What are the key successes the City of Coconut Creek has achieved in the past two years?
One of the major successes the City has achieved is completion of Vision 2030, our 10-year strategic plan. This document was developed with extensive community input and provides a roadmap for achieving our goals and priorities over the next ten years. Areas of focus include safety and quality of life, sustainable environment, and progressive mobility, among others. Key successes in these areas over the past two years include:
- Establishing our own Fire Rescue department, resulting in decreased response times for our community.
- Transitioning police/fire dispatch services from the County to Coral Springs, resulting in further decreases in response times.
- Achieving a perfect medical inspection/evaluation from the Florida Department of Health Bureau of EMS Oversight and a Fire ISO rating of “1”, the highest public protection classification possible, providing the best opportunity to keep insurance premiums as low as possible for our citizens.
- Achieving Police Department reaccreditation through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation.
- Implementing a School Safety K9 program in our City schools, complementing our robust School Resource Officer presence for school safety.
- Transitioning our city’s Green Plan into an expanded Climate Action Plan aligned with the County to address climate change and resiliency in Coconut Creek.
- Completing major roadway projects including the Lyons Road Mobility project, and being approved for $3.9 million in federal funds for pedestrian lighting.
- Implementing the Ambassador Program, a community outreach program that has already exceeded 180 members and meets monthly on key issues in Coconut Creek such as the proposed Turnpike and landfill expansions.

There are many cities to choose from in Broward County. Why should business owners and families live, work and play in Coral Springs?
The City of Coral Springs is a 25 square-mile, South Florida community located at the edge of the beautiful Everglades National Park and voted “Best Place” to watch the sunset, by the Sun-Sentinel. A two-time winner of the Governor’s Sterling Award for Performance Excellence, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and recipient of the International City-County Managers Association’s Marketplace Innovation Award, Coral Springs serves as a national role model for cities similar in size. One of the many reasons more than 130,000 people call Coral Springs home, is our city’s greenspace. With 49 parks, competitive athletic programs, events, and festivals hosted all year, the city is attractive to families of all ages. The safety and well-being of residents of the city is paramount – from the best 911 communications center to police and fire training and response – the city’s public safety services continue to be locally and nationally recognized for excellence. Coral Springs is an exceptional place to call home and conduct business. In the 60 years since the city was officially chartered, Coral Springs has grown from bean fields to a vibrant family community. Developers have invested in the downtown area – with plans for a retail and residences. The future is brighter than ever for those choosing to do business in the City of Coral Springs.
The City of Coral Springs is committed to building long-term financial stability through innovative, datadriven, and forward-thinking strategies that fulfill our strategic goals and best meet the needs of residents and businesses. When the city was awarded $20 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), city staff met with residents and key stakeholders to obtain feedback about the best use for this funding. Overwhelmingly, participants and our City Commission agreed that a reinvestment into our city was the highest, best use for federal funding. Some of the funding will go towards improving outdoor fitness, park upgrades, sidewalk improvements and roadway resurfacing. To make it easier for residents to view city projects, including the size, scope, and timeline, we created a community dashboard and interactive mapping, coralsprings.gov/fy2022. This
allows residents to see first-hand what is being done to ensure Coral Springs remains the premier community in which to live, work, and raise a family.
The City of Coral Springs is truly committed to ensuring Coral Springs is the premier community in which to live, work and raise a family. We know how difficult the past two years have been for many residents and businesses due to the challenges we have faced related to COVID-19. Regardless of those difficulties, city commission and city staff remained committed to public service. The past year was a year of new beginnings, innovation, recognitions, and celebrations. The demolition of the Financial Plaza kick-started the development of Downtown Coral Springs, paving a path for a true place to gather. Village Square is making progress, with the purchase of the land of old City Hall. We opened a request for proposals to develop the vacant land at the Sportplex into a true destination attraction, and we are looking to create a bike path loop to improve connectivity to the Everglades trailhead while promoting outdoor exercise. The opening of our new Public Safety and Public Works Campus will allow our public safety and public works personnel to better serve our community, with state-of-the-art technologies and upgrades included in this facility. We have seen recognizable progress with our organized sporting activities and the advancements in programming for Family Fun Nights, expanded use of the Panther’s Ice Den, and increased the number of Pickleball courts for this growing sport. This movement forward would not be possible without the dedicated support of our many boards and committee members, as well as our volunteers.

