Teressa Abraham '02

Biochemistry, Science and Technology Innovation Director, Click Diagnostics Dr. Teresa Abraham is currently the Director of Scientific and Technical Partnerships at Click Diagnostics, which aims to develop a device platform to redefine the way we test an d treat illness. She connected innovators with the resources they need to advance research and bring ideas to market at Strategic Marketing Innovations (SIM). She served as a Science and Technology Policy Fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), where she worked in the Division of International Health Security at HHS. At HHS, she led several multilateral and bilateral engagements with the G7+ Mexico that promoted global health security. In her prior role at Gryphon Scientific, Dr. Abraham was the science communications lead and technical expert for the National Institute of Health's Influenza Research and Surveillance programs. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Biology from the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Geralyn Barone

Local Government Administration City Manager, City of Minnetonka In 2012, Geralyn was promoted to Minnetonka’s city manager. She serves on the boards of the MN City/County Managers Association and Municipal Legislative Commission.

She’s past president of the assistant managers’ group.Geralyn also serves as finance council chair of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Minnetonka.Before being appointed city manager, Barone served as Minnetonka’s assistant city manager/director of administrative services starting in 1994. In that role, Barone oversaw human resources and labor relations, information technology, communications, the city clerk’s office and risk management. She participated in citywide budgeting and capital planning, was responsible for the city’s performance management program, and served as staff liaison to the park board.Barone has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in public affairs from the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota.

Michael Barone

Local Government & Medical Research City Administrator, Minnetrista Michael Barone was appointed as interim City Administrator in May 2014 and became City Administrator in January 2015 for the City of Minnetrista. Befor e becoming City Administrator, Barone was hired as the Minnetrista Assistant City Administrator in October 2009. Barone has a nontraditional background for his public sector career. He has a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota and worked 7 years in medical research before going back to school to obtain my MA in Public Administration from Hamline University, and making a career switch. He spent 17 years at the City of Eden Prairie, 10 years in HR and 7 years as the Assistant to the City Manager.

Chris Bergstrom '09 Human Resources & Higher Education Talent Acquisition & College Program Coordinator Chris is a 2009 graduate of St. John’s University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, Chris made his way into the private sector where he spent seven years in the retail industry, managing stores in the field and running a wide variety of departments including Sales, Logistics, Assets Protection, Food Service, Grocery, and Human Resources. Chris now works as a Senior Recruiting Assistant for Securian Financial Group in downtown St. Paul, MN where his focus is mainly in college recruiting. In his time at SJU, Chris was actively involved in Football, Track & Field, and Music.

Amy Canfield '07

Public Health Policy Health Division Program Examiner, White House Executive Office of the President Amy works in the Executive Office of the President, where she serves as a Program Exam iner in the Health Division of the Office of Management and Budget. Her primary focus in on budget and policy issues related to the provision of Medicaid.Prior to working for the White House, Amy spent ten years working in various roles within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Her experience includes developing testimony for Congressional hear ings, writing rulemaking packages and legislative proposals, creating procedural guidance based on new legislative directives, and budget preparation and execution.Amy began her civil service career with the VA Saint Paul Regional Office, where she processed and made decisions on veterans' claims for benefits.

John Chromy '64

Retired Vice President Cooperating Housing Foundation International CHF International is an international development organization founded in 1952 that works in post-conflict, unstable and developing countries. Chromy has been with CHF International since 1996. He initiated programs in India, Kosovo, Palestine, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Serbia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Georgia and Lebanon; he also pioneered CHF's unique "Bottom-up Community Participation and Self Help Planning" approach to economic development, job creation, community stabilization and infrastructure reconstruction. John brings a broad experience in managing programs designed to help low-income people on the community and local government level. During his time at CHF, Chromy managed the foundation's relationship with US Congress and the Department of Defense.

Kevin Clarke '08

Urban Planner and Designer Hoisington Koegler Group Inc.

