UMBERLAND – With about two months to go before Christmas, the Cumberland Christmas Mother program is basically breaking even, but that only lasts as long as applications don’t increase. The program has not been receiving to date the usual number of applications it normally does since it has consistently increased in previous years, said Barry Vassar, who has donned the red and white hat for a third year as Cumberland’s Christmas Mother.

Missing girl found safe By Laura McFarland News Editor
CUMBERLAND – A 6-year-old Cumberland County girl who had been missing almost 24 hours has been located and is happy and safe with friends and family, law enforcement officials say. Yarah Atiya Thomas, 6, of Cumberland was found by law enforcement around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, almost a full day since she went missing from her bus stop on Mahan Road at about 4:05 p.m. on Oct. 25, according to Cumberland Yarah Thomas County Sheriff Darrell Hodges.