Learn what the City of Coconut creek is doing for public safety in the community
Since its formation in 1969, the Coconut Creek Police Department has relied on positive relationships to build a foundation of community trust where the citizen is at the center of everything we do. All the department’s hard work in building a community-oriented police department came to fruition on October 3, 2018, when it received full accreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation [CFA]. The department earned reaccreditation in the fall of 2021 with zero compliance issues with the 223 CFA standards and no corrective actions. Being CFA accredited means that your police department is among the best of the best in accountability, transparency, and training. Coconut Creek Fire Rescue will be one-year old later this September.
We are excited to join the City of Coral Springs 911 Emergency Communications Center on November 8, 2022. This will streamline emergency communications services and increase response times.
The Coconut Creek Police Department is among the most technologically advanced agencies in Broward County. Our Real Time Crime Center monitors cameras at various public locations throughout the city. Leveraging partnerships with tech security systems such as ALERT [Active Law Enforcement Response Technology], officers can respond faster to potential mass casualty events at participating businesses and organizations, such as JA World on the campus of Broward College’s Coconut Creek
location. The Real Time Crime Center also monitors various license plate readers [LPRs] through a partnership with Flock Safety which has resulted in taking numerous criminals off the streets. Both partnerships are continuing to expand to include more businesses with ALERT, and more communities wanting to install Flock LPRs in order to further reduce crime.
Coconut Creek Fire Rescue regularly visits schools during Fire Prevention Week, which is every October, to teach children what to do in case of a fire and how to prevent one from starting. The department also attends numerous city events and community meetings to spread fire prevention information. The department also provides free CPR training, free fire extinguisher and automated external defibrillator [AED] training to workplaces, and fire safety inspections.

We are a proud partner of Do The Right Thing of Coconut Creek, a non-profit that honors selected Coconut Creek students during monthly ceremonies throughout the academic year. One teacher is selected as the Do The Right Thing of Coconut Creek Teacher of the Month as well.
Our team of Police Explorers, made up of all high schoolers, won the Florida Association of Police Explorers [FAPE] State Championship last summer in Orlando. The Police Explorers program is essentially an after-school club for teens interested in law enforcement and public service. They train to handle real-life scenarios officers face on a daily basis and then are graded on how well they manage those scenarios in the state competition. They also perform hundreds of hours of community service at cityrelated festivals and events.
The Fire Department oversees the Community Emergency Response Team [CERT], which responds to assist following natural disaster events, such as hurricanes, and any other occasions when needed.

How is the City of Coral Springs meeting infrastructural needs to accommodate substantial growth?
We understand that as our city grows, we must reevaluate our infrastructural needs, which is why we began updating our water and sewer infrastructure in the downtown area. The increased water demand requires upsizing of the water system to provide sufficient water supply to the downtown area. Similarly, the wastewater infrastructure will need to be upsized to accommodate additional sewer flows. The city has already completed several utility improvements projects downtown from 2015 to 2022 to accommodate current and future water and wastewater flow. Additional utility projects are currently in the planning phase and are scheduled for construction in the near future. Stay up to date by visiting, coralsprings.gov/workaroundtown. The city is also developing a Stormwater Master Plan to evaluate the existing stormwater infrastructure and identify potential improvements to reduce flooding and protect property. The plan will serve as a roadmap for resilience in the face of stronger storms, more frequent rain events, rising groundwater, and potential future development.

Changing behaviors and education are the biggest challenges that are faced when intending to create and maintain an environmentally friendly community. The city is committed to recycling right. This misconception creates high contamination of the waste stream and challenges the city to look for innovative and engaging ways to educate the community.