Kevin works as an urban planner and park planner for Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc. based in Minneapolis, MN. After studying economics and political science at St. John's University, Kevin went on to graduate school at the Hubert H. Humphrey School for Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota College of Design to pursue urban planning and landscape architecture. With Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc., Kevin develops comprehensive plans for cities throughout the state and region. These policy documents inform the decisions that cities make regarding land use and the environment, as well as investments in infrastructure, parks, and economic development. His work includes urban design, small area & downtown plans, park plans public engagement, and redevelopment projects for public and private clients.

Anna Cron '16

Volunteer Leader, U.S. Peace Corps Anna Cron serves as a Volunteer Leader for the U.S. Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic.

Anna graduated with a B.A in Political Science & Latin American Studies, and has worked for Youth Frontiers, Futura Language Professionals, and the Organization of American States. Anna firmly believes that the guidance she received from the McCarthy Center and political science department at CSB/SJU were and continue to be instrumental resources in pursuing her career aspirations.

Jake Patrick Collins '16 Aide, Deborah Brosnan & Associates

Jake Patrick Collins recently came onto the team at Deborah Brosnan & Associates - an international advisory firm providing environmental risk assessment to high-level governments and private sector clients.

Jake Patrick moved to Washington after graduation in 2016 to work at the White House in the Office of Vice President Joe Biden as a participant in the last White House Internship class of the Obama/Biden Administration. In Summer/Fall 2018, Jake Patrick stepped back from Washington to serve on the successful Tim Walz for MN Governor campaign. Prior to the campaign, Jake Patrick navigated the high-stakes international arena of Washington managing an international consulting firm for a retired U.S. diplomat which specialized in defense, security, and Africa and Middle East affairs.

Bridget Cummings '15

Public Policy Operations Analysis, Obama Foundation

Bridget has worked at the Obama Foundation on the Operations team since January 2017. Prior to this, she served as a Policy Advisor at the Obama White House in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Bridget studied Political Science and Economics at the College of St. Benedict and enjoyed participating in the College Democrats Club, Varsity Golf, Student Senate, and McCarthy Center events.

Jack Cummings '18

Commercial Real Estate Broker, Cushman and Wakefield

Jack accepted a job at Cushman and Wakefield. Cushman and Wakef ield is a publicly traded international commercial real estate firm. Jack is a commercial real estate broker. He focus primarily on office properties in the Twin Cities market. Jack specialize sin buy/sell of commercial office buildings, client representation, and development.

He currently works in both our Edina and Minneapolis offices.

Prior to working at Cushman and Wakefield, Jack had an internship at The Excelsior Group. The Excelsior Group is a Minneapolis based commercial development firm.

Clement Dai '12

Head of Strategic Finance; Special Assistant, New Frontier Bio; JFK Library Foundation Clement Dai is strategy and investment officer at New Frontier Bio. In this role, he evaluates investment opportunities and business development strategies of early-stage healthcare and biotech ventures. NFB invests in and builds innovative biotech and healthcare companies with scientists and entrepreneurs. Prior to New Frontier Bio, he helped IBM set up a new business unit- commercializing machine-learning-based applications to mitigate air pollution and climate change for governments around the world. In addition, Clement spent time in market entry, product development, and policy research in healthcare and renewable energy sectors. Outside of private sector, he spends time in civic engagement and foreign policy programs and research with John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, Kissinger Institute on U.S.-China Relations at the Woodrow Wilson Center in D.C., as well as United Nations Development Programme in Beijing.

Clement finished his MBA from Harvard Business School where he served as CoPresident of Greater China Club, and led HBS team to co-organize Harvard China Forum with Harvard College team as Advisor and Liaison. He holds BA, Magna Cum Laude, and Phi Beta Kappa from St. John’s University MN.

Jona Van Deun '92

Vice President of Small Business Engagement, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Jona Van Deun interned at the White House while a student at CSB. After graduation in 1992, she returned to the White House as a member of the scheduling staff for President George H.W. Bush. In 2000-02, she served as director of scheduling and advance for Second Lady of the U.S. Lynne Cheney. From 2012-2017, Van Deun was the director of coalitions at Koch Companies Public Sector in Washington, D.C. She is currently the Vice President of Small Business Engagement for the US Chamber of Commerce starting in early October.

