Frankenburg,MD,MSPH,FAAP,createdtheDenver DevelopmentScreeningTestwithJosiahDodds,PhD,in 1973,toencourageearlyidentificationofchildrenwith developmentalproblemsbyhealthprofessionals,aswellas professionalsineducationandsocialservices.Releasedas theDenverIIin1992,ithasbeenadaptedforusethroughout theworld.
Dr.FrankenburgreceivedhisMDfromTempleUniversity (1957)andcompletedaresidencyatJohnsHopkinsHospital andafellowshipinchilddevelopmentandpsychosocial aspectsofpediatricsatYaleUniversityMedicalSchool.In 1964,hejoinedthefacultyoftheUniversityofColorado SchoolofMedicineintheDepartmentofPediatricsand PreventiveMedicine.HeservedasdirectoroftheJohnF. KennedyChildDevelopmentCenterfrom1977to1985.In 1987,heearnedamasterofscienceinpublichealthfromthe UniversityofNorthCarolinaatChapelHill.In1991,hewas awardedthedistinctionofprofessoremeritusfromthe UniversityofColoradoSchoolofMedicine.
FrankenburgservedasaconsultanttoUNICEF,theWorld HealthOrganization(WHO)andgovernmentsandinstitutions aroundtheworld.Heauthorednumerouspublicationsand wastherecipientofthe1974U.S.SeniorScienceAwardfrom theAlexandervonHumboldtFoundation,aSpecial AchievementAwardin1986fromtheAmericanAcademyof Pediatrics(AAP)in1986,andthe1992C.AndersonAldrich AwardinChildDevelopment,alsofromtheAAP.

Herresearchandadvocacycenterontheeary p delaysandbehavioralconditions,contributingtoimprovementsin screeningpracticesandenablingmoretimelyinterventions.Apast presidentoftheSocietyforDevelopmentalandBehavioralPediatrics,she hasalsochairedtheAmericanAcademyofPediatrics(AAP)Sectionon DevelopmentalandBehavioralPediatrics.Additionally,Maciasservesas medicaleditorfortheAmericanBoardofPediatricsSub-boardof Developmental-BehavioralPediatricsandisamemberofthePediatrics ReviewCommitteefortheAccreditationCouncilforGraduateMedical Education(ACGME).
Maciashasbeeninstrumentalinseveralmajornationalinitiatives, includingtherecentrevisionoftheCDC’sDevelopmentalMilestones, theAAP’s2020ClinicalReportsonDevelopmentalScreeningand AutismSpectrumDisorder(ASD)EvaluationandTreatment,andthe AAP’sBehavioral-EmotionalScreeningClinicalReport.ShealsocoeditstheAAPManualonDevelopmentalandBehavioralPediatrics,a keyresourceforpediatricprofessionals.
Throughouthercareer,Dr.Maciashasbeencommittedtoadvancingthe understanding,screeningandtreatmentofdevelopmentalandbehavioral disordersinchildrenthroughherresearch,clinicalcareandeducation.