Coral Springs is a very health-conscious community. Our sidewalks are filled with students walking to and from school, children bike riding with their parents and joggers exercising. With a variety of organized races to run, fundraisers to join and park events to participate in, the options are almost endless.
For those interested in leisure sports, like golf, you can relax and enjoy the luscious greens at the Country Club of Coral Springs or TPC Eagle Trace. After a morning of golf, you can always grab lunch at either of these venues while you admire the stunning views.
One of Broward County’s hidden jewels is the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex at the Sportsplex. This worldrenowned facility is home to national and international swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming and diving competitions. Olympic divers and swimmers from all over the world have come to train at this facility, including Olympic gold medalist, Dara Torres, and Olympic Bronze medalist Bruno Fratus. This center features a large fitness center and aquatic classes for all age groups.
Coral Springs is served by world-class medical facilities such as Baptist Health of South Florida, Broward Health Coral Springs, Cleveland Clinic, Memorial Healthcare Systems’ Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, HCA Florida Healthcares’ Northwest Medical Center and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer System.
Coconut Creek offers many options to achieve health goals. There are two Creek Fit fitness centers in the city. Creek Fit offers a variety of group exercise classes including Yoga, Spinning, Zumba, Body Sculpting, and HIIT training. Group exercise such as Yoga provides exercise while also supporting emotional, spiritual and social health. Recently added is Polar Heart Rate Training. A Polar heart rate monitor tracks your heart rate while the instructor works to keep you in the proper heart rate zone. Specialty class such a Mind Body Balance, Creek Fit in the Park, Wellness Challenges and the City’s annual 5K Butterfly Run are held throughout the year.
City parks and greenways offer relaxing outdoor options to further facilitate physical, emotional and spiritual health. A variety of recreational and athletic programs are also offered throughout the year. Farmers Markets, held at the Township Plaza, offer healthy food, relaxing candles, natural products and are also a great way to socialize. Our Concerts in the Park provide a relaxing outdoor music experience. The City’s Green Plan contains sustainable/environmental themes including water, energy, urban design, urban nature, waste reduction, transportation, and climate change. This plan not only strives to make you healthier, but also our city. Ultimately, one of the best resources are the Parks & Recreation staff, who are available to help you achieve better health. The Platinum Circle is a group of visionary and civic-minded business leaders committed to moving Northern Broward County forward. The group supports the Chamber’s strategic direction as an investment in the future of our community. Through this program, we ignite new growth, inspire leadership, and advance our economy.
The Platinum Circle empowers the Chamber to play a key leadership role in the community, as well as in the development of future leaders through business education, advocacy, access and networking. Together, we are encouraging economic growth and ensuring that the City of Coral Springs, Coconut Creek and our surrounding communities continue to be vibrant for generations to come.
Coral Springs and Coconut Creek have a variety of arts and entertainment for residents and visitors alike. Stop by and spend the day or night exploring the newly refreshed city-run Coral Springs Museum of Art, which opened in 1997. Located inside the Center for the Arts, in the heart of Coral Springs, the Museum is one of the most exciting cultural venues hosting a myriad of activities throughout the year! Along with their 8,000 square foot contemporary gallery that changes exhibits about every eight weeks to showcase contemporary work from artists near and far, the museum hosts classes and workshops for all ages, camps, outreach, and events. They are growing and look forward to having you in the museum more and more this year!
Coral Springs is so passionate about the arts that in late 2003, the Coral Springs City Commission passed an ordinance creating a new Public Art Program —to bring
art out of the museum and into the community, on roadways, in front of buildings, parks, city squares and in lobbies. Art is at the center of the new City Hall, with new featured artist installations every six months.
A wide range of music also fills the air on the great lawn of City Hall – featuring music festivals like Bites-n-Sips and UnPlugged. Your family will not want to miss the multitude of events planned all year. The entertainment and parking are free—just bring a lawn chair and refreshments!
Coconut Creek is home to Butterfly World, the world’s first and largest butterfly park in the world, housing around 20,000 live butterflies! Coconut Creek also hosts an Annual Butterfly Festival, where you can enjoy a day filled with fun activities for all ages, two stages of live music, carnival rides and plenty of food! This annual event has something for everyone including children’s rides and games, a local business expo, City of Coconut
Creek Police Department K-9 demonstration, food trucks, a live concert tribute to Pink and a spectacular Fireworks show to top it all off.
While visiting Coconut Creek, make sure to check out the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, a local casino experience open 24/7, 365 days a year, featuring over 2,100 Las Vegasstyle slot machines and 75 live Table Games with real cards and dealers! For those who prefer a non-smoking environment, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek has a smoke-free pavilion with over 250 smoke-free slots and eight live table games!
There is always something to do in Coral Springs and Coconut Creek for you and your family to enjoy.

