THE RESTAURANT WORKER NEWSLETTER: #2

Workers at Alexxa’s Kitchen and Bar inside Paris Casino have joined the Culinary Union’s campaign to organize 10,000 non-union restaurant workers on the Las Vegas Vegas Strip! Workers asked the company to be neutral as they organize, but Alexxa’s owner JRS Hospitality responded with anti-union meetings run by consultants Labor Information Services, the same anti-union firm Amazon hired and paid $665,000. The Culinary Union has already filed a charge against Alexxa’s alleging multiple violations with the National Labor Relations Board. A leadership committee of Alexxa’s workers attended big table negotiations with the Culinary Union and Caesars Entertainment Corporation at Paris Casino last month. “I believe that the non-union restaurant workers deserve the same standard as us and to be treated with respect. If non-union restaurant workers ever picket their restaurant, I want to be able to respect their picket lines and be in solidarity. There are thousands of workers up and down the Las Vegas Strip who are standing up to fight for a better future and as a shop steward and Culinary Union member I have their backs!” - Francisco Rufino, a cook at Paris Casino and Culinary Union Union member for 25 years. Culinary Union is organizing 10,000 non-union restaurant workers beginning with Eataly Las Vegas at Park MGM and Alexxa’s at Paris Casino.
