanked the BulSU officials for the university’s contributions to the local community.

CURSOR HOLDS GRAPHIC DESIGN WORKSHOP

As a part of the celebration of the Science and Technology Week, CURSOR Publication, the official student publication of the College of Information and Communications Technology organized a graphic design workshop last September 26, 2019 at the CICT AVR. Mr. Lemuel Salazar, one of the publication’s faculty advisers, gave the opening remarks of the said seminar. He highlighted the importance of learning graphic design as an important skill that everyone should learn.

Chryselle Maglalang, CURSOR Head Layout Artist, was the first speaker for the event. She discussed and demonstrated the basics of Photoshop.

As a prelude to the 9th IT Congress, the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students launched several competitions that aim to enhance the skills of the students during the days leading up to the Congress, which was held last November 22, 2019 at the Kapitolyo ng Bulacan Gymnasium.

One of the contests was the Flex Your Organization Shirt contest wherein the students posted their photos for the best org shirt picture idea. The winner, BSIT 1B-G2, was announced last November 10, 2019.

SWITS also organized several skills competitions a day before the IT Congress, including Java programming, C++ programming, and Pencil Dash.

THE GULLIBLE FILIPINO: SEA GAMES 2019 The SEA Games 2019 last November was a monumental event for the Philippines, not only because it would be a great chance for our athletes to flash their skills, but because the SEA Games is about camaraderie and building great relationships with other nations.

All relationships start by making yourself appealing.

The budget for the event was given a P6 billion budget for the hosting, not including the P11 billion infrastructure budget to build the New Clark City in Bamban, Tarlac as the event’s venue. That equates to a total of P17 billion for our country’s SEA Games hosting.

P17 billion was supposed to make us appealing to build relationships with other nations, but that P17 billion failed miserably in the beginning. Before the games even opened, the event was off to a rocky start.

It all started when the delegates and athletes from other countries arrived at our airports. Pictures of athletes sleeping on airport benches and on the floors of hotels circulated online, leaving the government on fire for poor accommodation and logistics.

Until one day, you found out that some of your flowers are withering amidst the care that you are providing to keep them safe from harm. You continue on revisiting your garden, thinking of the right idea to save those withering flowers but you cannot come up with any concrete plan to save them until you decide to just weed out them to save the other remaining healthy and blossoming

But somehow, as a student, if we speak out for our rants, we need not only be confident but we also need to make sure that we deserve to pass. The truth is, ranting about it won’t solve it, and sometimes we are responsible for why we failed in the first place.

Some students have failing grades in a subject, a red mark on their portal account that are more painful than breakups. At first, they ask themselves why they received a failing grade, and why they failed. These are just some of the questions running through their minds. Many also blame their professors who gave them a failing grade which is not always the professor’s fault.

But on the other side of the situation, if we put our position as an ethical instructor, there are students who really deserve a failing grade. Professors don’t want to fail their students because of nothing, they don’t have an intention to pull us down by giving a failed grades and they are the one who get sad when they know that their students failed because of them, it’s as if they didn’t do their job well enough.

As a student, it’s really hard to accept the fact that you failed even though you tried your best to pass. It’s like you tried to give your best but it’s not enough and we end up blaming our instructor who gave that failing grade.

Sometimes, we ask them why they didn’t give us a little consideration to pass, maybe they want us to learn, to seek more so that next time we will never stumble again. Somehow, failure is not only a disadvantage, it’s

If I were to name one person who loves me fondly and unconditionally, there’d be no other name that is going to pop up in my head except my mother’s. She loved me way before she first laid her hands on my face and she took care of me way before she first held me in her arms. She’s proud of my victories and triumphant of my defeats. She is my guide, my hope, and my whole life.

The love that I have for my mother drove me to read the book “The History of Great Things” by Elizabeth Crane.

This book is a narrative of a mother and daughter who are intimately connected but not connected enough to each other; exchanging different thoughts and ideas about one another and embellishing the truth whenever possible and revealing their own personal biases.

Written in a witty and creative way of telling a story by a mother and daughter who are reminiscing their memories through the looking glass of time in two beautiful counterpoised ways, Lois (the mother) and Betsy (the daughter) tries to connect to each other more deeply as they revisit what happened in the past and what they truly know about each other.

Chapter by chapter, the pair works together to tell each other’s life stories with their own perspectives and remembering of the situations.

Wherein, Betsy is into telling stories in an emotional way and later became conversationally and tries to gloss up over to give extra care to scenes that she views. On the other hand, Lois tells stories in a very hyperbolic way.

She is more inclined to tell stories using her maternal concern towards her daughter Betsy.

Crane’s inventive novel of intimacy and reflection is told in an alternating way which may sometime lead the readers to confusion but the headstrong of each characters will always lead you back to the right perspective. Her cleverness also resulted for the book to brim with warm and revelations which will surely take the readers to an insular world created by her made up conversations that shows how one’s relationship with their mother can be.

At some part of the book, Lois will pull back the curtain on Betsy’s lifelong secrets as she tries to uncover some of her stories which resulted to her interrupting as she tried to defend her own actions and behaviors in the past. This book also shows how most mothers respond to their child’s actions and how they help them get through a situation.

This book will surely make you cry and laugh, and ask for more emotions as you get thrilled by the exchange of conversations of those two narrators at the same time. Just like how it made me feel when Lois said this to Betsy, “look at you, you’ve done better without me,” to which Betsy replied, “you were there for thirtyseven years of my life, there is no me without you”.