Melissa DeOrio '14

Political & Financial Risk Management Research Associate, Exiger Diligence

Melissa DeOrio works as the Turkey case manager at Exiger Diligence, in Washington, D.C. She conducts due diligence investigations on companies and individuals in Turkish and English in order to identify political, financial, legal and repetition risks for clients. Diligence Investigations seek to prevent financial crime and corrupt business practices by helping corporations comply with ]the law across multiple jurisdictions.

Joyce Overman Dube '79

Senior Principal Health Systems Engineer, Mayo Clinic

Joyce currently leads the Commitment to Safety Program at Mayo Clinic across all campuses (Rochester, MN, Jacksonville, FL, Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ, Mayo Clinic Health System in MN, IA, WI). She brings extensive experience leading a large surgical/ procedural nursing division with multiple projects and priorities; an ability to work with diverse multidisciplinary teams and individuals to bring complex problems to resolution; experience as the leader of projects for noise control in the hospital, service excellence and RN bedside hand off across Mayo Clinic campuses; and leadership for the promotion of scholarly activities and health promotion. Joyce has presented and published on a variety of topics locally, nationally and internationally.Prior to her current role, she served as a staff nurse, nurse manager and nurse administrator. Joyce is a Mayo Clinic Silver Quality Fellow and an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine..

John Dube '14

Medical Student, Des Miones University John is a graduate of St. John's University with a double major in Biology and Political Science. Following college, John volunteered in Rome, Italy with the Benedictine Volunteer Corps.

Arriving home, John worked for three years as a research assistant in a pancreatic cancer lab at Mayo Clinic. Currently, John is a second year medical student at Des Moines University where he is involved in the student government association, as well as other clubs, on campus.

Gary Eichten '69 Retired (radio news host)

MPR News Editor-at-Large and retired program host Gary Eichten held several positions during his 40-plus-year career at Minnesota Public Radio, including news director, special events producer and station manager. He served as anchor for Minnesota Public Radio's live, special events news coverage and anchored all of the major news programs on Minnesota Public Radio, including Midday, which he hosted for more than 20 years.

A graduate of St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, Eichten began his career in 1967 in Collegeville as one of Minnesota Public Radio’s earliest employees. In 2007, Eichten was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Among the honors he has received is the Corporation for Public Broadcasting award for best local news program; the 2011 Graven Award from the Premack Public Affairs Journalism Awards Board for his contribution to excellence in journalism and the 2019 Public Leadership Award from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School.

Timothy Enright '99

Political Military Officer, U.S. Embassy Abuja, U.S. Department of State Since graduating from St. John's in 1999, Timothy Enright has worked extensive ly in the foreign affairs field. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan and since joining the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer in 2005 has served in Iraq, Russia, Washington D.C., Dubai and Afghanistan. Tim is now serving as the Political Military Officer for the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, where he is responsible for coordinating U.S. security cooperation and assistance to the Nigerian armed forces in their effort to combat Boko Haram. He previously worked on European and NATO policy at the Pentagon and for the consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton.

Public Policy & Communications Principal, Aurora Strategic Advisors Aurora is a big picture of public affairs, government relations and communications firm.

Positions prior to joining Aurora include: Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs and Vice President of Government Affairs at SUPERVALU (20072013) where he also chaired their federal political action committee and helped lead corp orate social responsibility; Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Martin Sabo (19932006); Member of the Bi-Partisan Policy Center's National Transportation Project (2008-2011); State Chair of Minnesota's Democratic Party (19992005). Mike ran for Congress (2006) finishing second in a multicandidate primary and was elected to the Advisory Neighborhood Commission in Washington, D.C. (1991-94). He has appeared on national television and radio shows including NBC's Today Show, Hardball, ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos, CNN, C-SPAN, and NPR. He graduated from St. John's University and Harvard's Kennedy School's Program for Senior Managers in Government.

