The very essence of turn-of-the-century bohemian Europe, this unique world within a world evokes images of a bygone era and is the perfect setting to enjoy a magical evening of entertainment. Complete your experience in the Mirror Palace by sharing a delicious meal and refreshments with family and friends seated in a cozy mahogany booth under a beautiful velvet ceiling before the evening’s entertainment. Pre-show dinners are available on selected nights and must be reserved in advance.

EXPERIENCE THE ONLY SPIEGELTENT IN COLORADO!

ABOUT THE MT. CRESTED BUTTE MIRROR PALACE

Delightful, nostalgic and elegant, spiegeltents are meticulously handcrafted structures originally used as traveling dance halls at the turn of the twentieth century in Europe. Flemish for “tent with mirrors,” spiegeltents feature luxurious amenities such as stained glass windows, velvet ceilings, and cozy booths around the perimeter of the inside for elevated seating. In its past iterations as a haven for local nightlife, the numerous mirrors were used to facilitate discreet eye contact between visitors. 3

There are only a limited number of these tents left in the world, each with its own distinct history. Coming to Crested Butte this summer is The Salon Victoria, originally built in the 1930s by the Klessens family and called the ‘Nova Danssalon.’ The Klessens family has a long tradition with spiegeltents, dating back four generations. The tent was severely damaged in the early 1990s, so the family decided to rebuild it into the “biggest and most beautiful of the world”. They renamed it Victoria in

honor of their victory over the hardship. This spiegeltent then traveled all over the world and spent ten years in South Africa. After a complete maintenance and restoration, the Victoria will be coming to America for the first time as CBMF’s Mt. Crested Butte Mirror Palace. Today, these extraordinarily elegant venues seamlessly combine old world charm and nostalgia with the modern demand for unique, one-of-a-kind experiences.

R

All TIME SPANS programs were curated by TIME SPANS Artistic Director Thomas Fichter.

Earle Brown was a major force in contemporary music and a leading composer of the American avant-garde since the 1950’s. His influence on the avant-garde community was philosophical as well as tangible and practical. His conducting techniques and experiments with “time notation,” improvisation, and open-form compositional structure have become part of contemporary compositional usage. Earle Brown generously fostered new works by his fellow composers both as Director of the Fromm Weeks of New Music in Aspen (1985-1990) as well as the producer of his legendary recording project, the Contemporary Sound Series (1960-1973). Open minded and always interested in a broad range of aesthetic expressions, Brown looked for important trends in contemporary music.