What I loved about this book is the pair’s differences, their exchange of thoughts at the end or middle of each and every chapter. How they discover their attitudes, lies and sometimes the truth, and how they swallow up their prids and ultimately coming up to understanding and loving each other in a way that feels extraordinary.

Truly, The History of Great Things will make us realize that our mother is the one who has been with us from the beginning and will always stick with us until the end, regardless of what else may follow.

“I wish I was 18 by now”, a 12-year-old me thinking

that life is better when I grow up.

Excited to see what the world has to offer and how life works as an adult.

Amazed by the busy people walking down the streets and the light full buildings in town, I thought that growing up is such wonderful thing.

However, life doesn’t always go the way we expected it to be, in fact, it will always shock you by what it really has to offer.

So, as I started to grow and mature, I cannot help but always wish that I can go back in time and stay young forever. I wanted to go back to where I am free from pain and hate and when life was as easy as counting one, two, three. Aging is inevitable like change, we can’t stop it and all we can do is to look back to some of our favorite

memories and think of our innocent happiness by then. And now that I am officially a grown-up, I wanted to share the few things that I learned all through my journey to save some innocent soul from getting hurt.

1. Self-love is a must, at all times and at all cost - Prioritize yourself, your happiness and your well-being.

You’ve been already so giving to other people that you almost forgot to check on yourself and you forgot how well you should be treated. Now’s just the right time to start giving back to yourself because you deserve all happiness and love that you keep on giving to the world.

Nevertheless, choosing the path of loving yourself is a long road. It will cost you a lot of time, effort and sacrifices but it will surely make your foundation a strong one that no other people can hurt and cause you pain ever again.

In addition, you have to learn to love yourself first for it is the prerequisite of loving other people deeply and genuinely which will make them love you the same way in return.

BY JONATHAN PIZARRA It was a momentous kick for the CICT Firefox taekwondo jins as they bagged five golds and one bronze medal in their respective divisions last October 24, 2019 inside the Valencia Hall.

Robert Hermogenes, Kenneth Delos Santos, Christian Jorge, Roman Roca, and Herman Lim stamped their class and won gold medals while Steven Uson dropped his quarterfinal match to settle for bronze.

In the featherweight division, Delos Santos ended the first round with the lead, 7-2, and won by default on the second round because of an illegal move by his opponent from the College of Engineering (CoE) Red Ants.

Hermogenes faced the College of Education (CoEd) Flames in the finals of the men’s bantamweight division and dominated, 16 – 8, to win the gold while Jorge fought and prevailed in the men’s lightweight division finals, 11 – 7, against the College of Science (CS) Wizards.

Roca dominated the men’s middleweight division and won the gold by successfully landing his

kicks, 28 – 9, against College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) Night Owls while Lim won by a landslide in the men’s welterweight division with his flexibility, 20 – 5, against COE Red Ants, In the men’s fin weight division, Uson advanced to the quarterfinals but was unfortunately defeated by the CS Wizard jin. their trophy while the women’s team took the bronze medal in this year’s Intramurals’ chess competition held at the Bulacan State University Chess Institute last October 22-24, 2019.

The men’s team was bannered by freshmen Kyle Emmanuel Ochoa, Spencer Sto. Domingo, and Irvin Ryan Reyes together with last year’s holdovers Gabriel Esguerra, Rhenz

After 13 rounds of grueling matches, they remained atop with 48 points.

It was a near perfect domination for the team that only lost four matches.

They went 3-1 against the College of Science (CS) Wizards and Bustos Double Headed Eagles and settled for a 2-2 draw against Sarmiento DoubleHeaded Eagles. They swept the other competition, 4-0.

The Firefox was followed by the College of Engineering (COE) Red Ants that bagged silver with 41 points while the Double-Headed Eagles took the bronze medal with 37 points.

Ochoa, Sto. Domingo, and Reyes showcased their mastery of the game and topped their respective boards.

Ochoa had a perfect performance on board one with 12 solid points while Sto. Domingo and Reyes each had 11 to top boards two and three respectively.

SICAT BAGS BRONZE IN MEN’S BADMINTON SINGLES B

BY LANCE LARIT The CICT Firefox Badminton Team was eliminated from the Intramurals early in their respective categories except for Jose Verano Sicat, who displayed great determination to earn a spot in the men’s badminton singles B category semifinals last October 23, 2019 inside the JCAS Sports Center at Fausta City of Malolos, Bulacan.

Sicat advanced to the semifinals where he faced Samuel Cortez of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) Tigers but eventually lost, 5 – 15, to settle for the bronze medal.

After he won the medal, he shared his strengths and motivation to keep him going. “First, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na mag-enjoy lang ako and gawin ko ang

best ko at humingi din ako ng tulong na magawa ko ang lahat kay Lord then sinabi ko sa sarili ko na mananalo ako dahil kasama ko si Lord sa lahat ng laban ko,” said Sicat.

“Na motivate ako sa nakaraang Intramurals dahil ako lang ang walang place noon then sinabi ko sa sarili na kailangan kong manalo this time.

Dahil sa tulong ng coach ko at mga kateammates ko naging mas aggressive ako sa bawat laban ko para mapanalo ko ang laban at nag focus ako sa kung ano ang tinuro sakin,” he added.

The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) Tigers went on to win the gold medal while College of Sports, Exercise, and Recreation (CSER) Stallions had to settle for the silver medal finish.