Jessica Filiaggi '04

Chief Compliance Officer, USAdvisors Wealth Management Jessica has spent her professional career in the securities and insurance compliance industry. Not such a far cry from her political science degree given how much time she spends reviewing proposed and completed legislation and rule making from the Securities and Exchange Commission and State Securities departments. By day, she supervises a group of financial planners. By night, she chairs a local DFL operating unit covering three counties, serves on the DFL State Central Committee, volunteers on campaigns, and even ran for office once herself.

She was a 2016 delegate to the DNC. Jessica holds licensing with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority; Series 7, 24, 53, 66, and 99 along with her Minnesota Insurance Producers license and NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer designation.

Christian Franzen '03

Political Consulting Government Relations Specialist, Franzen Moore Prior to joining Franzen Moore Government Relations, Christian served as a Research Consultant for the Scottish Churches Parliament ary Office in Edinburgh, Scotland. In that position, Christian was responsible for monitoring Parliamentary Committee meetings, reporting to members and preparing briefing papers on issues including race equality, bankruptcy reform and correctional facility populations. He served his internship with former Minnesota Speaker of the House, Steve Sviggum, and now focuses his legislative energies on Health Care Policy, Finance and Reform.

Colin Frederick '11

Finance & Technology, Latin America, Caribbean Project Manager, Inter-America Development Bank Colin Frederick works as a project manager at the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), which finances development projects and technical support to reduce poverty, advance infrastructure and improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean.Prior to returning to the IDB, Colin was a cons ultant at the World Bank Group (WBG), where he developed and implemented change management strategies and communication campaigns to facilitate the global launch of a cloud based technology platform across the WBG. During his first term at the IDB, Colin worked as a senior consultant where he oversaw the project management and performance analysis of a digital transformation program geared to improve efficiencies, facilitate innovation, foster collaboration and share knowledge throughout the IDB’s operational initiatives.

Barry Griffin '09 Attorney-at-Law, Cotsfield

Barry N. Griffin an experienced entrepreneur turned Attorney with a specialization in corporate and commercial law. Trained in law in London as a Barrister, Barry now resides in The Bahamas where he is an attorney and business advisor at a boutique commercial law firm and business consultancy.

Barry is also a progressive political activist in The Bahamas. He is a ranking member of one of The Bahamas' major political parties, having served as National Chair of its youth arm and now serving as a member of the Leadership Council, the Party's national executive authority.

Sarah Haas '17

Communications and Information Technology Official Development Associate, OneVillage Partners Sara Haas is a recent graduate living and working in Minneapolis for a non-profit that provides community-led development in Sierra Leone, called OneVillage Partners. She coordinates, schedule, and manage fundraising and cultivation events. She designs, prints, and shares communication pieces on social media platforms. Sara also independently manages all of the office functions, analytics, databases, and IT systems while also maintaining and sustaining relationships with volunteers, the Board of Directors, and donors. Sara appreciated the support from alumni, professors, and students and wants to continue to provide that support for others.

Amy Halloran

Author and Activist, Unity House of Troy, NY Amy Halloran is the author of The New Bread Basket: How the New Crop of Grain Growers, Plant Breeders, Millers, Maltsters, Bakers, Brewers, and Local Food Activists Are Redefining Our Daily Loaf.

She ran the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market in its infancy, and now runs a soup kitchen and food pantry at Unity House. Through writing and teaching, she works to support farmers, eaters, and change in food and agriculture.

Nick Hansen '10

Communication Specialist, Hennepin County Bar Association

Nick Hansen is currently a Communications Specialist at the Hennepin County Bar Association and previously worked as a Sports Reporter at Marshall Independent, Editor ial Assistant at the Boston Herald, and the Head of Writing Development and Senior Editor at the Next Impuse Media Group. Nick is a 2010 grad who has worked in the fields of environmental recreation, journalism, and now in nonprofit communications.

