festival music early ciuc miercurea The programme consists of a selection of works learnt over the years; namely, Gregorian chants linked to feasts of the Church year. Mass movements are performed in the order in which they appear in the liturgy, with a selection of movements from several feasts. The programme also includes chants of the canonical hours, including two hymns and a Magnificat antiphon. The works performed are from the volumes Liber Usualis Missae et Officii (1930) and Graduale Novum (Editio Magis Critica Iuxta SC 117, Regensburg, 2011).
The Madéfalvi Schola (Schola Gregoriana Siculeni) was founded in 2013 under the direction of conductor András Ványolós. The members of the choir are enthusiastic children from Siculeni (Madéfalva in Hungarian) who love singing. Over the years, the number of members has grown and the choir now has 23 members, some of whom have reached adulthood. They have participated in Schola meetings, and have also performed in Budapest, Târgu Mureș, Sângeorgiu de Mureș, Alba Iulia, Deva, Brașov and Sfântu Gheorghe. The Madéfalvi Schola has been practising and cultivating Gregorian chant for almost 10 years, and in the meantime it has become evident that this style is very suitable for developing the singing voice and deepening faith. Kodály’s principle that universal values should be the yardstick for the education of youth is confirmed by the children’s love and appreciation of this complex musical language.
