A LOOK BACK...

Three-Peat! Baruch Bearcats Win the 2020 CUNYAC/Pepsi Men's Swimming and Diving Championship Bronx, N.Y. (Feb. 2, 2020) - With its opposition well in the rear-view mirror, Baruch College cemented its place as a conference champion for the third-consecutive year on Sunday at the 2020 CUNYAC/Pepsi Swimming and Diving Championship at the APEX at Lehman College in the Bronx.

Baruch put on a stellar display over the three-day meet, amassing an astounding 336 points. Brooklyn finished as the runner-up with 220 points.

The 116-point margin matches last year's differential.

“We came in and knew we were going to have stiff competition against Brooklyn. We came together as a team, they each knew their place and their piece, and we got together and made sure we did it this weekend,” Head Coach Charles Lampasso said.

The Bearcats’ senior Evan Nikolic earned six golds and one silver over the three day event including first place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and in the 400-yard freestyle relay. His efforts earned him Most Valuable Performer.

“We have a great culture and that comes from the seniors. They were great examples over the last three years. I can’t take all the credit, this was definitely a team effort,” Nikolic said. “I hope to inspire the next freshman class next season and continue to foster this winning culture and make it another three-years-in-a-row,” Nikolic added.

In the 200-yard backstroke, the Bearcat trio of David Matskovsky, Morgan Welling, and Eddy Min finished 1-2-3 in succession. Matskovsky got gold with a 2:08.85 clocking, Welling earned silver touching the pad at 2:31.11 and Min took bronze with a time of 2:21.21.

For the Bulldogs, they received key contributions from Konstantin Lomryko and Peter Ebert, both taking gold in the 200-yard breaststroke and 1650-yard freestyle respectively.

A LOOK BACK...

Hunter Wins Its Eleventh CUNYAC Swimming and Diving Title in League History Bronx, N.Y (Feb. 2, 2020) - Hunter College captured their eleventh title in league history at the 2020 CUNYAC/ Pepsi Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, at the Apex at Lehman College in the Bronx. It’s the Hawks first title since 2017.

“It feels good, I don’t think it set in quite yet. We had a good time this weekend and that’s really important for everyone to have a good time,” Hunter Head Coach Michael Kokoszka said. We had a lot of personal bests this weekend, so it’s a really good feeling,” Kokoszka added.

The Hawks (312 points) led all weekend with stellar performances by freshman Sarah Decker and two-time CUNYAC All-Star senior Virginia Anne Dundon.

Decker finsihed the weekend with seven total medals, including two golds, the 500-yard freestlye and the 400-yard medley relay. “Sarah really brings out the best out of everyone. She’s going to be a huge part of our team moving forward, we’re so happy to have her,” Kokoszka said.

Dundon took gold on Sunday in the 200-yard breastroke (2:35.17), nine seconds ahead of next place finisher.

“Virginia is a very special, this year she put it all together, she has such a positive impact on her teammates. She sets such good tone for everybody and everyone looks up to her, she was a big part of our time this year and why we did so well,” Kokoszka added.

Lehman junior, Sarina Eshtiaghi was named the championship Most Valuable Performer for the second year-ina-row. The Mamaroneck native set two new CUNYAC Championship marks. On Sunday, the junior crushed the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.95, four seconds better than her previous best and on Saturday, and in the 100 backstroke, Eshtiaghi clocked a time of 59.22.

“It feels amazing, I did my best, I swam as fast as I can, and it happened. I was so happy,” Eshtiaghi said. "This is an honor to win MVP. Everyone is swimming, everyone is at their best, it’s really hard because everyone is competing, I’m so glad that I earned it,” Eshtiaghi concluded.