He is passionate about civic engagement, journalism, sustainability, and justice. More often than not, Nick probably has a newspaper tucked under his arm.

Legislative Correspondent, House of Representatives

Ben Hutterer is currently a Legislative Assistant for Representative Ron Kind, where he works primarily on veterans, education, judiciary, immigration, defense, and foreign affairs issues. Previously, he worked in the Senate as a Legislative Correspondent for Senator Baldwin working on veterans, defense, foreign affairs, and homeland security issues. He also worked as a Staff Assistant for Senator Klobuchar and graduated from CSB/SJU with a major in Political Science and minor in Economics in 2015.

Mark is a Former Senate Staffer for energy and environmental. He previously was the former CEO of public policy management consultancy, Dutko Worldwide. Mark also served as President of integrated public affairs and marketing communications agency, Levick. Currently, Mark is the Head of Strategic Communications at Hogan Lovells US LLP.

Emily Johnson '14

Assistant Account Executive, The Harrington Company

Emily Johnson is a highly motivated college graduate, passionate about equal opportunity and social justice. She is interested in the nonprofit and government sector, focusing on programs or policies that provide equitable access to resources and opportunity. She currently works as an Assistant Account Executive at The Harrington Company where she manages nonprofit professional associations. Emily was a Jackson Fellow at CSB/SJU and interned at a residential mental health clinic and youth day program in Duluth. Emily did AmeriCorps for two years after college with College Possible working with high schoolers on college access.

Ryan Kelley '01

Urban Planning Senior Planner, Metropolitan Council

Ryan Kelley believes that development with thoughtful design creates places people love.

He encourages innovation and expanding possibilities. Ryan is currently a senior planner at the Metropolitan Council where he oversees the Livable Communities TransitOriented Development, Demonstration, and affordable housing grant programs. He was previously a planner for the City of St. Louis Park where he worked on development review, bike and pedestrian planning, Southwest LRT station area planning and managed the development of a form-based code for these station areas. Ryan was also a land use planner for the Active Living Hennepin County program. Ryan studied Landscape Architecture and received his Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs with concentrations in Environmental Planning and Urban Design in 2012. He received his B.A. in Philosophy from St. John’s University in 2001.

Sean Kershaw

Vice President, Wilder Foundation Sean Kershaw currently serves as the Vice President of Wilder Center of Communities w here he oversees leadership development, public policy, and the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood. In 2003, Sean became just the sixth Citizens League Executive Director in its 60year history. Sean has been a member of the Citizens League's 50th Anniversary report on Doing the Common Good Better prior to becoming the Executive Director.

Kershaw left his position as a Deputy Director for the City of Saint Paul's Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED), where he had worked for 11 years.

Prior to that, he was planning coordinator for the Public Housing Authority in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. Kershaw is passionate about active citizenship, civic or ganizing, and good public policy. He is a founding member of the Active Citizens School, a young adult civic leadership program, and is currently part of the Minnesota Active Citizenship Initiative. Kershaw is on the Board for the Twin Cities United Way.

Kylie has worked at Sanford Health for the past 8 years. Her positions have included work with numerous initiatives including Sanford World Clinic, Oncology, Research, Innovations, and Commercialization. Her work is focused o n maintaining and promoting Sanford’s international brand.

Lindsey Krause '11

Associate Attorney, Nichols Kaster, PLLP

Lindsey Krause earned her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in May 2016. She is currently an Associate at Nichols Kaster, PLLP where she primarily represents employees in discrimination and whistleblower cases. Prior to joining Nichols Kaster, Krause was a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Frank J. Kundrat in Stearns County. While a law student she served as the President of the Women's Law Student Association and as the Lead Student Articles Editor on the Journal of Law and Inequality. Krause's article on juvenile criminal sentencing reform was published in Volume 33 of the journal. During her time at CSB/SJU, Krause was heavily involved in political campaigns and served as an intern in Amy Klobuchar's Washington D.C. office though the school's DC Program. Her interests include craft beer, weightlifting, traveling , and collecting political campaign buttons.

