Helpful Definitions
1. Best Ball – For each hole, the lowest score of the partners, or the lowest score of the foursome, is counted toward the team’s total score.
2. Match Play – The competition is played by holes. A hole is won by the side that holes its ball in with fewer strokes.
3. Medal/Stroke Play – Competitor(s) with the lowest number of total strokes wins.
4. Ringer’s Score – The best score a player has shot on each hole throughout the season. The total reflects a player’s possible ideal round.
5. Scramble – Every team member tees off on each hole and selects the best drive. Each team member plays a second shot from where the selected drive lays and the best second shot is selected. This process is repeated until the hole is complete.
Golf Etiquette Do’s and Don’ts
1. Do be on time and ready to tee it up. Arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your tee time will help.
2. Do help playing partners by watching their ball finishes.
3. Don't wait with your playing partners while they hit. If you are not in their line of flight, proceed to your ball.
4. Do leave the green immediately. Enter scores when you get to the next tee.
5. Determine among your playing partners if you wish to play ready golf and proceed on that basis if you all agree.
6. Do keep up with the group in front of you, especially if there is an open hole ahead of your group.
7. Do replace your divots.
8. Do repair your ball marks on the green.
9. Do rake all sand traps. When you are through, put the rake with the tongs facing into the sand and the handle lying in the grass.
10.Do enjoy yourself but socialize in the clubhouse.
World Handicap System and Score Posting
Players must post their scores unless playing alone or hitting extra balls for practice. The World Handicap System requires scores to be posted the same day as play. Each player’s maximum score on a hole is easily calculated by taking par plus 2 plus the number of strokes the player gets on that hole. This equates to a net double-bogey on each hole. On League Day, our scores will be posted by the Golf Shop through the Golf Genius program. Record the actual scores made, and Golf Genius will automatically post our adjusted scores.
Standing Rules
1. Sign-up emails for League Day will be sent each Saturday. Pairings are sent out on Wednesday. Call the Pro Shop at 708-403-3010 for last minute entries who will be added to the first available threesome on a first come/first serve basis.
2. In the event you must cancel, please give your group the courtesy of a call to the Pro Shop at 708-403-3010. If cancelling the morning of the event and your call goes to voicemail, leave a message. If possible, a text message to at least one of the members in your foursome would be appreciated.
3. Please be ready to play 15 minutes prior to tee time. In the event of arrival after the members of your group have teed off, wait for the next twosome or threesome. Times are on the scorecards to help maintain the pace of play. The time listed is when your be finished
with the hole. Repeated lateness or slow play will be handled by the Board.
4. Keep one scorecards and enter hole-by-hole scores in Golf Genius. Verify the scores entered, sign, date, and attest each scorecards.
5. If lightning is seen, seek shelter. Leave the course when possible. In case of rain or inclement weather, the Chairman or Vice-Chairman may cancel, delay, or discontinue play within one hour. Local rules may be applied at the discretion of the Pro Shop, Groundskeeper, and/or Rules Chairman.
6. The most current handicap, a maximum of 40, will be used for all events. Handicaps will be frozen for the Championship.
League Local Rules
Play the ball as it lies. In events, putts must be holed out and all holes completed. However, a player is allowed to pick up her ball on any hole and stay in the weekly event as long as when she reaches her WHS maximum (par plus 2 plus your strokes) she adds 2 additional strokes.
Hole 1 Drop Option: After hitting two balls into the water, any player may drop a ball on the other side of the water. The drop area is in the rough on the right side of the course to the left of the stand of trees near the cart path. The drop requires a penalty of one stroke in addition to the two water penalties. This option may not apply in major tournaments.
Course Local Rules
The CT local rules are printed on the back of the scorecards. NOTE: you do not need to find your ball when it goes into a hazard. Don’t get poison ivy! What is important is to best determine the point at which the ball entered the hazard, crossing the red line. If it’s there or the line from stake to stake. Once that is determined, you can evaluate your options. The local rule on several holes states that if there is a not a two-club length distance to drop on the right of the cart path (example on #7), you can drop the ball on the left side of the path within 2 club lengths, obviously with a penalty stroke.
On Hole #1, if your ball has entered the woods on the side of the water, you may play the ball as if it is in a hazard instead of the actual rule of being a lost ball. Estimate where a hazard line would be and drop (with a penalty stroke) within 2 club lengths no closer to the hole.
Season Long Point System
• The winners of each event are detailed on the Golf Genius App under Member Portal / Results/ Tournament Results and select the date. Records are kept for the entire season.
• A total of 10 points will be divided among the winner in each flight for weekly events:
• 5 points to first place
• 3 points to second place
• 2 points to third place
• Ties will be combined and divided
• 30 points to participants in the Championship, and 10-15 points for special tournaments such as Chairman’s and Fruits of Labor.
Attendance – 1 point
•
Season Awards
• Low Net, Low Gross, Low Ringer
• Most improved golfer, Most Points, Most Birdies
• WWGA Low Net
*Only players with a minimum of 6 league scores will qualify for any of these Season Awards.
Tournaments
1. Chairman’s Trophy Tournament – A match play event that is played with a partner. Each round is played with your partner against another partnership. The first round eliminates half of the teams, and the same occurs each subsequent round until one pair remains. This winning pair also gets their names added to the Chairman’s Plaque. Matches played on the league day earn a participation point, but they do not qualify for the day’s event.
2. Championship will be played in early August for three consecutive days (T-W-Th) for Championship and A flights. All other flights will play for two days (W-Th). A rain date will be scheduled the next week, Thursday if possible. An established Crystal Tree twenty-score handicap is required, with a minimum of 6 rounds played at CT in the current calendar year. Any regular member, or spouse of a regular member, may participate. All players participating will receive 30 points. The maximum handicap for net competition is 40. Two prizes will be awarded in each 5 flights. Non-league members will be charged
a $30 fee to cover prizes. The 5 flights will be determined by handicaps the Friday before the championship. The Tuesday handicaps will be used for net competition. Once the flights have been established on Saturday, players may only elect to move up from their flight to Championship or A flight. The gross winners of each flight have their names engraved on the Championship Plaque.