From interactive fitness trails to a new splash pad, to pickle ball courts galore - the Coral Springs Parks and Recreation Department has launched many new features in 2023 for the community to enjoy.
New pickleball courts have been added across the community to meet the demand for this increasingly popular sport. Locations with new courts include Cypress Park (Coral Springs Drive) and Coral Springs Middle School (10300 Wiles Road).
In addition, an innovative fitness park will be incorporated as an added aspect to Riverside Park located at 205 Coral Ridge Dr. It will feature a walking path including fitness machines, QR fit stations, misting stations, a fitness obstacle course, two sprint hills (estimated to be 30 ft. and 20 ft. tall), group fitness training areas, and two social spaces. The fitness
park at Riverside Park will provide an optimal space for the more than 30 regular fitness groups, high school sports teams, and individual athletes who use our facilities for training and exercise.
set aside as environmentally sensitive lands. Both Red Lichen’s 13.9 acres and Sandy Ridge Sanctuary’s 38 acres are available at scheduled times for guided tours.
Finally, the splash pad at Betti Straddling Park (10301 Wiles Rd) is nearly complete. The Splash Pad will feature interactive sprayers, a dump bucket and “funbrellas.”
Many of our sports league programs rely on these parks and complexes to practice and compete. Upgraded turf fields, upgraded lights and signage make those who love soccer, basketball, baseball, tackle and flag football, cheerleading, futsal, softball, lacrosse and swimming an even more enjoyable past time. Residents also enjoy sanctuaries
The Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital gives residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about our unique South Florida environment and its many wildlife inhabitants. Adjacent to the nature center is the Wildlife Hospital, which serves as a home to injured, sick and orphaned baby wild birds, mammals, and reptiles. These animals are given quality care, rehabilitation and then released back into the wild. Those interested in learning more about the city’s year-round sports leagues and program offerings will find more information at CoralSprings.gov/parks.
The Parks and Recreation Department has a variety of amenities and activities whether it’s for humans or their furry loved ones. The City has two splash pads, 14 playgrounds, multi-purpose athletic fields, tennis courts, three newly developed pickleball courts, a membership based Dog Park, and more. Recreation staff offer programs ranging in age from toddler to seniors. Arts and crafts, one day themed events, and both youth and adult athletic leagues (soccer, flag football, boys/girls basketball, volleyball and pickleball). We also have a Special Events team which bring Movies to the Park, Farmers Market, Concerts in the Park, and
our major annual events; Butterfly Festival and Fall Harvest Festival.
Sabal Pines Park is one of the largest parks in Coconut Creek, with a wide variety of great amenities. Featuring nine athletic fields, playgrounds for children, a jogging path around the perimeter of the park. Clean restrooms and a cozy picnic areas, there is just so much to do here. In addition, the park overlooks beautiful lakefront vistas and nature preserves in the wetlands.
Beginning with the famous “Land Rush Sale” in 1965, when future citizens purchased 1,100 lots, residential value has stood as the hallmark of Coral Springs. By 1968, homes were being constructed at the rate of approximately one per day.
Today, this reputation for desirable housing remains strong. In Coral Springs, the median sale price is $595,000.
Because Coral Springs grew as a planned community with high developers’ standards, these homes should hold their market value for generations. Residents also take part in maintaining the beautification of our neighborhoods. They agree to codes and courtesies designed to reflect the professional nature of our neighborhoods.
No wonder realtors publicly proclaim Coral Springs as “one of the hottest, strongest markets in Broward County.”
Coconut Creek, the “Butterfly Capital of the World”, is a wellplanned city with a unique environmental consciousness nestled between Miami and Palm Beach. Spotlighted as one of the “Best Cities to Live in America” by Money Magazine, and a Top Ten Place to Live in Florida by Movoto and NerdWallet, Coconut Creek is home to 61,000 residents and supports a diverse, growing business community. In Coconut Creek, the median sale price is $545,000.
Coconut Creek’s Mainstreet Project, home to the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and the Coconut Creek Promenade, a 23-acre, open-air, upscale shopping and restaurant center, has received the “Award of Excellence” for its Design Standards by the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (FAPA). When complete, the City’s MainStreet area will be bustling with over 250 acres of LEED-certified businesses, upscale housing, and beautifully landscaped parks and greenways.