Chase Kroll '09

John Lindstrom '63 Retired Judge and Mediator

Judge Lindstrom was most recently a Minnesota District Court Judge for the Eighth Judi cial District from July 1976 to August 2005. From January 1973 to June 1976 he was a Minnesota State Representative and prior to that, engaged in private practice of law for over nine years. He was the President of the Minnesota District Court Judges Association as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the organization. He is also a member of both the Minnesota and American Bar Associations and the National State Trial Judges Association. He has received numerous honors throughout his career, Lindstrom was a Fellow of the American Bar Association and received a Saint John's University Presidential Citation. Since 2005, Judge Lindstrom has been a mediator with Gilbert Mediation Center. He is a 1963 graduate of Saint John's University.

Joe Mahowald '17

International Commercial Real Estate Valuation Analyst, Newmark Knight Frank Joe is a valuation analyst for Newmark Knight Frank, an international commercial real estate firm. Based in Minneapolis, he works on commercial properties across the upper Midwest. Previously, he worked for Minnesota Brownfields, an environmental redevelop ment nonprofit. Joe graduated from Saint John's University in 2017 with a degree in Political Science. Scott McMahon '01 Senior Lobbyist, Flaherty & Hood

Scott McMahon is a senior lobbyist with Flaherty & Hood, P.A. In this capacity, he represents a variety of clients to advance their public policy agendas at the Minnesota State Capitol and with state agencies. His public policy focus areas include economic development, workforce development, human services, and capital investment. He represents a broad base of clients, including both the public and private sectors. The majority of his work is in partnership with the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, a coalition of almost 100 cities, and its sister organization the Greater Minnesota Partnership, which brings together cities, businesses, and community stakeholders across Greater Minnesota to advocate for programs and policies that enhance the region’s economic well-being.

Prior to joining Flaherty & Hood in 2018, Scott worked extensively across the state of Minnesota advancing policy ideas and agendas on a variety of key issues. For the past decade he has worked on workforce and economic development issues, first as the director of government and community affairs with the Minnesota Private College Council, then as a consultant forging partnerships between four-year universities, two-year community colleges and communities to better align education programs with workforce needs. Before that, Scott worked as the research director at the National Institute for Health Policy on policies affecting health care and long-term care delivery, access and affordability.

Lindsey Minto '13 Health System Specialist, Department of Veterans Affairs Lindsey Minto currently works for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Health System Specialist for Care and Payment Innovation. Before coming to the VA, Mrs. Minto worked for five years as a Global Product Manager, Surgical Intelligence for NuVasive, a spinal technologies company.

Prior to the role at NuVasive, Lindsey worked for Medtronic Clinical Operations on the Core Valve investigational device clinical trials in the US, ANZ and Japan. Prior to that, he worked in the Minnesota State Senate for 22 years, and the last 13 years as a DFL Chief of staff. Meghan Mullon '18

Staff Assistant, House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce Meghan is originally from Rochester, MN, and is a legacy kid - both of her parents were in the CSBSJU Class of '86. While at CSBSJU, Meghan was heavily involved in the McCarthy Center as one of the Student Coordinators. She also participated in Climate Action Club, College Democrats, and the DC Summer Study Program.

After graduation, Meghan moved to DC to work as then-Congressman Tim Walz's Staff Assistant. After seeing him into the governorship and doing transition work for a freshman Member, Meghan took a position with the Committee on Energy and Commerce, the House's oldest and largest standing Committee. She now works as to support the Committee's policy teams on issues ranging from climate change to the nation's healthcare.

Dr. Patrick Plonski currently serves as Director of Books for Africa, the world's largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent. Since 1988, the organization has distributed over 29 million books to African children in 49 African countries. Dr. Plonski has 23 years of experience in university administration, and international nonprofit management and literacy advancement, and holds a PhD in international education. John Schaus is a fellow in the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, where he focuses on security challenges in Asia. In addition, he presents CSIS’s flagship presentation on future trends, “Seven Revolutions: Scanning the Horizon Out to the Year 2035 and Beyond.” Prior to rejoining CSIS in July 2014, he worked on Asia issues within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His roles there included serving on the China desk and as a regional policy adviser to the assistant secretary for APSA, in particular regarding the rebalance to the Asia Pacific. Prior to working in the Pentagon, Mr. Schaus served as executive officer to the president and CEO of CSIS for five years. Advocacy and Development Coordinator, Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County, Illinois Katie is the Advocacy and Development Coordinator at the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County. In this role, Katie convenes a wide variety of stakeholders to advocate for local and statewide budget and legislative priorities that advance the goal of ending and preventing homelessness in suburban Cook County. She is responsible for crafting and implementing the Alliance’s resource development plan and coordinates an annual census of individuals experiencing homelessness. After receiving her B.A. in Environmental Studies and Political Science from CSB SJU, Katie served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member and led a regional initiative to increase access to healthy, locally grown food. She has worked and volunteered in a variety of roles advocating for sustainable farming and health equity. Ann Steingraeber practices in Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A.’s real estate group, where she focuses on land use law, the purchase and sale of real property, title and survey review, and leasing matters. Ann has experience representing both for-profit and non-profit clients in a variety of real estate transactions, including compliance with federal tax credit programs. Ann also practices in affordable housing development law, and prior to joining the firm, she was an attorney at the Housing Justice Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and expanding the supply of affordable housing in Minnesota.Ann graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School. Drew is a doctoral student in political science at Yale University, specializing in comparative politics in general and the intersection of elections and violence in particular. Prior to Yale, Drew received his master’s degree in international relations from the University of Chicago and worked briefly in the private sector as a market research analyst. Additionally, he provided research support at two Washington, D.C.based think tanks, studied abroad in India as a CSB/SJU student, and worked as a student coordinator at the McCarthy Center.

Zack Thelen-Liebl '10

Battalion Training Officer, Minnesota Army National Guard Zack obtained his BA in Political Science in 2010 from SJU and earned his Masters in Public Administration in 2018 from American University. Zack enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard at age 17. After graduating from SJU he received his commission as an Army Engineer Officer.

After working part-time national guard and full-time non-profit for 8 years, he accepted a position full-time with the National Guard. He is currently serving as the Battalion Training Officer and serves as a Company Commander of a Combat Engineer Unit. He and his spouse currently reside in Stillwater, MN.

Recreation Area Supervisor, Three Rivers Park Districts

Tyler works for Three Rivers Park District helping manage more than 25,000 acres of park reserves and regional parks and more than 100 miles of regional trails in suburban Hennepin County. Tyler supervises more than 30 seasonal and parttime staff performing a variety of visitor services jobs in developed recreation areas. Tyler collaborates with natural resource managers, park planners, law enforcement, accountant s, and human resource personnel on a weekly basis. Previously Tyler worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Denver, Colorado conducting socioeconomic research a nd analysis. Tyler's interests include recreation economics, government administration, public land management, and land use planning.

Director of Latino Outreach, Amy for America Edwin Torres '16 is an advocate, campaigner, and community leader. Origin ally born in El Salvador, Edwin immigrated to California at a young age and ultimately moved to Minnesota to attend CSB/SJU. Edwin has been awarded and recognized by national organizations and elected officials for his work advancing the rights of others and for his commitment to community betterment. His story has been featured at various publications from the local level to the New York Times. Currently, Edwin serves as the National Director of Latino Outreach for U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar’s Presidential Campaign, Amy for America. Before joining Amy for America, Edwin has worked in the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and for several elections, including most recently for U.S. Senator Tina Smith in 2018.

Mike is currently the Senior Program Officer at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. He is a public affairs leader with a track record of managing risk and improving an organization's ability to operate in complex and regulated environments.

He manages issues at local, state, federal, and international levels and solve multidimensional problems that at first glance appear intractable.
